Lethality in RPG's, which one do you prefer?

Basically, Time to Kill/Time to die on average. On Tabletop games, GURPS has the highest lethality IMO. A .338 lapua magnum rifle has enough damage to kill the average player a couple of times and has a range consistent to IRL ie - extremely far alway. D&D 4e is probably the lowest lethality...

What RPG(s) do you really like but are too ashamed to admit on the Codex?

I for one really like this obscure gem which came back in 1996 I believe.
  3. Recommend me a fantasy RPG like this please?

I'm looking for an RPG that's open world, or partially open-world like the old blobber games, where you go on adventures and have fun quests to complete, and quality writing like in old RPGs (Infinity Engine, Krondor, Might and Magic etc.), at least dialogue-wise - I don't mind what the plot is...

The Dark Sun for NWN Project

NWN Dark Sun Our goal for this project is to recreate the world of Athas ( Dark Sun ) using NWN (Neverwinter Nights). You can get the complete NWN game on the Beamdog Store or on Steam. Dark Sun is an original Dungeon & Dragons campaign setting set in the fictional, post-apocalyptic desert...

What features should it include? What setting? etc. Do tell.

No game brought more decline than WoW. Change my mind!!

Some people blame consoles, and is undeniable that consoles brought decline to SP RPG's, however, WoW brought decline to RPG'S IN GENERAL. Tabletop, SP and MP. Thanks to wow, people see RPG's as gear farming, cooldown managing games. What WoW brought to the RPG market? Normalization of...

Solo dev interested in your your opinion about a turn-based isometric RPG inspired by Fallout 1/2

Hi guys, Long story short: I'm a solo dev who's developed a heavily Fallout-inspired branching narrative isometric CRPG with turn-based combat over 15 years ago. A lot of the choices back then were based on my personal preferences (never liked fantasy and cannot stand real-time combat) and...

What should a game expose to attract gamers?

I am developing a Steam game called Golden Fall 2. It's an RPG game, with a rogue like battle mechanics. I am adding more and more content, I am thinking of having 20 levels. The question is... what should I expose in the trailer and screenshots. The best parts are also the parts you want to...
  12. Shorter compact games vs Longer games?

It is very well known that Gamers do not complete games. Data: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17XDvG-oJlYDHmVoDYdqqGlS1JC0MdRuuCe5uVm8GXaM/edit#gid=0 A significant majority fail to even reach the halfway mark. This indicates that there is a surplus of content that Gamers do not need...
  13. RPG's with dark atmosphere

As per title. I'm trying to build up a collection of games to play through. I define dark very loosely. I'll start: Gothic Gothic 2 Fear & Hunger Darklands
  14. Photo-realistic Graphics lead to decline in RPGs?

As technology progressed throughout the years, gamers thirst for better graphics increased by several magnitude. Naturally, game devs began to cater to these, colloquially termed, 'graphics whores' by pushing the boundaries by creating better and better games in a photo-realistic style. Rpg devs...
  15. Homebrew PnP Rpg system discussion

Has anyone here tried to create their own home-brew system? How did the attempt at creating it go? What did you dislike about conventional systems (Dnd, Ars Magica, etc.) that made you go out to make one yourself? What sort of mechanics and features did you try to innovate? Do you like having...

Incline Quests which you would like to see in RPGs?

To contrast the "Stereotypical quests", what are some quests that you would like to see included in RPGs?
  18. RPG's with pretty death animations

I very much enjoy the over the top death animations from Fallout 1,2, Tactics. I don't recall any other other rpg with such satisfying animations. Are there any other rpg's where death is welcomed in a such an eye-pleasing manner ? The next game that i could think of was Diablo 2 but it isn't...
  19. I don't know the title but i hope i find it

Its a fairly old game and I only played it a couple of times. I remember that the games's intro had a dragon of some sort. The game play for the first stage(i think) as I remember had multiple lanes and you defeat waves of monsters (like in Dota or LOL but in 3rd person) the monsters had like...

[Exanima] This game has a weird tryhard difficulty philosophy that's probably keeping it down.

No offense to the devs, but I've just read some of their posts in the past and thought of the following points. One dev actually said that the checkpoint save mechanic is already a "gross violation" of their "choices have consequences" philosophy. What, does he expect people to beat this game...

    Incline Josh Sawyer appreciation station

Say what you will about the current state of Obsidian and how poe2 turned out but this guy deserves more than a Q&A thread. He deserves an appreciation station. [Disco Elysium] Disappointing Mid-late game. [Heavy Spoilers]

It had SO MUCH going for it from beginning to mid-game. It's such a shame that mid-late game was so lack-luster. The mid game conflict (Merc Tribunal) has basically only one resolution...No peaceful path. Kim is the only one you care about. Okay, maybe Titus too if you like him, but seriously I...
  23. Evil protagonist Rpgs

What games did you think makes you feel like an evil or morally ambigous main character the best? I know the usual suspects, like NWN HOTU campaing, Tyranny, Overlord 1 and 2, and Bloodlines, but im looking at the very niche ones, or the overlooked, even those with an evil path that people dont...
  24. New player who bought several RPGs - where to start?

For some background if anyone gives a shit (if not, skip to list below), I've been a gamer throughout my life of 25 years, starting out with console and progressing towards PC gaming in the last 5 years or so. I have never played any of the "classics" growing up, but I have played a few of what...

    RPG design should be about...

When designing a role playing game, what should its lead designers focus on, and what should the money mostly go towards? Obviously you want some of all three categories, but what should get the most work behind it?
