We expected it to be a third person action game, so a RTwP one would've been a welcome surprise. TB is amazing though.

I'd like to see how loud everyone here would cry if divinity original sin 3 came out and was rtwp. All of a sudden none of you guys would be " mature, and reasonable" about it.

Because it's a strict downgrade.
Let's see how well this piece of shit will be remembered in 20 years. I doubt there will be a bunch of sell outs trying to get their grubby studio hands on it.

Meh, the game will be worth playing at least for the first chapter (which is a total fail when it comes to RPGs, but that's Larian for you), and I guess if I'm goofing around with friends, this will keep me interested for some more time beyond that.

The commercial success is beyond doubt.

Will the writing be too repulsive for me to keep going, like it proved to be with DA:Inquisition, that's the real unknown for me.
It is not beyond doubt. This time around they put way more money into it. They cannot just have DOS2 sale numbers. And turn based will never reach the bigger audience that will give you Skyrim sales or Witcher 3 sales.
The codex severely underestimates just how well DOS2 sold. It was the most successful 2017 release on Steam in terms of revenue despite releasing in September. It beat out games like the new Middle Earth game, Nier: Automata, the new assassin's creed game, the new call of duty game, For Honor, etc.,

That's both surprising, and not that surprising considering all the games you mentioned target consoles more than PC.

That link shows 1 million sales in 2017. I doubt it sold 1 million more after that at full price.

That will not be good enough for BG3.

Have you played the previous DOS games? It's similar to DAI writing, but with added "humor."
I've tried both, and couldn't bear it to finish either.

Shadowheart says 'yes'

Gale says 'jury's out'

Interplanar dimension-hopping nautiloid spelljammer ship of kitsch says 'I don't think so son'

But yeah, the writing is probably gonna be shit. I won't really care if I get a full-fledged 5E RPG with some fun encounters and cool hand-placed loot, tho.

larian are probably deaf to any old bg2 fans complaints because they have a new target audience and its the husband/wife twitch stream couple and the wil wheaton board game youtube show-watcher -- the kind of people attending pax -- and basically fuck you computer nerds, go play badly translated chinese junk for your core gamer needs

Is there gonna be subclasses like in boulder's gate 2? The paladin cavalier and inquisitor for the pro's
As they desperately seek a cure, it becomes obvious that a psychic link with the tadpole gives them new powers and some other unexpected benefits (including improved physical capabilities such as being able to jump further...

Anyone heard of a manga called Parasite? Larian is literally ripping it off!

i re-watched the presentation a bit and my major gripe besides the awful characters is that the game looks so damn janky its insane. glitchy lines of sights, dragging and clicking to move and stack boxes, oil patches on the ground and exploding barrels etc can fuck off. they'll probably add that stupid fucking teleportation pyramid too

i dont blame larian for doing an extremely divergent sequel though. wotc have been fucked in the head for the last 20 years. they probably just said "make DOS but with our IP" after looking at the sales numbers

Sup fluent.
I'm not fluent... That would be against the rules. I don't even type or act like him.

Western studios ripping off manga/animu/jPGs have surprisingly good track record.
