I wish I could go back in time and tell Codex that in 2025 Skyrim remains at some unbeatable god tier RPG for the mainstream, and the only thing that comes close is a turn-based Baldur's Gate 3 made by Larian but they'll hate it.

I think in the past most people would be happy with Larian making turn based BG3.

TES never had complex gameplay, let's be real. This idea that after morrowind TES complexity fell off a cliff is just plain wrong. The only thing it really lost mechanically was spellmaking, which was a lot of fun don't get me wrong. What it really lost was in the complexity and length of quests and conversations with NPCs. This was due to voiceacting. Between Oblivion and Skyrim there just isn't any real difference in simplification, the game played the same.
Nevertheless there is a large contingent of codexers who view Morrowind as one of the greatest games of all time and Skyrim as one of the worst.

I guess they don't have that excuse after MS purchase but Fergie sees themselves as content makers not tool creators :P Not to mention everybody started using Unreal now, even abandoning their competent engines for it. Even tho Warhorse is also using the licensed cry engine, that didn't prevent them rewriting big chunk of it apparently.
This is something that has always mystified me, for decades: licensing an engine and creating one are barely 10-20% apart. There hasn't been a single licensed engine in the history of gaming that wasn't substantially re-written to do what the developer actually needed it to do.

There's also the CEO stupidity of "focus on your core skills and outsource everything else" which has resulted in a prosperous middleware market but no better games nor cheaper costs. If it takes 100 people to make a game, and you try to save costs by licensing an engine, you will still need 100 people to make the game plus 20 more people to rebuild the engine into something usable.

Apparently the genesis of Fallout was just Tim Cain fucking around and making different types of engines for fun.

even the items have a paragraph of verbose description attached to them
brevity has never been obsidian's strong suit, but they are especially self-indulgent with this franchise

Adjusted character settings so that unkillable characters will now respawn if they mysteriously die, preventing blocked quest progression.

:hmmm:
Well what can you do, the game wasn't designed with these people being killed in mind. KCDs do the same thing, you kill a civilian, they'll respawn like nothing happened.

I think the point is that it is kinda silly to call them "unkillable" if they can die. How hard is it to make your NPCs non killable?

Turn-based yes, but with troons, queeromancers and other degenerates? No.

When mentioning "going back in time" I assume in time before or as Divinity Original Sin was made. The same company that made Divine Divinity and Divinity 2 and didnt have much of degeneracy in their games. While at that time it probably would have not been top choice for one to make BG3 but it was still quite respected and fond developer.

For the not so many individuals that played, and beat, both PoEs and Avowed.
What's Eora current situation since the whole Eothas shenanigans in Deadfire? Did anything change drastically or was it just another day.
Godlikes are rare as fuck now

Everyone hates people that worship Eothas because he murdered so many people during Deadfire events
Not letting us Godhammer 2.0 Eothas Adra retarded asshole for a second time was a mistake.

I managed to free 80 GB space on my HDD. If Awowowowwwed would be crap, YOU are responsible because you didn't bitch a lot more.

edit: or I can use the unexpected free 80 GB for installation of Rogue Trader... Decisions. Decisions.

There is bitching, and there is bitching like in thread about Veilguard. They found some positives on this, namely ability to rape dying teenager.

Crashes & Major Issues

  • Adjusted character settings so that unkillable characters will now respawn if they mysteriously die, preventing blocked quest progression.

Quests & Area Design

  • Loot piles will no longer be placed in unexpected locations when created while the player is far away. Previously affected saved games will now have the loot pile back where the owning character died.
  • Players who killed Kostya and destroyed Solace Keep will no longer experience a dropped conversation when speaking with the leaders of the Living Lands during The Siege of Paradis. (Players with affected saves can now simply walk in and out of the meeting space to retrigger the conversation.)
  • Bounty Masters in Dawnshore, Shatterscarp, and Galawain’s Tusks now correctly allow players to turn in bounties, even if they have acquired more trophy items than expected.
  • Vemas now allows players to turn in Debt of Blood, even if they had already spoken to him upon returning.
  • The player will no longer become stuck with no objectives active during An Untimely End.
  • Fixed an issue where the player could become stuck in the environment near Dehengen's Cottage.
  • Enemy loot will no longer disappear if the player killed Ygwulf and the assassins in the Cistern, saved their game, and then reloaded that save.
  • Ambassador Hylgard can no longer die from drowning in The Strangleroot while following the player, which was preventing him from appearing at the embassy in Paradis.
  • The player will no longer be blocked from finishing Ancient Soil if Fior mes Iverno becomes inaccessible.

