That was probably the plan from the beginning. But they should have added another biome as well to the DLC.

Reynauld being the highlight, along with the new girl, new items for 'em both, and another wandering boss. Fine, I guess?
Doesn't fix what's broken, but no single DLC will do that anyways I suppose.

I like this more than I liked the original, not that that's saying much, since I didn't like the original that much

I loved the art and the setting of the original but the whole gameplay loop and how grindy they made it was just retarded. Supposedly they fixed it later but I mean come on... I don't want to play some dumbed down radiant version for normies I wanted the authentic vision that Red Hook had but just a little bit more polished. Some poor design choices made me avoid parts of the world which they clearly put a lot of thought into.

I bought the expansion but haven't had the grit to play it from start to finish. Loosing my main team to some bullshit and having to grind them back again with levels, gear, skill ups, traits and everything else is just not my thing at this point. Loved the art/sound direction tho. Lovecraft is tricky to get but they did good on him in my book.

DDII look same but different in the bad kind of way to me. The DLC got me excited for the series again but I'm not sure I'd pick it up. I love that they are still doing content for the game tho. Hopefully we get to see more out of Red Hook studios in the future. For me they have that feeling that Supergiant Games had when they initially started and since then they've done some pretty solid, original and fun games. Hopefully Red Hook will be able to do the same but with a stronger sense of horror/gothic/lovecraft style to their projects. But not the mainstream lovecraft shit. I'm talking about that hard to read, words that rumble your brain when you hear them kind of lovecraft. That's really hard to nail.

Not a fan of buying games that I'm not going to play but I'm considering getting DDII just to support the devs. Who knows I might even like the game if I give a try.

They did not. I only played the game after its final big DLCs and all that stuff, and the core gameplay is still pretty much a mobile game.

This is the case for the second game as well, but at least this game has bigger variation between individual runs. I enjoy its challenge. Can't say the same for the first game.

The first game did have the superior atmosphere, though.

ayyyy
i like crusader but... the game needs more than just 2 characters to get fixed.
DD2 is one of those games that ended early access with a final boss/conclusion... but it didn't felt like a finished proudct at all. played for about 50 hours but still felt disapointed.
i like the first game more (despite its huge flaws)

I never got this one. The dumb driving minigame was an instant turn off. As was all the 3D stuff.
one of the main reasons I found DD2 annoying as fuck. the stagecoach section is pretty much pointless (the only gameplay part of driving the stagecoach is hitting debris on the road that can give you items/consumables) and increases the downtime between the fights and travelling to POIs by quite a lot.

and this downtime is not a stagecoach problem: there is A LOT of elements in the game that increase the downtime, making me believe that the devs INTENTIONALLY made the game artificially longer to increase playtime/try to retain player numbers for longer.

the combat on the game is FAST (and feels nice, i will give them that), but everything inbetween slows down to a CRAWL. this is BAFFLING to me because this is supossed to be a roguelite... a run based game where you are suposed to play multiple times to beat/unlock shit. but for some reason they made things stupidly slow to get to the point/juice of the game.
i respected the devs before DD2, but the epic exclusive was strike 1, the state of the final game was strike 2, how they will handle dlcs/updates will probably be strike 3 and out.

edit: I also forgot to mention that I found the way you unlocked character skills fucking retarded. Some of those skill mini-games have fail-states, and some of those are really retarded or have obtuse objectives. If you fail a mini-game, you will gain nothing. Its pretty much a wasted POI that you could've used to gain more resources.

I wish Red Hook had Supergiant's repertoire.

Ok, I got creamapi working with my steam copy, and from get go im already disapointed.
They locked the crusader behind a stupid quest that can take up to 3 runs to unlock while the other boring looking character is unlocked.
They locked the fucking character the everyone cares about from the start. Again, it feels like red hook is doing everything they can to piss people off.

Anyway, im going to post this guide for those who give a fuck and what to unlock the crusader.

DD2 whole game design is to make you waste countless hour of grind to eventually get fun/decent (or just viable in the worst case) build option, which by then you should be bored to death.

Except unlike DD1, the combat is actually fun and not painstakingly boring. I do wish it had a better campaign format though. Not like DD1 though, that was shit as well.

I liked DD1 (except for the grind) but DD2 heavily disappointed me, they made a generic roguelike which is the worst thing you could do in today's age.
The friendship system's execution is horrible, one guy crits a monster, saving the party's life, the other guy says "i could have done that -1 friendship" WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU THEN. :argh:
Also the meta upgrades system is unnecessary.

That doesn't happen anymore relationships-wise. It's far less punishing now and it was refined a lot. Agreed with the meta upgrades. Some of them are nice like trinket unlocks because whatever you unlock is available in the next run. The character ones though are bad design because you have to upgrade shit like "death's door resistance", which is a stat I never liked in both DD1 and DD2 and thank god the enemies no longer have it.

This seems pretty familiar. With this and Crusader, it almost feels like they want to go back to recapture the lost playerbase.
