I'm not sure why everyone feels the need to defend Ernie. His life isn't going to get any more ruined than it already was with his tons of health problems, his dad investing none of his millions from TSR wisely, etc, and the OSR has an image problem that Ernie showing up to in no way help was unwise. TSR has also been shitting the bed, threatening to sue people(which at least is very TSR), trying to do nonsense right wing grifter shit (HAHA WE'RE NOT SHITTING OUR PANTS IN PANIC OUR SALES WENT UP VERY SLIGHTLY DURING THIS HAHAHAH PLEASE STOP SCREAMING AT US) and really they have no products. No games worth playing atm, all they have is the Gygax name and a controversy they refuse to stop feeding.

If they'd listen, I'd say this:
1. Shut the fuck up.
2. Release your RPG.
3. Build a community around it.

TSR Games has fired its Twitter account manager and hired a new Public Relations Officer after comments made by company employees, including the aforementioned manager and founder Ernie Gygax Jr. sparked outrage across social media and resulted in several organizations cutting ties with and condemning the newly revived company.

Near immediately after Gygax Jr.’s recent June 15th appearance on SciFi4Me TV’s ‘Live From The Bunker’ podcast, which saw the veteran developer criticize both Wizards of the Coast’s handling of the Dungeons & Dragons brand and the rising trend among tabletop communities towards rejecting players who do not follow ‘modern trends’ based on critical race and social justice theory, TSR Games’ Twitter account was inundated with outraged complaints over the founder’s statements.

Watch on
In the wake of this wave of backlash, the now-former (and currently unknown) TSR Games social media manager responded to a large swath of both fans and critics who were voicing their concerns, though many of those in the latter camp took offense to a number of the replies they received in response from the official company account.
For example, in the face of numerous criticisms of Gygax Jr.’s opinions, the TSR Games account adamantly held that the interview was “Ernie’s opinions not ours” and that “Ernie is Ernie,” but also that they “really do our best to keep politics out of it,” and “welcome everyone.”

On June 27th, the company compared events “in recent days” to “another moment in TSR history” – the Satanic Panic of the 1980s.
“Who recalls the Satanic Panic?” asked TSR Games. “Ends up some people, even today, still believe the #TTRPG & #DnD are in fact evil.”

Yet, admittedly, not all the account’s tweets on the subject were as polite as the ones above.
When Tabletop Twitch Affiliate @MTD_Jake asserted that “@TSR_games has taken up the banner for misogyny and anti trans/nb and I want no part of that,” TSR Games replied, “It’s really hard right, here are some tissues.”

After being criticized for tweeting “The TTRPG is the original safe space”, as user @Ushimimi asserted that the company was misusing a term meant to define a place “where people with serious trauma and things like PTSD will be able to avoid having an episode triggered,” TSR Games replied, “Actually many of our players & team members are vets &/or have PTSD.”
“That’s IS exactly what we mean,” they added. “Thanks cow.”

Further outrage was prompted when Gygax Jr. himself, while attempting to make amends and clear up confusion regarding his interview through the publication of a lengthy statement to his personal Twitter account, recalled how during his adolescence he routinely imagined shooting a number of upperclassmen who had bullied him.
“I played the Violin and often I began to wish that indeed I did have a Thompson 45 Machine Gun inside so that I could wipe away some of those laughs,” he tweeted at one point amidst his extended response.”

As complaints began to mount against TSR Games, with an overwhelming amount of outraged directed towards Gygax Jr.’s interview, a number of organizations announced that they would be completely cutting ties with the fledgling developer.
One of the organizations to do was Gen Con, who in response to a now deleted tweet ostensibly asking whether they supported or condemned TSR Games’ ‘behavior,’ firmly declared, “Gen Con is not associated with TSR Games and we don’t support their recent statements.”
“While the foundation of Gen Con is tied with the history of TTRPGs, our goal is to build off the good, acknowledge the bad, and work toward a present free from racism, misogyny, and homophobia,” asserted the popular tabletop convention.

Similarly, Jay Elliot’s TSR Games, a separate entity from Gygax Jr.’s company which coexists as the result of an ongoing sniping battle over the trademark for the name, revealed on June 27th that they were reversing on their previous decision to license the TSR Games name from their competitor, informing their fans that they would no longer “be licensing anything from the new company claiming rights to the TSR logos.”
“We are not working with them in any fashion,” affirmed the company, which has since adopted the name of their latest game, Top Secret, as their current working name.

These two organizations were soon joined by The Game Manufacturers Association, who wrote on June 28th that they were “aware of the appalling statements published by TSR Games and their founder” and assured their followers that they did “not condone nor agree with any part of it,” as they instead prided themselves “on supporting and promoting inclusivity always,”

“Our motto is ‘a game at every table, a table for everyone’,” asserted GAMA. “Transphobia, racism, and sexism will not be tolerated. That means that TSR is not welcome at Origins Game Fair, GAMA Expo or any event affiliated with our organization.”

However, like many companies before them, TSR Games eventually caved to the demands of the critics pounding on their door.
On July 1st, a newly hired Public Relations Officer, ‘Michael,’ introduced himself through the company’s public Twitter account, announcing that “The individual that was handling this account is no longer with TSR,” and asked players to “Please direct all future TSR communications to me.”

Michael also promised that “in the coming week,” the company would release a video “ featuring Ernie Gygax in which he will address SciFi4Me TV’s “Live from the Bunker 277” Interview [and] the childhood story he posted on his personal Twitter account.”
In conclusion to his statement, the PR officer asked users to “Please stand by…”

Rather than shitting up the regular OSR thread thought I throw this in here after seeing it pop up. One of the folks from that EN world thread is doing a kickstarter game to make OSR more "inclusive" with yet another retroclone and calls out the this situation.

