I spent 48 hours on The Outer Worlds (no DLC), I wouldn't characterize that as short. That's longer than the first Fallout even and other players back this up https://howlongtobeat.com/game/3338 https://howlongtobeat.com/game/62935

It sold really well which is something that people still who don't like it, who didn't like it rally against it saying people were tricked or whatever. I don't know how people were tricked and continue to be tricked for five years, but there we go.

I binged every episode yesterday and it's... I don't really fucking know. Not gonna go into a whole rant about the TV show considering that's not the topic here but yeah.
It was carried by Walton Goggins, his performance alone made it watchable even if I was seething the entire time.
I'm curious to hear what Tim has to say.

Todd Howard e-mailed Cain asking if he wanted to go to the premiere, James Altman got Cain connected with the agency providing tickets, Linda Carter's son, really nice guy, met him at the after party.
Got a flight and hotel, went down the morning of April 9th. To make things easy on himself he just got a room at the Roosevelt which is right across from the Chinese Theater the premiere was at. Saw a robot vacuum cleaner going up and down across the entrance of his room. A bit creepy, it beeped at him when he got close. Kept going back and forth around his room, had a little name tag named Oscar
Put his bags down, walked down Hollywood Boulevard, where the Walk of Fame is, took some shots including Lynda Carter.
Got to the front of the Chinese Theater, blocked off, they were setting up a tent on Hollywood Boulevard. Whole block was shut down, doesn't know what you have to do to shut the block down, but it was impressive.
Was going to go to In N Out because you can't got to California without going to In N Out, but his hotel was just as close to Popeyes and he's a southern boy so he went there instead.
Very hot in LA, about 25 degrees hotter than in Seattle. Went to his Hotel, cooled down, got dressed up for the show. Had planned to wear some Nuka Quantum cufflinks he had, but they broke. First time he was going to wear them and one of them popped off. Switched his watch for a Pip-Boy. Nobody noticed, but Cain knew it was there.
Crossed the street to the theater, picked up his tickets, tickets included the after party. Ticket said it would start at 6, more like it started at 7. Some pictures and videos of the lobby and chairs starting at 3:59, lobby had a lot of neat decoration.
Chatted with Emil Pagiluiro, met Todd Howard's brother, was seated next to some of Bethesda's lawyers, assured them he was not taking pictures (They knew who he was, they had a fun talk.)
The theater had Fallout themed sodas and popcorn, Brian Fargo was sitting next to Cain, they talked the entire time before the premiere. First, Fargo remembers a lot of things that happened differently, and apparently some of Cain's viewers are harassing him and sending him hate online. Cain repeats he told people to stop that and that Fargo isn't a villain and Cain isn't a hero.
A little side story, Leonard and Cain remember things differently, at Obsidian after an interesting thing happened Leonard mentioned Cain's notes would be wrong and right.
Cain is going to change all the names because that isn't what is important, someone at Obsidian went by the shared office Cain had with Leonard, Cain will call him Bob. Bob leans into the office and talks about the big fight 'Jerry' and 'Mike' got into a few weeks ago. Jerry just quit, and Bob left the office. Cain takes notes "Jerry and Mike had big fight two weeks ago, Jerry quit today." Mentions it to Leonard at some point, Leonard says that Bob never actually said Jerry quit because of that fight. Those were two separate facts, Cain was just linking them together. Cain got curious, and started asking around. Bob had apparently been going around telling a lot of people at Obsidian these two pieces of info. Cain gets in touch with Jerry, and he says he didn't quit because of the argument. The Mike argument sounded louder and bigger than it was and was no big deal. Jerry quit for other reasons, and it turned out Bob had a very good reason to make people think it was Mike's fault Jerry quit, and deliberately phrased it like he did. If Cain looked at his notes 10 years later, there would have been no doubt in his mind Mike had caused Jerry to quit with that argument. Leonard and Cain talk about this a lot, part of his talk with Brian. Neither of them are necessarily wrong. Fargo really did not like Cain saying he was responsible for Cain getting a lower bonus, Cain said well he did get a lower bonus, Fargo says what he signed off on was giving Cain a higher bonus, Cain insists to Fargo he has financial documents to prove it, they talked about trying to get Interplay's records to figure out what went wrong. Maybe it got taxed, maybe it got cut down by someone else, Fargo claims he has no memory of talking to Cain about the lower bonus. If they can get along, the audience should be able to get along. Cut down the online stuff, some people in the audience can be really destructive which can be odd when it's about people who make things.
