Not sure what the problem with the haircut is supposed to be, but that sounds like arbitrary nitpicking more than anything.
The popular saying "Codex is for fags" exists for a reason. Only a homo would care about someone's haircut.

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
I was here then and I remember it differently.
I'm not entirely certain what you mean. I am pretty certain I have more than 20k hours in the BG saga at this point and I'm *pretty sure* that as far as real choice goes, the only path that offers it is the evil one.

I've played the game all good, all neutral, all lawful, all chaotic, all female, all male, just bhallspawns, just bhallspawns and the gf/bf parties, from Candlekeep to Godhood, and the most nuanced playthrough is the evil one. (i.e. Trademeet where you actually have the option to poison the druid grove)
I've played with all the classes too, from A to Z, in case you're going to make that point. Same conclusion.

There were some people who shit-posted about it (real time with pause suxxors!) but those people were largely performing the internet asshole-peacock dance.
That being said, I still think it's wonderfully mediocre. And it's not because it was RtwP. In fact, that argument seems pretty shallow to me. It did back then too.

There are things, however, that the BG games did which is absolutely amazing that most developers have a hard time replicating today, even though we live "in the future":
  1. point on map -> double click on map -> snap that area to game screen - hasn't been replicated 'till this day
  2. accurate field of vision, and type of vision for multiple races - only indie
  3. allowing the player to place traps, and stack them - some RPGs. no triple A
  4. exploratory spells/ gather information spells (like Far Sight/ Know Alignment) - maybe indie, no triple A
  5. 2 timers: 1 for the real passage of time, and 1 for companions spent in party/ in-between party banter timer - alien concept for most developers
  6. allowing the player to KILL literally everything - remember law enforcement? remember cowled wizards teleporting out of thin air trying to destroy you at value 1 reputation?

I can't tell if you're trolling me or not, but it seems we're having a double standard on that walk we're having down on memory lane.

No but every bad guy is an evil character so as soon as you see that someone is of the evil alignment you get suspicious. That's why it'd be smart to switch things up.

:nocountryforshitposters:

Heavily depends on the setting.
Name one cRPG.
Dunno about it occurring in a cRPG using a D&D-derivative mechanical system that assigns alignments to characters, but Loghain in DAO was Lawful Neutral at best and Chaotic Neutral at worst (due to being unhinged thanks to his PTSD). Likewise with Letho in TW2 who is the main antagonist and also is Neutral on the moral axis.

It's harder to come up with an example where the antagonist is Good on the moral axis, but maybe the antagonist of SRR Dragonfall?
Guy was clearly unhinged, but his intentions were noble (even if not well thought out in light of the role played by dragons in the setting) and he'd pass for the SRR equivalent of a 'Lawful stupid' paladin.

If you count Lucian as the main antagonist of DOS 2, you could argue he falls somewhere on the good axis.

Although my mind jumped to Lucian first, I can't really call him good. A bit too genocidal. DA2 has main antagonists that are somewhat good, but terminally retarded.

The Arishok functions more as a Lawful Neutral sort of character since his morality (and loyalties) are at odds with those of Kirkwall.

As for Meredith, her 'true alignment' might be interpreted as Lawful Good, but she's in the same boat as Saren in ME1 - Good by nature, but Evil due to mental corruption.

I'm talking about Meredith and Orsino. What both of them want is simply to protect people, but unfortunately they have only two braincells to spare between them.

She's not dumb until the last hour in the game. In act 3 - which is really the only time she shows up - she shows a lot of restraint and good thinking, and the "lyrium corruption" seems to kick in literally at her last moments. From what I recall, Meredith was not supposed to even be an antagonist on the templar path, and her going insane was an ass pull, because the dev team wanted two bosses.
