For the next edition of D&D. a refinement of 5th edition referred to as '5.5E' or '5.25E', the old term 'races' is replaced with 'species'.

Yes, I was sighing as I typed this.
Oh yeah I know about that

Surely BG3 is not going to be changed to accommodate this though

That's what I meant

Unlikely, but I wouldn't put it past them if they make the upgrade to 5.5E. It's merely a string character in a menu.

sure

seems like u can swap your attributes around (for example half-elf 2 charisma for 2 str or whatever) so half-elf / 2-2 dwarf are best choice (or halfling with lucky fuckness)
edit and human is indeed trash since no extra feat + I doubt most of time u need more than 3 different attributes
Keep in mind that humans get +1 in every stat. For most classes your focus is on 2 stats but, especially the classic warrior archetypes (barb, fight, pal, ranger), you can't neglect your other stats. The aforementioned warrior derivatives will benefit from an overall higher combination of str+dex+con+(cha/wiz).
yeah but because of point modifier I doubt its still good to take human when just looking at attribute points but some1 can proof me wrong

then when considering that humans dont have any racial features it looks pretty terrible on paper

Light doesn't help ranged characters like Gale or Wyll (making Devil's Sight a mandatory invocation). And there's only one darkvision item in the game so far.

So humans, elves, orcs, etc in DnD aren't already different species?

If you can crossbreed and have fertile offspring then no, they are not defferent species. If your offspring is sterile (like mule) parent species can be different (like horse and donkey).

There are no nights in Baldur's Gate, so who cares.

Yeah no Coyotes, Wolves, and Dogs are different species. Just because you can breed things to produce Coywolves, Ligers, et cetera doesn't make them the same breed.

The key, my friend, is the ability to reproduce. And none of their offspring are able to reproduce except for rare occasions.

Coywolves (dog, coyote, wolf hybrids) are not sterile, Clymine Dolphins aren't sterile, et cetera (I imagine there are a lot of hybrid insect species out there as well). Also what about Ring Species where the extreme geographically distant ends of the same populations can't produce offspring. Breeding as an idea of speciation is at best more a general rule of thumb and has a lot of holes.

Now that I paid attention to the Barb list, they got fucked with no Totem Warrior or Zealot. Only left with the shit tier paths.

Yes. In BG3, Totem Warrior is renamed into Wildheart. We can expect the same from One DnD. In One DnD, Ki was renamed into Martial Discipline. We can expect the same to happen in BG3. The funny thing is, despite this attempt to divorce Monk from the magic oriental martial artist trope, they've actually made not a single other effort. Monk's subclasses are still a kung fu master, a ninja and the Last Airbender respectively, and the art they've used for Monk depicts an asian as well. Why did they even bother to rename Ki is an open question.
