PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
I disliked that every player character seems to have a "badass superhero" personality, like they were all lvl 20 seasoned adventurers; I hope it's just a wrong impression from the shortness of the demo and that the unrevealed companions will have more range.
I also disliked the devil part, I'm not really eager about standing there left-clicking to browse through all the bullying-smug poem of some invincible dude; moreover the whole happening felt like a repainted version of the meetings with the gods of DOS2, which IMO weren't exactly exiting moments to say the least.
I liked all the rest.
yes me too, but all games do this nowadays. They all makes super heros, its really annoying. I don't see it going away really. I mean a 1st level swishy bard guy jumps off the ladder and its like the hulk jumped down from orbit and made a 40 foot crater.

It can't be worse than Baldur's Gate 1
If it lacks the freedom of Baldur's Gate I and II and replaces it with D:OS linearity of "look we have yuuge open areas.... which you will have to traverse exactly in the order we want", for the sake of some shitty "improved narrative experience" I will personally radicalize myself with ISIS and blow up Larian.

The last was exaggerated for improved narrative exeprience.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
So they tried to shift the writing from the trademark Larian pure cringe to a historicizing style. A welcome change but it's comically overwrought at places.

Otherwise it seems like DOS 3 in everything but the name. They even reuse the same animations and sounds during combat.

interesting thread, I likely will. Give me some time to read through what people have already contributed, looks like a good thread.

Nice to see they changed the dialogue - it would have been calamitous for the game otherwise. I really dislike the camera in all its scrolling, zooming, twisting and turning glory. It's not strictly necessary to complement vertical gameplay and just cheapens the overall look of the game. I'd rather have meticulously directed, fixed scenes (isometric or 3rd person) than all those shitty perspectives.

To be fair, this applies to the RPGCodex people in general, not just this thread. "Those supposed pseudo-incline rpgs are not truly incline but i 'd eat deart for any crpg at this point"

What are the real incline for you? 50M budget games where most of the budget is wasted on commiefornia wages and unproductive labor force due diversity hiring and they trying to do everything to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Since you love AAA so much i wanna ask. Do you think that if BioWare had made BG3, do you think taht the game will be better than Larian?

Even the most Larian hater here would consider Larian far better than BioWare.

For me, rolling is only interesting if you can't re roll. I did a no re roll run of ToEE and had a sorcerer with 7 DEX and only 17 CHA. But most people seems to try to get ludicrous high stats like every single one above 15...

Luckly BG3 has both. Only one question. Anyone here din't liked the presentation overall? I an not talking about a specific part.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
"this is not a true Baldur's Gate game reeeee",

To be fair, all of the people who are currently allowed in the thread have the opinion of "Its not a true Baldurs Gate game but I never expected a true Baldurs Gate 3 and Id eat dirt for a good crpg at this point"

Well, maybe not eat dirt in a world where Pathfinder:Kingmaker and PoE2: Deadfire exist (and a new Pathfinder is in the making), but... sure, a new good crpg would be very nice.

I was watching that interview ( https://youtu.be/yecUvbMnkhM ) and din't got. Why Vincke believes that spell slots are hard to new players grasp? A lot of games uses it. From Final Fantasy 1, PS1 Suikuden to modern games like Dark Souls 2. And note that i an mentioning consoele RPG's. For me, spell slots are easy to understand. You attune a spell and when cast, need to rest to "re attune" and use it again. And more powerful the magician is, more powerful and in greater quantity of spells he can "attune". It is a very simplistic abstraction. Same with spell circles. In a fantasy world, makes sense that someone who learned magic yesterday can only use the most basic magics while the strongest archagicians can use the most powerful spells ever. Even some games who uses "mana" tends to have spell circles like Gothic 1/2. On World of Darkness, they also separate spells by "dots"

  • 1st Dot: Initiate
  • 2nd Dot: Apprentice
  • 3rd Dot: Disciple
  • 4th Dot: Adept
  • 5th Dot: Master
Anything above 5th dot is reserved to archmagicians which has access to archspheres. The same abstration is used on physical things. Firearms skill and even fame, where 5 dot fame is famous all around the world. I never saw anyone criticizing spell slots on dark souls. Nor magical effects from weapons whych degrades the weapon durability.

Thank God the initiative is in. +M

No we just have to cry loud enough about the party size for Swen to understand that 6 is the bare minimum.
Is there an email or something? I really want to tell him to allow party of 6, but I don't want to use social media.

Not retards, just casual 12 year olds with tons of time to waste walking around looking what to do without a proper journal and map (and just alt-tabbing to visit some online guide), savescumming, and taking 10 seconds to click in order to swing a sword in turn based combat.

He won't listen to you. Divinity Original Sin games always had parties of 4.

I doubt that something as significant as party size will be changed at this point of development, as always mods are the only bet

I just plan on bothering him on Twitter. Sadly, I don't think the party size is a negotiable feature in their eyes, because I think they are firmly convinced that a larger party would inevitably lead to encounters that last for far too long. There are obvious solutions to this problem and I can't understand why larian strays as further from them as it possibly can.

It's also possible that they don't think they can put enough companions/origins in the game to support a party size bigger than the current one. You can't put just 6 characters in your game if the player can play with all of them in a single playthrough. I mean, you can (since you can create as many character as you want), but maybe they think it would look bad on the game.

They changed the entire dialogue writing style from that very awkward first-person narration we saw in the first gameplay showcase to the more orthodox style they showed us yesterday. But, yes, I'm pretty skeptic about it too.

It seems to me that you always try to (very unsubtly) shit on those same games that you constantly bring up as the cornerstones of modern CRPGs.

"[a game] made for casual 12 year olds with tons of time to wast walking around" really sounds like a perfect description for your beloved Skyrim and Fallout 76.

You gotta believe in the mods man. DoS2 mod worked great, and even DAO console commands to add party members did their job(for me), there were bugs yeah(mostly dialogs) but nothing that could ruin the overall comfy experience of a classic size party.

Your perception is incorrect. I don't love Fallout 76, i only like single player CRPGs.
