I was suddenly getting huge cooldowns on things where I've never noticed any cooldowns, and found myself running from enemies waiting for the cooldowns to... cool down? for the first time since I've started playing the game. Then I returned to it a bit later, and it seemed fine again...

I've been playing WH40K: Inquisitor while watching the dumpster fire that is D4, and I'm having a lot of fun.

Inquisitor is not in alpha state like D4, been around for a couple of years too so it's in a great state, and the setting is a breath of fresh air in the fantasy-saturated aRPG space. Mechanics are more complex that the Diablows, less than PoE but clearly inspired by it. I recommend, when you guys have had enough of self-flagellating by playing D4.

I did check it out on M$ store and put it on wishlist for when it has a steep discount. But if I get to play it depends mostly on when PoE2 is coming out and if it is going to be good.

Funny thing about Inquisitor Martyr is you still get the Diablo 4 experience out of it - repetitive maps, small variety of enemies, both converging to deliver a rather dull endgame, at best two feasible playstyles for each class at endgame,
main story that drags on forever, nonsensical DLCs in which you pay for emotes and access to obsolete item traders.
Itemization is only a bit less dull, I quite liked the "design your own health potion" mechanic.

The combat and atmosphere is good enough to carry it and I had 120 hours of decent fun with it.
Decent game for what it is.

I've been out of town for a week, so I missed the season start for D4.
Will probably get back to it, but at the moment I'm catching up with the recent stuff in the turn-based-tactical genre.

Itemization is only a bit less dull, I quite liked the "design your own health potion" mechanic.

Yeah that's quite nice, instead of having a bunch of potions, you get to tailor the many effects of one.

Many options for crafting too, changing modifiers and rerolling the stats. Not as elaborate as PoE, but I really like being able to tailor my RNG, improve my items.

I'm still getting to the end game (lvl65), but I've done a Void Crusade which is basically PoE's mini-Atlas + Labyrinth. Choice of loot at the end depending on the # of keys you unlocked. Not sure how it'll hold up long term, but I liked it. I also really like the PoE-like mission customization with the Tarot cards, choose to increase the challenge to get more rewards.

All this gives you control over what you're doing, rather than being purely at the mercy of RNGesus like most aRPGs.

you're not missing much outside a 5-minute story line and filling up your inventory with the same 5 malignant hearts.

Yeah, D4 and PoE are polar opposites in their approach to seasons.

PoE really holds back its season content where you have to grind for hundreds of hours to see everything; with D4 you see everything before you even reach Nightmare, let alone Torment, long before level 50, so there is a very elementary question of, "Why keep playing?"

Edit: Okay, this is not technically true, there is 1 Torment level gem for every class, but in the main, 90% of stuff is there from level 1.

I think one trick D4 can learn from PoE here is integrating itemization more thoroughly into its season content. If malignant hearts had a full set of affix bonuses that were randomized and could be upgraded through grind, there would be a lot more reason to do the malignant dungeons & content, but as is... every heart is practically the same, once you've dropped one you've seen them all (of that type). And there's no PoE-style locking the best stuff behind lots of combination/crafting or RNG, just reaching Torment is enough.

It's honestly kind of embarrassing that Blizzard has to learn these lessons from a copycat, but then modern Blizzard are just interns who never had anything to do with Diablo in the first place, so...

PoE had one League (Incursion/Alva Temple) where they let you see the end content as soon as Act 2 and it was extremely bad for retention.

Entertaining for the people not playing it. As a player it's pretty soul crushing because the game can be alot of fun and has massive potential for growth. The Blizzard self-sabotaging is just depressing af to me. In my opinion they should revert the game back to it's launch state where the game seemed to be at it's best and just go back to the drawing board. Look at all the mistakes they've made and do the exact opposite.

Renown refarming is shit, itemization is incredibly convoluted and boring, every single dungeon is the same, there is no context cohesion and to crown this the level scaling makes certain the game remains fucking slog no matter where you go. Renown is indeed ass. That whole thing needs redone or removed entirely. Atleast get rid of the 4th one that increases your max obols capacity. That is the lamest fucking "reward" imaginable. And there is no reasonable explanation for why all that shit can't carry over from character to character.

The campaign was entertaining enough for a playthrough.