Anyway, back to the show. Show started at 7:30, Cain stops talking, sits at the edge of his seat. Big screen, very cool.
Saw the first two episodes back to back, likes the show. Thought it was very good visually, good humor, they got the vibe of Fallout, very well acted. Saw scenes that meant something to him in particular, asked about them later on
(Spoilers, on the thin chance someone here cares about that)
There is a scene where a Brotherhood knight gets attacked by a Yao Guai and gets chewed on, and his Squire is confused by what is happening. Funny, feels like actually experiencing chaotic Fallout combat, and the squire is later seen walking around in his armor, everyone is swiping people's armor in the Fallout games.
There was a scene done just for fun and Cain liked it (First episode wasn't so funny, second episode was more funny, Cain thinks that is the right way to do it, start serious, bring in the humor later on.) Lucky is looking for directions, there is some guy walking around slouched, Cain would swear he was mimicking the slouching loser villager animation from Fallout. Cain asked one of the show runners afterwards, he said he couldn't say for sure because a lot of the extras were Fallout fans and there was some improv. If he remembered correctly, that extra wanted to walk around like that. Cain has decided it was deliberate in his head.
Cain is going to have to rewatch the show because there were several times Cain was craning his neck around look at the big screen and how detailed the sets were. Cain spent so much time examining the set for a store a character walks into that after a few minutes he realized he had not followed the dialogue at all.
The two hours went by fast, Cain went to the after party, shows the picture with Fargo/Emil/Todd. Fun to talk to them, really nice guys. Some of the stuff people say about them online is really off. Part of Cain wishes you could go to something like this and meet the people and not just play a game and go off on the people.
Super nice, they chatted, friendly, fun, talked about different things they liked about the show. They go into the after party. Really big tent, bars on the middle and side, food everywhere. Saw the actor that plays Lucy's Dad, couldn't say hi to him. Talked to Jonathan Nolan (the director) quite a bit, Nolan asked what he thought. Cain discusses how much he liked it and the visuals, Cain liked to focus on the Vault details, what the vents and wall paneling looked like. Talked to Maximus' actor, told him was good, he was with his brother and sister in law. They were also staying at the Roosevelt, he asked them about the Oscar robot about the hotel. They knew it, so the sister in law says Cain must be on the fifth floor like they were, but Cain was on the Sixth, which meant Oscar knows how to use elevators. They were all creeped out by it, and after realizing the robot was also going back and forth the entrance of their room, they agreed they were probably going to be murdered by Oscar tonight. This is why Cain is not allowed at most Hollywood parties, but they thought it was amusing. The actor's brother was a data analyst, Cain talked to him about both being introverted people at a party with a bunch of Hollywood types. Cain has two brothers, wished one of them could have been with him. Todd and his brother were arguing about which one actually owned Fallout. They both said they were the one who bought it and the other brother just borrowed it. Cain thought that was funny, very brother-like.
Cain was at the after party from 9 30 PM to 11 30 PM, a very long time for Cain at a party if you know him. Everyone kept asking if he talked to Graham Wagner (Show runner and writer), hard to find him. Eventually found him, told him he loved it and the stuff about the dialogue he thought they nailed. Fun to talk to him, you could tell he cared about not just one particular Fallout but the whole series (If you watch the show, most of it seems based on Fallout 4 with some elements of the other games), he played all of the Fallout games in order. Went to one of the food tables(menu at 15:21), but Cain grabbed a In-N-Fallout Burger, so he ended up getting his In N Out anyway.
Doesn't know when the party ended, left at 11 30 exhausted.
Loved the event, very Hollywood, very nice. Fun to get dressed up for once. Cain kind of wonders if he should have bought a nicer suit, but maybe he was a good representation of a game dev.
Loved the people, loved the show, thinks you'll probably like it.

