They expected Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 5 level sales, yet failed to achieve even The Witcher 3 levels. The game sold well, just not as well as they hoped. After a certain point, simply throwing money at a game is not enough.
Don't compare sales numbers. Just look at this (from right now):They expected Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 5 level sales, yet failed to achieve even The Witcher 3 levels. The game sold well, just not as well as they hoped. After a certain point, simply throwing money at a game is not enough.
It's unfair to compare it with Witcher 3 because it's simply too early. Witcher 3 kept breaking sales records for them even last year. The game will eventually take that route when it's finally what they initially wanted to release.
I don't see how Cyberpunk could possibly take that route. I know CDP are counting on this, but the game was simply not that well received even in regard to story, C&C and gameplay. The current critical consensus is that even if bugs are fixed, the game will remain mediocre. No, that's the Codex Consensus, but Joe McCasual doesn't give a shit about progression systems or level design, he's just pissed off that he can't play taxi driver and that his decade-old PlebStation vomits the disc out. If it weren't for the performance-related problems, the general public would be jerking GOTY awards all over Cyberpunk. The current critical consensus is that even if bugs are fixed, the game will remain mediocre.
Not exactly. In the initial reviews the reviewers were jerking off to CDP so hard their dicks their dicks fell off. But after that, they released new videos bashing the game, including by saying that the main issue is not the bugs, but the underlying game.If it weren't for the performance-related problems, the general public would be jerking GOTY awards all over Cyberpunk.
A very plastic example of how serious "specialist" press is, but the tide only turned once the performance problems on console came to light. After that, clickbait season was open and Cyberpunked was murdering household pets left and right. If the game handled on console as well as it did on PC, none of this would've happened and legitimate design criticism would've been restricted to the likes of the Codex, as usual. Not exactly. Yep, money's coming in so the owners are collecting, big whoop. It's just the usual tabloid spin, employee bonuses might be "lower than expected", but who's to say the "$4-6 million" aren't down as well? Are we supposed to be outraged at an even split of funds between the board and the rank-and-file? Yawn.Still, no denying that the board did fuck up by releasing the game prematurely. But it was still extremely successful, and since their contracts are tied to revenue, they get to share in that success.
Of course. But now that the cat is out of the box and it was open season on all Cyberpunk 2077 flaws, I don't see how the game can pull off a The Witcher 3 consistent post-release sales. It simply doesn't have the reputation TW3 had. Unless CDP pull off another "Enhanced Edition" like with The Witcher 1, they have no chance at critically redeeming the game.If the game handled on console as well as it did on PC, none of this would've happened and legitimate design criticism would've been restricted to the likes of the Codex, as usual.

I was referring to all TW3 sales since release, not just the first two months.Dude, just the pre-orders of CP2077 surpassed TW3 two month sales.
In that case you're comparing apples to dingleberries.I was referring to all TW3 sales since release, not just the first two months.Dude, just the pre-orders of CP2077 surpassed TW3 two month sales.
Like cvv pointed out, initial sales were strong, but on the long term it's hard to say, we'll have to see what CDPR pulls in terms of DLC and once adoption of the new console generation is up. I do think CDPR will pivot back to The Witcher series for their next game so they can polish up their brand again.Of course. Which one is the new, and which the 6 year old game?
Witcher 3 sold 30 million in 6 year period. They expected Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 5 level sales, yet failed to achieve even The Witcher 3 levels. The game sold well, just not as well as they hoped. After a certain point, simply throwing money at a game is not enough.
Where did I say it was bad you retard. I said "not as well as THEY hoped". Are you too moronic to even read properly? It is mindblowingly idiotic to consider this to be in any way bad.
In that case you're comparing apples to dingleberries.
Red Dead 2 numbers...They failed to meet this goal.
RDR2 sold 12 million copies in 3 days. CP sold 13 million in the first two weeks. So not exactly as good....but still pretty fucking good. And a gigantic step up from TW3. Meaning you're about 88% wrong.
Your post was dumb, because you said this:Where did I say it was bad you retard. I said "not as well as THEY hoped". Are you too moronic to even read properly?
Yep, retard confirmed. Welcome to my ignore list.Your post was dumb, because you said this:

He made a perfectly valid point and you put him on the ignore list? Get the fuck out of the codex you pussy.Yep, retard confirmed. Welcome to my ignore list.Your post was dumb, because you said this:
