if it sucks

I liked this game more than Solasta and BG3. But less than Kingmaker. Since you like 5E, IDK how much you will gonna like it.
Ruleset is not the most important part in a rpg, you start to worry me.
I think that it is very important. If Pathfinder Kingmaker where made in PF2e, it would be way worse. If was made in D&D 4e, would be unplayable.

D&D 4e is probably the most perfectly-designed RPG system for a turn-based video game anyone could ever ask for. So, naturally, nobody ever made it into one.

4e is too gamey, fells more like WoW in tabletop than an actual proper RPG.
So... a video game, then.

IMO RP >>>>> G.

Game mechanics needs to enhance the fantasy that you are portraying, not be in the way.

Playing this game and im in love with it. Much better than Pathfinder.

I played a bit now, still on lv 6(about an hour soloing a lot of quests that I already done) and I agree. Better than WoTR, but still worse than Kingmaker.

They added a lot of new quests and spells since the last time that I've played.

What I really liked about the plot of the game is that is a conflict among two cities and a curse of greed. Not "save the world from <insert a dark lord>"

Okay the difficulty goes up after EA content. Im probably at the final area of the game (not sure though but based on story getting that feeling) and there is this gatekeeper which I have been attacking for 5 mins straight and is still alive. Think there will be some complaints about hp bloats but it is fine in my opinion.

Also first main quest area after EA content the first boss was quite tough killed 2 of my companions which I had to revive at the temple. Took 3 attempts and that was the best result. Starts with whole party freeze and then nukes whole screen which I cant figure out how my casters can survive.
If you are playing veteran difficulty or higher you need to carry dead companions gear with you.

Out of EA today I noticed so I took a look at the video on the steam store page and I didn't wince. Pathfinder was the last Infinity-esque cRPG I played 2 or so years ago so if I get the yen to do another anytime soon, it might be this one. Might be. Unless there's a better alternative you want to talk me into.

Just put about two hours into it...and I'm hoping it warms up a bit. Everything seems super janky and uninspired. This is no where the quality of Pathfinder or POE, sad to say. This weekend I'll sink a handful of hours into it.

Only a few hours in, but so far I'm liking it.

It is such a breath of fresh air to be playing an RPG that is not D&D or a direct clone (like Pathfinder).
I'm looking at the classes, attributes and skills and I'm like "I don't really have too much of a clue what would be best" and I'm loving that!
Of course, it is entirely possible that the balance is completely whack and there are very obvious good and bad build choices, but having the opportunity to figure that out instead of knowing it already before even starting is a truly welcome change.

The VA is fine so far. Obviously not AAA, but fine.
Graphics look good, can't complain. Again obv. not AAA, but fine.

There are some obvious issues, but most of them no doubt due to a small team size. Can be excused, IMO, but is still very annoying.
Stuff like the UI being obtuse, sometimes. E.g. when leveling up or creating a character, you only get a tooltip of what attributes actually do in the final "review" screen.
Or when creating a character, you can't jump back and forth between categories in any order, you can only go to "next" and "previous".

The worst offender has to be the ability bar, though. Instead of having all abilities in one bar (as is fucking standard in every single RPG), you have this bar that doesn't show a fucking thing and you have to click through "sub-bars" (with non-intuitive buttons) to get to abilities that you actually want to use. Some of them have assignable shortcuts, some don't. The fuck?!
Just give me a single bar (with option to have multiple bars) and let me put everything that can be "used" there. Why make something so simple so needlessly complicated...

The combat log is WAY too small. Mine displays 3-4 lines at once. And I have to resize it after every single load

Combat log got fucked after EA worked fine before.
Ability bar is indeed shit luckily with spells you can select favorite ones which you can see from single bar. On the other hand abilities seems to be useful only for bosses so you dont need to bother too often with them.
Tooltip for attributes also worked fine for character creation before. Supernatural only showed that it only increase selected resistance which made me think it is a dump stat but it might actually be useful stat for melee now hard to say since I dont know how good higher special abilities are.
Physique feels too strong compared to other attributes just gives too much good stuff.

They say the game can last upwards to 60 hours if you're exploring and doing sidequests. How are you at the final boss already?

On another note, the game felt a little raw out of the gate still, so I had to refund. I plan on getting it after a few months more work. It seems like something I want to support, but have been burned too many times in the past couple years by indie CRPGs.

In my EA playthrough I experienced exactly one bug that prevented me from progressing and it was in a side quest. Which put it ahead of a lot of released games.
Again, I didn't find the game great or bad. Very OK experience.

EA had around 75-80% of all the content :? I would say reaching from EA ending to final boss took around 6 hours. Im at 27 hours now before final boss.

There might be some quests which they added for full game but Im not going to go to talk every npc again to see if they have quests to offer. I also have 3 quests which I have not done so doing those would probably add another 30-60 minutes to playtime.

Regarding final area - combat got really challenging on veteran difficulty. Think there are few battles that are harder than anything from newest pathfinder game (both games played on second highest difficulty). Combat is quite awkward when there are shitload of enemies and 1 fucker summoned around 30-40 enemies in single battle.

Also game is not better than pathfinder. Better than Solasta though.