Fargo complained to Cain about how people are harassing him over the stolen bonus.

Regarding In-N-Out, I agree with Mr. J here

Tim liked the show but he says himself he wasn't even paying attention the dialogue. Like Rex with Hellgate London, maybe he just enjoyed the experience surrounding it (and the set and prop design).

I suspect he didn't want to say anything bad, so he just focused on the stuff he liked, or at least could pretend to like.

It's pretty crazy to think that people won't just go with the flow in this type of situation.
Even James Cameron said he thought T3 was great at the time when it just came out. I also remember that Warren Spector actually did criticize the new Deus Ex games a little when he was asked for his opinion and everyone was shocked like he broke some unwritten rule (HR for having no free melee option, MD for having a trailer that's too combat focused) and was "getting out of line".

Yeah it's standard for people in the industry to not publicly shit on each other's work. That doesn't stop Bethesda fans from screaming "Look, even Tim Cain liked it!" like Tim is incapable of being wrong.

Man i care very little less about this Fallout TV show, but talking about his opinion about it reminds me about this part of his Interview from this website:

"I did enjoy both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I know that surprised some of my fans, who wanted me to hate the games and rail against their design choices (which I have repeatedly pointed out were different than the ones I would have made), but there is no arguing that more people enjoy the modern versions of the franchise than the older ones."

My estimation of v*deo g*me d*velopers is continuing to plummet to previously thought impossible levels. It's like you pour your heart and soul into something, then whoever holds the IP shits all over it and you have to smile about it.
"Hehe, I don't actually care."
I remember a time when creatives used to shit all over each other and everyone else for really minor shit. They're all corporate slaves now.

Boomer Game devs are truly fucking retarded...
Only a select few still have their brains glued to their heads and their dignity and morals intact.

Behind you.

That's the argument I didn't get. They're not "creating new things". They're just taking something that's been in existence for two and a half decades, tossing in "modern sensibilities", making it goofy, and coughing it up like a cat with a particularly slimy hairball.

I haven't seen it. I really have no desire to see it. About the only reason I think I would see it would be morbid curiosity, the same reason why I watched the trailer. The big problem I have with the trailer is all the years that Bethesda has flip flopped on the Brotherhood of Steel, which somewhat started with Fallout Tactics. They were practically morally grey in the first two games, they just had their own interests. They went from nearly dying out in Fallout 2 to being spread across the entire United States in everything after that. In no game after Fallout 2 did they seem "small" with maybe the exception of New Vegas. They were ridiculously large in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 with no really good explanation. Even Fallout Tactics attempted to explain why the Brotherhood was fairly large in that game, even though they probably shouldn't be. You watch the trailer and it's like, "Oh, they're the good guys again?"

BOS were always self righteous pricks.
Unfortunately said pricks had access to high tech and advanced military training and scientific method, making them one of the big dogs in the post nuclear wasteland (albeit they were always rather
secretive).
Honestly, they were little better than the Enclave, just lacking the whole "Let's purify the post nuclear wasteland by committing genocide on those living in it" thing the Enclave had going.

Tim being a faggot nerd has no bearing on what Fallout is or isn't. He made some good games when he was young, surrounded by smart and talented people, and immersed in an interesting, not completely spent culture. Many such cases in history. Now that he's no longer being worked like a slave, he's just another faggot nerd. He's not someone you look up to or ask opinions about general things.

I think a nerd still got some pride.

Tim Cain is just straight out selling out now, I'm not sure how he really feels when the camera no longer records.
