Avowed is just a hair over two months away, and the anticipation is building for a new Obsidian RPG.

I just found out this game isn't getting a physical release. Christ, it's like they want this game to bomb.

I can very much see the anticipation building within Obsidian, occasionally bursting out through a Twitter orifice, in the form of brain matter smoothies.

Seriously, the recent bad PR for Avowed is a great testament to the maxim that a creator who cannot separate himself and his commentary from his creation belongs only at the creator school and far from real world projects. (But then how would gaming companies hire anyone these days)

The crucial difference: This game isn't titled "Pillars of Eternity". It is marketed as a first person action spinoff, not a sequel.
I can get removing SOME stuff in a spin-off. But removing literally every single interesting thing...

That said, Ultima Underworld is a "first-person action spinoff" and has MORE spells than Ultima 7, not less. You can fly in Ultima Underworld, something not possible in U7. And it is not only in class that this game has less stuff. I didn't see arbalests and crossbows in Avoided either.
This is obviously no ultima underworld. That was a groundbreaking and trendsetting 3d experience. This is the most lazy, uninspired gamepass slop possible. Even the marketing consists almost entirely of the devs tempering expectations and curbing enthusiasm.

It is really curious how obsessed the mods are about keeping this thread pristine. You got Obshittian devs reporting it on a speed dial or what?

I guess you got to make the most out of it, Abored will be Obshittian's final game after all. Keep fighting the good fight for a company that hates your guts.

It takes a real talent to make a game that doesn't have a single exciting aspect to it

It is almost like they've never looked at a game and thought, "wow that looks really fun to play, I can't wait to try it out!".

Modern Obshittian is truly just "working a job" so they can go buy expensive bikes and simp onlyfans trannies.

A lot of the animations are looking pretty rough in the preview material, not encouraging. Who has the bears doing jazz hands on a critical attack? Looks like shit.
For small games I understand, but I wonder nowadays why AAA titles skimp on character animations with all the modern tech and fairly easy implementation.

In case why writing is so garbage it's clear - because of politicization of games.

But animations? It's the extense of graphics for which usually the huge amount of cash flows in these productions. Instead we have some janky movements that feel like 200 kg American moving animation implemented with a slim body.

Of couse I'm talking about Western games, because Asians are - as usual - the opposite and hire good motion actors/actresses.

According to polls, the most popular classes in Pillows 2 are respectively Cipher, Rogue and Paladin ( https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/99392-favorite-class/ ). Yet modern Obsidian decided to NOT include any of this 3 classes. Ranger is literally the second least popular class according to poll and is in Avoided. Without its iconic animal companion. Fighter also has not a single interesting ability. Wizard has freezing pillar and that is it. And probably implemented in a shitty way.

It would be (mildly) interesting to see how this data has evolved over time. This poll was done right after the game launched, when everyone was playing a multi-class Soul Blade/Assassin. Weird to see Barbarian was apparently less popular than the snoozefest that is Chanter.

I'll tell you why this happens

It's because nobody in modern game dev fights for anything. Yeah we know these people treat making games as a 9-5 day job, but it's worse than that. Nobody actually cares enough to push against the overbearing levels of laziness and pessimism that permeates all western based companies. Nobody believes in the craft or the medium.

Much of this comes from the brutally effective rick and morty esque "we're all gonna die anyway and nothing matterns" Jewish demoralisation propaganda, but a lot is due to lowered testosterone, weak willed women, and incompetent managers/seniors that are only a couple shakes from getting into the c-suite that they're never going to rock the boat.

Thus, 3 classes, and a tiny ass scoped games. Nobody is fighting for more. Every time it gets a bit hairy, they just cut work down. 10 classes? Why not 7? 5? Wow good point, less work for me. ☺️

Fundamentally unfixable on a cultural level. Need a crash to purge all normies so the passionate nerds can rebuild.

Why a Skyrim clone has classses to begin with? Skyrim doesn't have classes. You just pick skills and perks from a bunch of skill trees. Seems like this whole game is bad from the get-go if nobody asked this simple question from the start.

Avowed lets you pick from any of the skill trees. Fighter/Wizard/Ranger is just to categorize the skills.
