They must be smoking some serious butthash over at CDPR. Potato-flavored. The game is still far, far from being good. And one expansion will not make it great, either.

Cyberpunk 2077's launch wasn't that bad, but 'it became a cool thing not to like it'

...Platkow-Gilewski thinks people were down on the game a little too much. "I actually believe Cyberpunk on launch was way better than it was received, and even the first reviews were positive," he said. "Then it became a cool thing not to like it. We went from hero to zero pretty fast. That was [a] tough moment. We didn't know what was happening."

Despite the rather fierce criticism, Platkow-Gilewski says the team remained confident in its creation. "We knew that the game is great, yes we can improve it, yes we need to take time to do it, and we need to rebuild some stuff. That took us a lot of time, but I don't believe we were ever broken. We were always like: Let's do this."

Eh, the mainstream media reaction to the game's real and imaginary issues was clearly doctored. When they say they didn't know what was happening, it's a roundabout way of saying they didn't pay the right people to get the narrative they wanted.

CDPR must have forked the code between the actual RPG 2077 and the minimum viable product Keanu Reeves simulator they had to ship, right? it's not like they would just delete all the branching questlines and unused content. surely finishing the sewers and Biotechnica and lifepaths and selling it as a paid expansion would be more cost efficient than trying to make a sequel

The game is still far, far from being good.
As an RPG, CP2077 is pitiful
But as a fun videogame it's fine
Go ahead, list me any sort of egregious game designs flaws present in it (other than shit RPG mechanics)

This is shameless shilling
It's launch was a clusterfuck

However
Compared to the state of current Sim Racing games, CP2077 launch was quite ethical...

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
The release was a clusterfuck only on old gen consoles. That they represent enough of the player base to warrant mainstream media reports, is a different matter.

Ok, let's ignore the RPG elements. In that case, it's an open world game in the vein of GTA (at least that's what they were going for). Here's what sucks:
-the open world design that makes exploration completely meaningless, there aren't interesting interactions or events to find, everything looks like a backdrop of a movie
-NPCs in the world are quite literally faceless mannequins, there's no reason to ever stop and look at an NPC other than to laugh at them
-the traffic that spawns out of nowhere, completely ruining any sense of a lived-in world
-navigation in that open world is painful. You'd think that since this is an open world cyberpunk game, they'd rely on some novel idea to get you around, like an implant that puts a line on the road, or some kind of smart compass or guide (possiblities are limitless). But no, they use a fucking minimap, and a terrible one at that. And they zoom it in so much that it's painful (mods can fix that, I know, but still)
-also on this topic, there's a painful lack of inventiveness when it comes to cyberpunk stuff they could have done with UI/gameplay mechanics. There's nothing to distinguish this game from any other open world schlock on the market.
-driving is absolutely terrible, even after their "fixes." GTA 3 had better car handling and physics 20 years ago
-no car customization
-not enough inventive things done with implants, Deus Ex did better things more than 20 years ago
-the UI is bad across the board, especially in the inventory
-also on the topic of UI, they don't let you turn off the most annoying aspect of it, the quest marker. Even if you disable everything in the options, there's still going to be a yellow dot on your screen telling you where to go
-bad melee combat, with wonky animations
-in general, the physics in the entire game are floaty and strange. Cars, characters, movement, everything. Witcher had weird movement, too, but this is on another level.
-the way missions are given to you and how fixers communicate with you is terrible. Side mission are a lazy, uninspired, mess.

This is just off the top of my head, but all these things result in a mediocre game that feels like it shouldn't have been set in an open world. The only good things about it are the gunplay, graphics, and the main story (to an extent). These things can't be fixed with patches or mods. If it's fun for you, enjoy it. But every time I play, I can't help but think what it could've been, but it never will. Which makes it, you know, not fun at all.

Yea! It's not like a game company has ever fixed their game in a giant patch before! ESPECIALLY not CDPR! Who do these crazy pollacks think they are?