What's Different From the Older Versions?

  • Alignment. Humanoids no longer have a default alignment in the Bestiary. This will vary by individual monster culture and region. You as the GM decide if all orcs are chaotic (evil), or if some might be neutral or even lawful based upon the cosmic forces influencing them.
  • Alignment part II. There are only three alignments, similar to B/X: lawful, neutral, and chaotic. Rather than being driven by a sense of individual morals, alignment is influenced by cosmic forces of law, neutrality, and chaos.
  • Ability modifiers. Modifiers you get to your ability scores based on race (hereafter called “ancestry”) will not be the sole method that adjusts your initial ability scores. You will now modify initial ability scores based on class choices.
  • Ability scores. Limits or modifiers based on gender or ancestry are removed.
  • Ability checks. Most skill resolution scenarios will be based on a simple ability check. It’s how many of us were doing it anyway, and does replace the traditional thief percentile based skills that appeared in the game back then.
  • Armor Class will be ascending, rather than descending or using attack tables.
  • Race. This term is going away and being replaced by Ancestry. The original term was used (and is still being used) because the game was based on the early fantasy works of authors like J.R.R. Tolkien where species like orcs and elves were called “races” based on being a humanoid variant of the human race in general. Since then, and over the past few decades, the term “race” isn’t really the best descriptor to use, and often carries loaded connotations.
  • Class categories. Rather than each “class” as unique like it is in 1e, 3e, 4e, and 5e, they will be in groups similar to how 2e classified them. For example, fighters, berserkers, paladins, and rangers would all be classes under the Warrior group.
  • Class features. Some class features/abilities have been added or rearranged to avoid what is called “dead levels”. A dead level is any level advancement where the PC doesn’t gain anything other than additional hit points. Dead levels are widely regarded as not a good thing.
  • KEEP IT SIMPLE. For those familiar with 1e or 2e, you know that there were a lot of rules for a lot of different scenarios, from time keeping to aerial flight maneuverability (and we ignored many of them). This game will be more streamlined and simplified, putting those scenarios into the hands of the GM to make an adjudication rather than dedicate hundreds of pages towards rules. The goal is to keep the game moving without needing to look up many different rules, and to give you a strong outline and guidance on how to handle these situations, rather than list them out individually for you.
  • Compatibility. You should be able to take those old modules from the 70s/80s and easily use them with only very minor adjustments (mostly moving from descending AC to ascending).

Walking the Talk

In this project I have made it a point to hire freelancers (artists, editors, etc) who belong to diverse groups themselves. This allows the game to have many sets of viewpoints and eyes on it, to ensure things like cultural appropriation is avoided and depictions of diverse cultures and ethnicities are done in a respectful manner, and to reflect what our modern hobby looks like, and to make everyone feel represented and welcome.

Note: I wrote this preview in late May. Since then, there has been a pretty large garbage fire regarding TSR3 revival, the people involved, and their anti-inclusionary rhetoric and attacks. So the timing of this seems...appropriate. As a fan of the OSR, I believe the OSR can be inclusive and welcoming, as it should be. I do not endorse or support the comments made by this new TSR group, and will do what I can to counter their message.

A lot of the changes are things any half-wit DM can do without needed a book to spell it out for them. The actual previews of his book look like total garbage too save for the stock art he got for the last one. It'll probably get funded but good luck getting anyone other than a small circle to play it.

So apparently they changed company name to Wonderfilled and apparently dropping the TSR name and then brought it back as another company called TSR hobbies.

Shits wacky.

Also I now understand the mentality of the average EN world poster

Dire Bare: You're disappointed that liberals and conservatives can get along, be friends, and work together?
PsyzhranV2: Speaking as a leftist, yes. It speaks to a lack of faith and conviction in their values on the part of the liberals. The only time to freely and willingly associate with conservatives is to publicly call them out on their reactionary hogwash. And I feel I should cap it off here given the moderation team's stance on political discussion.

It wasn't "leaked" but the campaign starter module "The Marmoreal Tomb" was released to backers sometime ago by Troll Lord games (who did the layout IIRC). It details some of the surrounding area around the actual dungeon environment and the first couple of levels of Grunn Galeb (the totality of which has not been released). It's all . . . fine. Nothing special, kind of generic, but depending on what happens with the expansions to the dungeon and the wilderness expansion, maybe it will be a nice cohesive place to run a campaign. Either way, the fact that this is all that's been released in 6 years is pretty underwhelming. Castle Xyntillan, Barrowmaze, Rappan Athuk, Keep on the Borderlands. I can think of those and dozen other published modules I'd want to run over this thing.

"Lizardman"? "Lizard MAN"?
If they're lizard people, then lizard-women would likely have an entirely different stat block on account of being fucking huge. They'd be way bigger and meaner than the much smaller lizard-men.

Depends how much lizard and how much human in these bio-freak experiments. Lizard Kings exist... lizard queens do not. Therefore, lizard women are weak lil 1d8+2 bitches. Lizard kiddies maybe 1d6 and lizzy babies 1d2.

You're a spider.... females are way bigger than males. Cannibals. You're a snack.

Sexual Dimorphism: Size
In most spiders, the female is significantly larger than the male -- often more than double. Using the example of the golden silk spider, the female isn't only more colorful, she's six times longer than the male. The female is 3 inches long compared to the male at a half-inch at most.