Systems & Gameplay Improvements

  • Godless chests and sarcophagi now have currency in their loot lists.
  • Upgrade materials (metal, wood, leather) are now more consistently available across stores in each region.
  • Upgrade materials now properly refresh when store stock updates.
  • Autosave frequency has been changed from 5 minutes to 10 minutes by default. (This can still be adjusted in player settings.)
  • Autosave slots increased from 3 to 5.
  • The ability Bleeding Cuts now applies Bleed Accumulation more reliably.
  • Logging into Xbox Network on Steam no longer resets the player's selected language setting.
  • Kai is now less likely to teleport inside a wall while using Leap of Daring.
  • Companions now assist in combat more reliably.

Visual & Art Fixes

  • Militia Guard patrolling Claviger's Landing now has the correct neck texture.
  • Adjusted health bar position for the enemy Putrid Skeleton Wizard.
  • Fixed jittering of player hair and armor when afflicted by Poison Accumulation.
  • Reduced opacity of a water fountain inside Ondra's Temple.

User Interface (UI) & Controls

  • Expanded controller rebind options:
    • Most controller inputs can now be rebound, except for UI Navigation, Pause Menu, and Ledger navigation.
  • Companion abilities bound to the Quick Slot menu no longer become undone after reloading a save.
  • Added new settings for controller users to adjust gamepad look acceleration strength and ramp-up time.
  • Corrected typos in the Encumbrance tutorial and on the Compiling Shaders screen (now correctly states “a few minutes” instead of “a few moments”).

Miscellaneous

  • Launching Avowed with DirectX 11 is now disabled, as the game does not support it.
    • Some players have been using a DirectX 11 launch parameter as a workaround for various crashes, performance problems, or compatibility concerns. However, this can introduce additional problems that we cannot troubleshoot or resolve, including unexpected visual or performance issues.
    • If you're encountering startup crashes, we recommend updating your drivers, verifying your game files, or reaching out to our support team at support.obsidian.net for assistance.

...just install Rogue Trader dammit.
There is black female that obligatory joins early in game, because owlcats company has black philia.

Also I found I planned to play "lost village", "galactic civilization IV", "Little witch Nobeta", "Wandering Sword", "Mana Khemia 2", and these interesting Vuzu games, also "anno 1404", and "anno 1701", or perhaps borrowing "stone of madness" from a friend.

Mana Khemia 2 is great game, it's bit better than Rogue Trader. The darkest character has dark fur and long white ears, not dark skin and full mouth of accusation of racism.

Obsidian should have listened to me and made more games in the Tyranny setting.

yes, because we need more STRONK WHAMEN post-apocalypse characters and bizzarro never happened in real life matriarchal societies..

Though I admit I did enjoy the moment when I was allowed to kick the water mage off the top of my tower.

edit - Also it's probably for the best we didn't get more games considering how the Sauron stand in is referred as generally either gender neutral or female. Nothing good could come from that considering the writers at Obsidian.

Honestly, Tyranny was the first game that threw up red flags for me with Obsidian. It was the herald of it's demise.

Kyros, while clearly female according to some out of game sources, is never seen, meanwhile all the Archons you do meet and battle with are male. It really is not a feminist game

Dude, the game had insane gender balancing. If one faction leader was male, then his second in command had to be female and vice versa. Since the top dog was just one, they made him genderless or some shit. If one faction was led by a man, then the other one had to be led by a woman...

The two female companions in Avowed are way more plot-relevant than Kai/Marcus. Kai is relevant at the start but afterwards he and Marcus might as well be Just Dudes Hanging Around

but it makes you parkour 30% faster which will help a lot in the third zone. also I should mention I haven't played this game yet
why even is parkouring such a big part of this gaym, I didn't see anyone yamakasi-ing it up in pillows 1&2
why would you not want to climb up things in a first person game? It's a perfect fit.
you can but it changes the whole nature of the game, suddenly you start putting useless loot in every nook & cranny and spend more time above street level in not a thief/assassin etc type gaym

I understand that Avowed was development hell the game, but at the same time some decisions don't make sense like the companions.
Anyone that played the game, knows if the companions has interaction with abilities? Like lets say I cast a fireball X companion will make the fireball behave in a certain way?
Or they are just there to be a meatshield? If they at least have some presence in combat where it could even make me think about my player build then ok its a good way to implement such feature, but if is just a meatshield talking head spewing irrelevant lore then fuck it.

Kai -> Tanky companion. Can taunt with his abilities, single target and also an AoE stomp taunt. His passive when you unlock it brings him back to life after getting knocked out once.
Marcus -> Ranged bow. Has a very useful Root ability. Has a ranged ability which is just fire a big shot at some target (but companion damage in this game is very meh, you're expected to do most damage)
Giatta -> Pure support, very good. Has Shield effect on entire party ability. Also has heal spell on entire party. Has a passive that you can make her auto attacks heal everyone each time she attacks
Yatzil -> Pure mage, kinda bad. Has some AoE spell and also a slow, doesnt feel like she does much...
