Cautiously downloading. I like DD1 and all, but it feels for me that Larian writing is mostly lulz (DC reminded me of that). I'm okay with lulz and charming, but it's hard to be hyped about lulz and charming when I also backed PoE/Numenera and so on.
So my hopes are on the gameplay, I know there are many skills there, tb combat, characters talking with each other (and you can pickpocket a cat - GOTY, 11/10 etc.) But I can't get hyped like other people here. Still I would like to be surprised.
If only I could get more than 1.1 m bit for some reason...
Since German Amazon has some delay issues, I won't be able to play it for at least the next two days.
I have the same reservations about the game as you do. So if you could post a quick first impression about this issue after you played it for a bit that'd be great!

K. I've already played the early alpha so a lot of what I'm seeing I've already seen, albeit improved, so not too much to comment on so far (nice tutorial though!). But I've got to mention this: I fucking hate the voice work. Had to turn it off in the audio controls before I stabbed myself in the fucking ears. Just too goddamn repetitive and persistent for my liking and I wasn't particularly sold on the pc voices either. I dunno. I come from a time before voice acting and I just really don't appreciate it in a game like this.

I said they shouldn't delay release because of voice acting, and rather do proper quests and add more content... It's nice to know they shot themselves into the foot.

What starting class combo did you guys end up choosing?

I took a 1 handed/shield guy with witchcraft for self buff and short ranged debuffs. Know it all and opportunist for talents. 7 Str, 7 Con, 6 Speed

The other is an elementalist. Enchanter shell with all elemental skills and telekinesis. Far out and Pet pal talents. 8 int 6 int 6 per

I mean, can you imagine if the Vault Dweller or Chosen One was voiced? How completely and utterly soul-crushing would that be? I just don't understand how anybody at Larian thought this was a proper use of time and resources. Luckily it's toggle-able but it really is infuriating when you're confronted with yet another stupid goddamn mistake a group of developers chose not to learn from.

At what point does the world "open up"? About 5 hours in and still in the first town it's all corridors to this point.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Is it possible to play on LAN with a single key with the Gog version? Or do you need 2 keys for that?

Just arrived in Cyseal, does the game get harder?
You mean you just did the tutorial? Cyseal is like 5 minutes away from the starting point, you have only 2 fights to get there, unless you enter the turorial dungeon.

And yes, it gets MUCH harder.

Holy hell I don't envy chronical looters who'll play this game. They will turn insane in first city walking into first house

So game is like DD1/Ultimas, up to ability to poison cup of milk. Now I wonder where is local Lord British...

I don't like skill books. They really push you into stealing everything that isn't nailed.
I think world building like that is impressive but a bit excessive at the same time. I'm not sure many players would combine water, flour and tomatoes by clicking instead of fighting monsters/doing quests. And if you have at least 1 healing skill, all your healing problems are solved outside of combat, so why even use food?

Still it's somewhat incredible to see game like that being made nowadays. But I am not sure I like skill system that much. It seems that hoarding skill points instead of spending them is mandatory if you want to become better at least at something. Wouldn't it have been easier to cap skills in some other way?

...shit, I should have gone to sleep 5 hours ago...

I'm using the GOG version of the game because GOG.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but is there a manual somewhere? I can't see to find one in the game files or online. Would like a better idea of what the points I'm investing will do before I start the game proper.

Cant get the editor to work at all *sad*

I got it running. Did you follow the guilds on the steam community page?
Yes but after installing everything again it now works! yay!

Edit: Do anyone know the max size of a map? i tried creating a 8388608 zone did not work... Then i went down to 20000 still to large i guess? Hmm but its possible to make lots of small areas and create new terrains for each one of them?

Good question...But thankfully the tooltips are detailed enough

I'd say that's the kind of details that sets it apart. Many players may not care about combining food but the fact that the option is there is enough to give you the feeling that you can interact with the world in many ways. Look at Ultima VII and how people still fondly remember that you could bake your own bread in that game, despite the fact that it isn't indispensable to win the game.
