Has anything ever come close to what Hello Games did with NMS post-release tho?

Yes.

85k peak. Insane.
It is almost if shoulder content and franchising is a good idea and you should actually plan it correctly instead of just throwing the rights to some shitty studio consisting of political activists from overpriced American universities.

Can someone explain why this peaked again? Im not into shitty Japanese pornographic cartoons, netflix or other mainstream garbage.
It's almost that simple, an アニメ series brought attention back to it, and more people can play it now -- with reasonable performance, at least -- than when it launched; i.e. a time of extreme GPU shortages.

Anyme is incredibly popular it seems.
1.5 patched game and 1.6 added some small amount of content.
There were a lot of people that "wait till they fix it" and it seems to be the moment they picked to get back to it.

Just saw the anime, I don't tipically consume them but I liked it enough to see it while I was feeling sick.

The story was cliche enough but passable, the art and animation was great. The violence was ok, didn't make me sick like Invincible did for some reason so I guess it could have been better.

Funny thing is they already messaged they are abandoning it, so why even put in the effort? I guess to sell the only expansion, but it's all still kind of pointless.
I think its because this was always the plan to release the cartoon and pull the PR stunt in order to drive up hype for the multiplayer that never came, so they just stuck with the plan but never did the multiplayer. The show to me came across as how CDPR was envisioning multiplayer, this is probably also why they were opposed to the lol-i because Becca won't ever be a playable character in the game as this would require redoing all the cosmetics for a lol-i proportioned character, that and pandering to the twitter politics.

They won't even need to improve anything to gain most of their reputation/goodwill back before releasing Witcher4. With time, people forget how shitty CP actually was. Just look at the recent reviews on Steam, now sitting at 85%. Before Witcher 4 they will also release W3 RTX. By the time W4 comes out, most people/their target audience will consider CP a legit good game.

it's just weird to say a game is being abandoned when it has an expansion in development -- by that logic all games are in the process of being abandoned, you know?
Tell that to the people that bought the game for the previous generation of consoles, that CDPR now gave a big, fat middle finger to by announcing they won't be getting the expansion.

And yes, you can argue that a lot of the problems the game is suffering from can be tracked back to CDPR's attempt to make it fit into decade-old hardware, but there's also the fact that nobody forced CDRP to develop for the console, and this is now the second time around they have been caught lying to the same crowd - first about the performance, and second about them getting the expansion.

Whatever goodwill CDPR thinks they're gonna be winning back, they're not. They've fucked over too many people and burned too many bridges, and their alleged comeback has been half-hearted at best, and a complete farce at worst.

I am going to play this game at some point but I'm unsure whether I should buy it now or wait.

Is it worth playing on a 1080 or a PS5 or should I wait until I buy a new GPU in a few years?

I liked the part with the mission that has a self-driving car then you actually get the self-driving car but it can't drive you around because the game's AI isn't capable of doing that
quality

1970: we'll have self-driving cars any day now!
2020: we don't even have self-driving cars in video games
L. A. Noire is the closest we got and that's just fast travel.
I'm pretty sure there was a game where you could call a taxi and you'd actually ride it to the destination, don't remember if it was some GTA or maybe Saints Row.
Or maybe I just made it the fuck up in my old addled mind.

Wait until 70% off. If we go based on the trend Witcher 3 used it takes 3 years for that to happen we're presently in year 2 so you don't have much longer to wait really.
If you're that impatient the used market is selling it much lower than steam. If you're lucky swipe it off a moron that pre-ordered like I did lol.

The last Watchdogs has working self-driving cars. Maybe also the previous games, I dunno.
Omikron the Nomad Soul had self-driving cars. Heh

I don't really care about price that much, as you said, one can easily get it second hand or marked down in a physical store...

What I'm wondering about is performance, should I wait until I get a new GPU or can perhaps even play it on my ps5?

it went almost a decade without updates and only got more love thanks to being re-released on Steam, no? Also not sure you can compare an older game in the same way in terms of the complexity of their assets and the manhours it takes to iterate on them.
All they really did was bundle a popular mod with the Steam release, the DLC came after as an apology to reinvigorate interest in the IP after 3 effectively killed it. I dunno if I'd equate that to the NMS turn-around, and a lot like NMS the core issues with that game haven't really been fixed, they've just piled more stuff on it.
Whatever goodwill CDPR thinks they're gonna be winning back, they're not. They've fucked over too many people and burned too many bridges, and their alleged comeback has been half-hearted at best, and a complete farce at worst.
I don't know your average gaming schmuck is pretty quick to forgive and forget. I'll never trust a word out of CDProjekt's mouth ever again but I also wasn't stupid enough to fall for the initial release. It's definitely earning back goodwill, I'd say it's ignorant to say it isn't, you can check the Steam charts for proof of that, it will probably bounce back into a soft-success and be considered an 'okay' game from now in in the general cultural zeitgeist of the internet gaming sphere. All it will really take to earn back the trust of the average consumer is a polished Witcher 4 release and the police patch. People are really easy to please.

As one of the four people in the first world who owns a PS5 I can say the game ran pretty well on it and I encountered a minimal amount of bugs as of patch 1.5. There were two crashes and a slight visual hiccup every once and a while but nothing even close to the immersion-shattering shit going on at release.

I think if you wait a couple months you can probably get it for half off at least though, maybe even with the DLC bundled. It seems like an easy win to ride the wave of the anime's success with a nice sale to entice people back into giving the game a shot. Wait until 1.6 and you might even get cops that function like a game from 2003.

It really only seems like an issue for CD, all the traffic in the game is static like it's pre-programmed. Witcher 3 had the illusion of dynamism too, NPCs were railroaded and could not be interacted with in any meaningful way. Maybe it's an engine issue or their programmers just have no idea how to implement this kind of thing. I'm curious to see how borked the police update is going to be, because even during the main game if you're doing a 'car chase' it's with V planted in the passenger seat and everything happening on-rails.

Still waiting for that CDPR game with good gameplay, just hope that eventually happens before they get bought by EA or Microsoft.

Have they finally fixed the police, or they still spawn out of the blue and not chase you in car? No car shooting mechanics, no road blockades?

1st of all it was never any argument because you don't fight with police at all in game unless you start mowing down people. I finished 3 times with 1.0 version and never had issue with police as there wasn't single time when i need to mow down peds.

They did patch police to not spawn closely anymore. They now spawn as normal peds among crowd and when you start mowing down shit they do fight with you and run after you.

There are no car chases nor blockades. That is supposed to be patched in 2.0 version with expansion.

ah yes, just how I like my cyberpunk: as a law abiding citizen

You see those blue NCPD checkmarks on the map ? Those are all NCPD contracts you are doing. Also not even one quest in C77 pits you against cops.
The argument with cops makes sense in something like GTA because in GTA chasing and shooting cops is 95% of gameplay there is. Its what you do.
C77 main opponents are mostly gangs.

Also V isn't player created character. HE is much like Geralt and does have rules he/she follows.