The main reason why they got so much flak is because the retards overhyped the game to stratosphere. I don't think I've ever seen a more hyped up game than this one – it was downright ridiculous, the expectations were sky high across the board. When the game they released was mediocre (that's how I'd rate it anyway), it bit them in the ass something fierce, as everyone, even shit-eating normalfags, were disappointed. Had this hype not been present, you'd read bullshit like "CDPR does it again! OMG KEANU! Best game of the decade" etc. with angry consoletard noises in the background.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Keanu (heard he is a real bro, also pretty shy), but the way he was aggressively overpromoted, as is often the case when big celebs join a project.

-the open world design that makes exploration completely meaningless
The game never encourages exploration of the world, meaning it's not a goal of the experience
The world map is clearly meant to primarly serve as a sandbox the quests take place in
The secondary purpose is to look pretty enough for chilling and taking screenshots
NPCs in the world are quite literally faceless mannequins, there's no reason to ever stop and look at an NPC other than to laugh at them
Same goes for GTA
NPC's don't matter they are just set-dressing
If the game is not meant to have extensive interaction with non-essential NPC's (à la TES or Gothic), than that's not a game design flaw
It's not even a flaw, it doesn't matter one bit
the traffic that spawns out of nowhere
Last time I played was around the launch of the 1.5 patch and I don't remember this being a thing then
It's also not an egregious game design flaw, it's a nitpick, a mistake that can be easily patched
navigation in that open world is painful
It was no more difficult than my experience with GTA4...
There's nothing to distinguish this game from any other open world schlock on the market.
Cool world map, artstyle and setting
Competently written quests
Passably fun combat
driving is absolutely terrible
Also no more bad than what i remember from playing GTA4
GTA 3 had better car ... physics 20 years ago
Sure but that's not a game breaking flaw
not enough inventive things done with implants, Deus Ex did better things more than 20 years ago
Deus Ex is also a much tighter and focused game, that needs everyone of its "upgrades" to be worth the cost
CP2077 by comparasion is far lengthier, less replayable and by design a more casual experience, it doesn't need highly diversified and specialized playstyles
-the UI is bad across the board
It's mediocre as it's clearly made for consoles
If you think that's bad, then count yourself lucky for never having to interface with actually substandard UI
-bad melee combat, with wonky animations
This is a hard disagree
The combat is simple but functional
It has decent game feel
And there's enough enemies that can quickly put the player down
Overall it's ok and can be enjoyable
in general, the physics in the entire game are floaty and strange
They can use some work for sure
But also from what I've played of 1.5, they already ironed out it's most inadequate faults
how fixers communicate with you is terrible.
Yes
Side mission are a lazy, uninspired, mess.
Then you've not played the game that much
Because there's a good amount of Side Quest that imo contain some the best moments in the game

In fact, I would say that the biggest problem with Side Quests relates to the fact that V suffers from being an "hybrid" character (voiced, yet meant to be an avatar)
This is, while he's supposed to be whatever the player chooses, his character "growth" is already determined from the moment you start the game and that growth happens only in the Main Quest
So there's plenty of situations in the Side Quests wherein V experinces some really intense shit, the kind which would immediately change a person
Yet none of these moments have any impact whatsoever on V, because again all of his "development" happens exclusively on the Main Quest

Now that.
Is an egregious game design flaw.
A story driven game, that doesn't account for the impact that the possible story events might have on the main character.
I.e, an instance where the execution of the game, is contradictory to the intended design.

CDPR is so full of shit. They deserve to get their offices overrun by trannies.

The release was a clusterfuck only on old gen consoles.

He's right, though, racofer. The initial release was quite smooth, at least for people with top-end gaming rigs. It looked great, ran great, and -- granted -- did have some bugs.

Don't you remember how much popin and other downgrades got added in once the Playstation fiasco reared its ugly head?

I can certainly understand if you can't stand the game, but if we're talking about on a technical level, I wouldn't consider it a clusterfuck at release.
