I've compared the two sets of options, but all the properties I imagined would be different actually have identical values. There are occasionally properties present in one dump and missing in the other. There are still two properties which seem relevant and have different values, so I'll try adjusting them:

Rendering/DepthPrepassDistanceFactor = 100.000000 12.000000 (in 1.22)

Streaming/Culling/Fallback/DistanceTreshold = 64.000000 32.000000 (in 1.22)

There is also this one which may be relevant and is missing from the 1.22 options:
Rendering/DepthPrepassTriangleCountFactor = 0.005000

The good news is that I've found a torrent with 1.22 (and 1.04 actually), so I can now play around with comparing and swapping files.

It's curious for me as a complete 3D noob, at what level did the downgrade happen.

I've compared the options dump from 1.04 to 1.31, but except for the differences I've pointed out above, there is nothing else of significance. And changing those options doesn't produce any noticeable effect either.

What's the more curious finding is that graphics and LoD actually don't look too different when I start up 1.04. My conclusion is that I've been suffering from rose tinted glasses effect and the downgrade only affected consoles. So, if graphics seem downgraded, they are not, that's just the best CDPR could do for PC.

I told you most of the pop in was here from day 1 they actually improved the load of bilboards and street signs a bit in the newer patches. Anyway the graphics and art direction are one of the few good things about this game.

Seeing your screenshots, I'm thinking of removing the mod that removes the green filter and re-enabling the cinematic post-processing. Apparently the way to make present day graphics better is to add blurring post-processing. I think they are doing this to accomodate TVs with bad pixel density.

It's this unique character and flavour that make me pretty confident that CDPR will try to milk the game as much as they can. There are a lot of people who want the game to be good just because it's the strongest realization of this type of setting, and the game could have a decent afterlife if they get it up to a good enough standard that modders can properly build off.

That, and when technology has advanced to the point where the hardware to run this at maxed settings are commonplace. All it needs is a re-release every three years and a cottage industry of porn mods and the people that review them, and we're done.

The problem for modders at the moment is that you can only replace things, not add new things. Once you can add new stuff to the game and make quests, then we'll be off to the races.

Let's hope this will be possible then. For example Bloodlines has a hard-coded limited number of items it can handle, so to create new stuff for the UP we could only replace unused items or apply some dirty tricks...

Red Engine main limit is in adding land to playable area due third party tools they are using, same with dialogs etc which are handled by some AI assisted tool that generates on the fly animations but it is pre-baked.

This is why there are no new quests for TW3 and probably won't be for C77.

So whatever came of the witcher & cypunk source code leaks? Figured those might help with modding.

Not without plethora of third party and their own tools.

Modern game creation has little to do with what modders do in single tool. Usually whole thing is crapshot all over company servers with stuff only being put together for some purpose like testing etc.

Well, it looks like the ability to add objects to the game is finally here. And yes, it appears to involve extending a master list whenever you install a mod. Maybe later on, once it gets more development, it will be integrated into a mod manager.

CSVMerge - Item Addition Utility

This is a script utility that will enable the addition of, and compatibility between, mods that add new clothing items to the game.

Seems to only support clothes for now, the first mod to use it is a set of wigs. Maybe cars will come next.

Fucking Polandjank. It might not yet be Playway level, but jank it is. I couldnt even stand the Witcher. This shit was only hyped because the graphic artists used to work for a few bags of peanuts, so they could put thousand of them on a project that usually has 10. Consequently, graphic was good, gameplay was shit, story was retarded, games tedious as fuck.

The side content of this game relies too much on killing and looting compared to Witcher 3, which is more focused on narrative and storytelling. The thing is that the lack of enemy variety and enemy behavior hurts the game. Like Witcher 3 suffers from abusing the witcher senses and lack of exploration in missions.

For SCIENCE and giggles I tried a comparison how much the game has technically improved over the year. Installed the base version (1.04 I think) on my trusty old toaster, dicked around a little, then patched it up to maximum and tried again.
Oh boy. The base version ran at mostly "low" setting, still janky at times, the fully patched one now runs smooth on "high". No SSD mind you.
That's one hell of an "optimization" here. :hahano:

They also either recorded a lot more ads voiced by a woman heard everywhere, or the game was so buggy it only played 5% of the existing ones before. That and some changed fixed drops gave me quite a few "huh, that wasn't here before" moments.
Sure the open world part is still pretty "soul less", but tbh: if the game had come out in this state, players would have been a lot less complaining about it.

There are still many issues tho. Implants having stat requirements is still stupid, but I guess after dropping some kind of humanity stat way back it left them with no idea how else to limit implants on the player. So you still wonder: 12 tech for the shock immunity implant, 14 for the same through a perk... or just buy a clothing mod for... 250 shekelz. :balanced: :hahano:

And the old bug where Brick gets a plaque at the graveyard instead of Evelyn if you saved him is still there.
Maybe in another year.

Another thing I noticed was, ghosting a mission or using non-lethal takedowns is even more pointless now. To fix the "oversight" where you could knock people out for xp and cred, then kill them to get it again, apparently you get jack now if you just knock them out.
Tried the pharmacy gig (where the monowire used to be) all ninja like, and ended up half a bar short on xp and cred compared to doing it the 'murican way. Also no weapons to sell/scrap, since they only spawn in combat. Why, thank you game for encouraging me to make the game more challenging.
Guess I am supposed to use the "10-14 dmg" Achilles tech rifle, that actually does 4 digit headshots. Through walls. With no sway. :hahano:
