Also, i think you are being really irresponsible in trying to make a row out of this.
I think most western muslims probably wouldnt give a shit, but there are plenty of shitty third-world religious demagogues that grab at anything to use for their own political gain.

I agree with you in that there would be many Muslims that would disagree with my view and more importantly, the guy that actually posted the original post on the Blizzard forums. But just like there would be many randoms that disagree with yours, it doesnt make my view worth any less than yours. There just views, you agree , disagree and you move on.

I mentioned 1.5billion before and i shouldnt have, because I dont speak for 1.5 billion, i speak for one.

I had no intention of creating any kind of storm. I just made a post on some no name blog that no one will read in 2 days time, asking a few questions, i think its just a matter of some puberty blues that some people feel the need to let off on something\someone, for today that's this article from some random called muslimgamer.

true muslims can't play computer games or even use a computer because it has drawings & pictures of living people/animals or even imaginary creatures (even worse). these things were strictly forbidden by the prophet.

Welcome Shadi,
Guys\Girls we have another Muslim Scholar here, he will be helping me with questions that i cant answer. Feel free to ask him about Islamic jurisprudence, i hear he is well versed in the matter.

Do the scrolls in the game look like the Torah? We better remove scrolls. I hope that none of the books have a plain black cover because I have seen some bibles that look that way, so they better only be on bookshelves, or better yet, on a shrine covered in the holy light of jesus jizz.

Do ALL Qurans look the same? There aren't different styles of covers for the book? That is just strange.

Hi Country_Gravy,
Do they look the same? Nope , there are plenty of different styles.

I guess you could argue asking does a German Sheppard look the same as a poodle?
Are they both Dogs?

And it's not just a texture. It's not just some cartoons in Denmark. It's the fucking principle. STFU and keep your shit to yourselves.

Even more sad is the fact that majority of corporate assholes think like you and this will get promptly "rectified". Welcome to the herd. This is why we can't have nice things.

Ok in regards tot he teach the west. Id recommend finding out why a lot of the stars are called what they are today, check up some stuff on algebra too, you might learn a few things.

In regards to principle, Im curious as to what principle that is exactly? Is is the right to expressing ones view?

Do you think that corporate execs really give 2 hoots about you or me? Your a dollar sign just like me, nothing more nothing less.

I didn't say ban religion outright (although that wouldn't be the worst idea ever), but ban indoctrination of children, a form of child abuse. I used baptism (at an early age, of course) as an example. When you reach the age to vote (whatever it is), you can, at your discretion, adopt (or not) whatever religion you wish. You are, however, not allowed to "taint" your children with religion of your choice. Most of the religious people are religious by inertia and habit and observe only a subset of rules of a specific religion.

Have you even asked if the Quran is what they are representing? What if the book was actually modeled after some pornographic text the art guy saw and thought was cool? Then you'd be calling a pornomag the Quran and defending it. That would cost you at least fifty virgins in the afterlife.

There are some aspects of this particular time in history that just piss me off. One that's p. much on top is shit like this, and worse, the "western" world's usual reaction to it. Someone's offended? Oh sorry for offending you, we'll just "tolerate" and "respect" you by doing it your way. I must've misunderstood the meaning of tolerance and respect or something, because this does not fucking compute.

First off, the most vocal complainers are not really offended, for them it's pretty much a test of power, of what one can get away with. They push, and more and more often, the media, companies, politicians back down. They know that now, so why stop pushing. Escalation is the logical consequence. If no-one is gonna oppose you...

Second, using the typical argument of a coward, hiding behind a faceless crowd: "Your're gonna offend 12128912912918998 people". So where are all these people? Isn't it presumptous for you to speak for them?

Cartoons, Theo van Gogh's stuff, Southpark, food in prison [about a million other things] and now a computer game with an imagined slight on your unsubstantiated beliefs and fake honor.

tl:dr

FUCK YOU!

Ha, Marsal kinda beat me to it. Cheers man.

Hi Needles, I think you have an issue with humanity buddy, not me. I sense a tenseness in your typing from here, im concerned! May i suggest this? Let me know if it helps?

Im kind of confused on what exactly your definition of tolerance and respect is?

Either you dont think people should be able to get offended\respected for their view - In which case, why are you offended?
Or people are allowed to put their view across - in which case, you should have no problem with what anyone says?

or you mean option 3 - the one no one talks about (repect my view and tolerate my stuff, but i dont have to with you)

I think everyone is kind of missing the point I am trying to make. I didnt make the post on the Blizzard forums. I just wrote an article about it. My question to anyone that read it was
"Should religion and games be kept apart?"

No. Why should they? Religion is part of human experience and culture. Thus it is a free source of inspiration for all art and entertainment - in a liberal, free society. Complaining about liberal, free society means that you don't want to live in a liberal, free society. Maybe Saudi-Arabia or Iran would work out better for the complainers?

As to the actual object of complaint, it's nothing more than some Christian throwing a hissy fit after someone eats a toast that had a burn mark on it. Because of your mental bias, you *want* to see connection and then throw drama about it, like a teenage girl. Since drama is exciting and fun.

It would be different if Blizzard actually made Quran in the game and then had a dog shat on it. I would still argue that they have a right to do so but that's intentionally insulting and I can understand someone getting upset about it. But seeing a vague resemblance over few pixels? Teenage girl hissy fit drama queen.

Even if there was INTENTIONAL mockery of Islam in a game, a sign of maturity would be NOT to be offended. Look how many games use Satanic symbols, ever heard of a Christian outrage about this?

Agreed, one way of dealing with it is by saying nothing, another is to say hey, just letting you know that it looks kind of similar do you mind changing it?

Yes- Cool! Thanks

No - Ok no problem. Thanks

I really dont see an issue with either of those options. Now if someone goes all derka derka on you for saying no, im with you on it, ill be there posting on some no name blog going what the hell are these people going on about? I just don't see how asking\ letting Blizzard know that there is a resemblance is somehow wanting to take over the world?

I would rather that religious stuff just wasn't in the game at all. I personally just don't see the point of mixing games, which are mostly based on stories and mythical stuff with real life religious icons\objects.

This is exactly the problem. You have a distorted enough world view to claim that your mythology is somehow separate and real compared to other mythology. Once you sort this simple fact out in your own head you'll stop finding connections that aren't there. Hint: A filigreed book could be a collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales as much as Muhammad's Fairy Tales. It's a matter of perspective.

Agreed, i could be seeing something that you dont. But does it mean I cant voice my opinion?

You know what you're the first one to upset me garfunkel :( I have been trying so hard to be "civilized" and "rational" this whole thread, trying my hardest to not sound like a hissy fit throwing girl and it seems i failed:( All i ever wanted to do was answer some questions.

I know you're not going to like this, but I like you. You are one of those that can coherently lay an argument out, get your point across and do it without resorting to the bomb i have been building in my cave (Hi FBI!).

I asked a question, you answered it, and you are entitled to that opinion! All i ever wanted was for my opinion to be counted like yours :( I mean no harm promise! I just said hey i think games and religion should be separated, what do you think?

If i were feeling paranoid, then the US feds would be confiscating DU's servers suspecting it to be a nexus for one of Breiviks terrorcells.

There is only flaw in that theory....NO way we'd let a retarded WoW gamer in here :smug:

this is a famous cop out by "pick & choose laws" muslims. they declare themselves as "non-scholars" and therefore can eat bacon, drink alcohol, play video games, & sleep with random women. but at least they go through the motions of prayer a few times a day. to make themselves feel better, they get butthurt over imaginary insults against islam.

my point is, that anyone who is serious about islam as to be genuinely offended by a book texture, wouldn't even play games.

Games of dice means gambling. Chess is an attempt to put your ego on par with allah.

Games in general are fine. No one is cutting kids' feet off for kicking a rock around. There's even computer games sponsored by the iranian government which aren't even dogmatic.

Sorry, iI just couldn't leave this one thing alone.
Dear muslim gamer, You yourself should try to find out why a lot of the stars are called what are they called today and all that algebra stuff. When You really look at the history, you'll realise that at the time muslim world was the cenre of human enlightement precisely because it wasn't as hard on the religious dogma bullshit as Europe was with their papal dark ages back then. And do You know why everything changed since and algebra/star names is the only truly groundbraking scientific thing that's left? That's right - religious morons hijacked the whole thing and stoned back the muslim world to dark ages. Mostly by banning books that they felt was offending their religion.
And that is also a major reason why most of the muslim world is still knee deep in camel shit up to this day. Your religious centre is in a country where women are being lashed for driving cars ffs.
