Energy shield doesn't work with melee, so I use mostly Distruption field.

Out of curiosity, what's the general thoughts on Energy shield vs disruption field?

I can't wrap my mind around which one is actually better.
Oh boy...

That's only a question for gunners and my answer is "both".

For starters disruption only lasts 2+battery turns while shield is THEORETICALLY infinite. The shield needs to be "killed" and regenerates some HP per turn, meaning that in fights that tend to be long and drawn out like storming Jonas' Saloon or the Black Hand Fortress, shields tend to perform better. Another use case is evasion dumped "tanks", those will always go for shields.

Disruption OTOH works best when you're surrounded by high damage with no respite, like in the Hargrave fight. Oh, and let's not forget the zapping effect, deadly against frogs and the Dalton brothers.

I found disruption to be very useful against mutated critters, but not so useful against human opponents.

I just did Smile's stuff.

I see why people want her as a potential companion.

She's a woman after my own little murder hobo heart.

Welp...I've roamed around all of the 3 habitat factions (and shuttle bay).

Dedicated my life to the church but
also trying to secretly help the brotherhood and protectorate make peace. I personally think Abraham is wrong on this one.
Still think they're the best ones to have to have the device.

Can't seem to find any more quests, and the ones I have are obviously not finished. So I must be at the current end.

Now it's time to wait I guess.

When an update comes around I might start over. Made a few mistakes when building my characters. Now I better know the system.

Any new info about the ECLSS update?
Coming at the end of this week, apparently. The first beta will only contain the maintenance area and will have:

A fight to take over a fort (different fights and situations depending on faction, it's based on who you gave the machine to).
A fight against some combat robots and and turrets, getting some nice loot.
Stealing the eye needed to access the lower levels of mission control
Implant overclocking.
A couple of new energy weapons and an implant upgrade for the datajack (Bridge Officer).
Auto-unloading ammo from weapons you sell and loot.
AI improvements regarding enemy priority, especially regarding the value of DR. AI is much less likely to attack enemies they can't damage.
A new sneak feat, plus a couple of balance tweaks.
Some bugfixes.

How much Sneak is needed to get the eye? Sneak 5 isn't enough to get past the cameras. Is the cloaking field gadget necessary?

I did it with sneak 1 and gadget. I had 11 dex tho. Would be easier if overclock to 12 wasn't bugged.

Finally picked this bad boy up.

It's good....it's damn good. Interesting setting, pretty good writing, serviceable combat.

Anyways, something funny happened that I rather appreciated

Faythe made me promise not to kill some guy named Morgan, and then she accidently ended up killing him. And she acknowledged this and didn't leave my party. Though, uh, she was obviously unhappy with herself :P

:troll:

Oh and before Pink Eye gets upset, I reloaded and did it right. No killing. I'm not going to make Faythe miserable.
Sounds like a bug. In JA2 named rebels you recruit (Ira, Dimitri, Carlos, Miguel) refuse to target civilians.

I think disruption field is mostly superior. The first 2+battery turns are almost always going to be pretty decisive and disruption field is practically immortality against ranged attacks.

The true answer is: never the energy shield that takes up your chest slot, that one is meant for the garbage bin as soon as you pick up enough gadgets for everyone.

I wonder if I have a save to go into ECLSS with, or if I accidentally deleted/reverted it.

Don't throw the energy shield into garbage bin. It's essential for fighting frogs as a melee character since it immunizes you to the knockdown effect. Since frogs only focus legs + head; you can get away with losing chest slot in order to be immune towards knockdown effect for duration of shield HP, until the frogs destroy it - which means for several turns you'll be fine. Of course don't neglect leg or helmet armor - or goggles with good optical resistance, only applicable if fighting spitters.

Other trade off is that you're invincible for a few turns and don't have to worry about losing HP until the shield gets popped. Unlike human enemies who use ranged guns which have the capabilities to pop bubble in one turn thanks to burst shots and other attack modifiers similar to it; frogs take much longer to pop bubble.

Doesn't this compete with disruptor which makes the frogs kill themselves?

I found that pretty useful in a party, usually makes enemies beeline for the character wearing it.

It doesn't really compete because they serve different purposes. Depending on the player you may or may not value the purpose in which the gadget provides. One makes you invincible, other one makes frogs take chip damage. There's enough space there for them to not overlap.

it depends on the size of ur party. of course u give the energy shield to PC, Jed or Evans - if u built him this way -, so to those with heavy armor. enemy AI and all that. it's quite useful.

Yeah: and destroy it in one turn, and then the person wearing it has no DR and no gadget.

I mostly give it to Evans - position him in the open, use 20 AP to attack, then everyone else attacks him that turn, leaving rest of the party unscathed - then move him to cover, nobody targets him anymore.

You can do it with Sneak 4 and the cloak:

I think this needs a very upgraded cloak. I couldn't do it with sneak 5, ghost and just 4 turn duration on the cloak, the cameras would spot me every time.

EDIT:
Also holy shit this robot fight 18 in every armor class, 120 hp and ridonk damage output.

Is there a bug with shields in the current version? The robots attacks seem to ignore jeds shield, and when I instead went to take out brotherhood guys it seems my attacks went through the npc's shields. Only the chest based shield seems to work.

I assume that if I go with cobra I can't return to this area.

What's the minimum sneak to get through the Black Hand fort optimally?

With the sneak feats + cloak it was easy to kill everyone, but wasting less SP on sneak for trash mob loot seems better.

there are 2 enemies facing each other that would prohibit you from stabbing everyone. Actual sneak value for just passing by should be fairly low provided you got lockpicking and computers

did it with sneak 2 and dex 8. really not that hard.

the only thing impossible with those stats is to do it without cloaking field. and i tried hard to.

depends on what u want to do and how u skill ur PC/anyone else. sneak 2, computer 6 and cloaking field, again, is enough to get access to the most private area there. u can also kill all the henchman on the level u start on.

btw. what's behind the door with lockpick 6 on level 3?
