The border of the imaginary
He basically lived a rockstar life while making millions of dollars.
Creative-wise, I mean. He will die a very wealthy man, but an influential one? Up in the air.
Before PS:T, RPGs -- even Infinity-engine RPGs -- were primarily about combat, traps, navigating tricky dungeons, building an adventuring party, etc., and their plots were essentially hero journeys about defeating a demon or dragon of some kind. After PS:T, RPGs are primarily about dialogue, lore, building a debating society/salon, and their plots typically subvert heroic tropes and explore an guilt-ridden protagonist overcoming his inner demons. Some of that may have been inevitable (other media and genres have certainly moved in similar ways), but to trivialize the role Chris played in that sea change is unfair; it diminishes his legacy. I would even go so far as to say you couldn't have something like the new Star Wars trilogy without Chris first fatally undermining the morality and heroism of the setting. So I think his impact even outside of RPGs is significant.

Aside from changing the nature of RPGs, he changed the composition of the people who made them. Again, I think the Codex generally doesn't love those personnel decisions, but he went out of his way to promote an advance young women as game writers, which was a real change -- older RPGs were typically written by men who were steeped in grognard culture. I don't want to enter the debate as to his motives; the practical effect is undeniable though. Again, this is something that was happening across the genre and may have happened without him, but it's unfair to not recognize his role in pushing for this change.

Fuck you Chris Avellone
You killed the genre for combatfags with your muh feelings shit.

Kill monsters and Loot treasure. That is all the plot a true cRPG requires.

The rest is solid exploration, itemization, systems and GLORIOUS TB Combat.

and the only thing that gave me faith in this game has gone
Well, his work on the game was done, afaik.
And they aren't going to change the entire writing and story around now.

I really don't think him being fired affects the game all that much at this point, if at all.
It's just a horrible look on how their management works, basically treating full-time employees as freelancers and fire/hire as needed.

I'd rather people realized that PDX offerings are boring, no fun allowed, barely games so that we can have nice things again. But I guess your take will do, too.

Standin' pretty. In this dust that was a city.
People underestimate how much "attitude" and "culture" are prioritised within offices like this.

It seems the most likely scenario here is the game was well over budget with no release in site for what Brian wanted for the game along with the original design blueprint. During the last meeting where the delay was decided, Paradox told Hardsuit Labs that this game needed to be out by Q1/2 2021 and they were bringing in someone to ensure that was the case. Brian and his co worker who were aligned pushed back against this, probably made their dis-taste for the decision quite well known around the office and Paradox removed them to ensure the attitude and direction of the team wasn't affected.

The Ubisoft guy just seems like a business person, he's like a poor man's Rod Ferguson who will come in, ensure that the game is cobbled together to resemble a game with a beginning, middle and end and he'll likely be gone after the game ships. He won't give a toss about the game's vision, just about getting something out they can call "finished" and be damned with the cuts.

I feel for Brian, I didn't think much of his involvement originally but it seems like he did want to give the fans something great and was probably let down both by being too ambitious himself and the fact Hardsuit Labs are likely a hack development team with no real talent or experience. Paradox expected way too much and they should been realistic and ensured the scope of the game was much smaller right from the start.
Essentially this. PDX may be Swedes and all, but Europe-wise corporate isn't too willing to go for wokenes for the sake of serious money. People love to think of corporations like they are anthropomorphic and prone to emotional decisions as they are themselves, but that's simply naive given it's a multilevel data driven entity to maximize profit. They probably purged the "loyalists" to have their way, and just push the game through the door at expected date. Those are soulless white collar decisions by people that can't comprehend a difference between a technically working game and a good one. It's just a "product" now. PDX is a stock company and shit is getting "managed" in there on risk and reward basis. They'd become next Activision-Blizzard in a blink of an eye if they could.

Cool story bro

Pointless sensationalism. Flights aren't Gillette razors people are willing to drop based on personal preference. Woke commercials won't have a major impact on affordability and availability based decision like buying plane tickets especially in Europe where it's handled as being a part of Star Alliance anyway. Unlike a creative product like a game having it's creative personel axed we are talking here, it's not really a serious money decision, because it doesn't even affect the product (or service in this case). I'm not saying there are no corporations in Europe that made virtue signalling a business strategy, it's just not the standard. People love to scream bloody murder at flashy dangerhair SJWs, meanwhile the entire gaming industry is getting the Hollywood treatment for the sake of mass production. Look what's happening at Obsidian.

Chris was vocally proud of the people he nurtured and promoted in the industry and constantly said that folks like Cass, Zoe, etc. were better writers than he was. I'm sure he was being modest/self-effacing, but he wasn't saying that about everyone. Contrast the above tweets with, e.g.:

That's not to say he wasn't supportive of Vince and other developers

He didn't intend to escort drunken Vince to his hotel room, perhaps?

Chris sold out our beloved genre to the screeching harpies he envisioned as his harem of waifus, and we all know how did that end for him.

Could be fake/sensationalism but this random message by some one calming to work on the game is getting posted around

It's fake. Paradox reps on the Bloodlines 2 Discord said yesterday that there are no microtransactions.

I'm a little more willing to give the benefit of the doubt here since battletech and AoW Planetfall weren't egregious with their dlc. Battletech's were overpriced at worst.

Yet at the same time the fact they did bring in someone from Ubisoft to finish this doesn't help speculation.

He just happens to drop two things known for triggering gamers - microtransactions AND censorship. It's too perfect. And why would a dude who works for some localization outfit even know these details.

Then if its not microtransactions , its simply brian not working fast enough for them. Dead state took how many years ? eight ? What is tolerated for indie early access game development is not in serious industry.

I received my first email from Brian in Sep 2009, but we started working full-time on DS around Sep 2012. Released in 2014. That roughly equals to 4 full years with a small team, and we never had to wait for Brian. VtMB2 has been in development for a similar amount of time. I don't have any insight, but, speaking from personal experience, Brian being unproductive is an unlikely reason for what's happenning.
