I meant a fan patch, like Stratagems for BG or 1.3 for FFT. As these two examples show, devs rarely (never?) bother with this kind of mods themselves.

I know that's probably a long time coming, that's why I said I'd probably replay the game with 2 characters first.

The only I can think of is CD Project Red with its "Full Combat Rebalance 2" http://redkit.cdprojektred.com/index.php?c=mod&m=show&p=77
It's atleast made by one of the persons working there..

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I finished the game. Last fight wasn't as bad as some people claim (it was rather easy as soon as I managed to deal with the annoying respawning creatures) but it was kinda tedious.

Best game of 2014, nevertheless.

Playtime?

I'm lvl15 and I've clocked 70 hours. I'm still roaming around the Luculla area, I've bumbled into two new ones, if they're as enourmous as the first two ones, I can see myself easily clocking 100+ hours.

Is it the most hueguest game since like Wizardry 7 or what? I've never finished Skyrim, people say that is big, but apart from that I don't remember anything so fat in the last 15 years.

Did you start over at some point? I explored pretty thorougly and did almost every sidequest, but I stuck with my original characters, never started over with different specs.

Nope, just taking my standard sweet time. But still, that difference...Somebody even said 50 hours few pages ago which I don't get at all.

Finally finished it as well - what can I say, this is definitely the best game of the last several years. The endgame was a bit of a slog and there are some annoying bits (slow-ass animations, random loot), but I'm still amazed that a game like this has been made in 2014. Great stuff! :incline:

My playtime was 112 hours, but I started over several times and spent a lot of time just faffing about, so I'd guess there's around 80 hours of content here if you advance at a reasonable pace.

167 hours (including alpha, beta and idle time) at level 13 right now.

I'm concerned about some people talking of fatigue in the late game. I also had brief moments when I thought that pushing through another group of goblins will be tiresome, but, as of yet, the game still throws crazy shit at you every other encounter, so we all good. Maybe this feeling becomes more prevalent later, but right now the combat is so fun that I find it difficult to believe.

As others have pointed out, it's not the encounters themselves that are the problem but that once you hone your strategy it's successful in every successive fight. Anyway, I was suprised Sacred Stone didn't offer much in the way of quests (unless I missed something). Hunter's Edge was pretty fun, especially incriminating the orcs. Also, did anyone else pull their hair when you have to get the bitch's blood for the Death Knight spell? I swear it took me forever to find the button placed on top of the stairs.

Well, it's more that the balance isn't very well thought out towards the end -- high stats (INT particularly) combined with certain traits make you an unstoppable engine of destruction. They probably should have capped resistances at 80% and limited the cooldown decrease from INT to maintain some challenge.

Obviously it could be just my inner modern popamole gamer talking with his short attention span (I rarely play the same game for more than 80 hours in a row), but overall I feel that - like most games - D:OS is a bit front-loaded when it comes to interesting content (which makes sense, as that's the part that most people will see). I.e. I found the most memorable and interesting quests to be in Cyseal and Silverglen, while the third major area mostly consisted of combat (don't get me wrong - there are some fun quests there as well!). The combat, as Ivan mentioned, remains fun until the end but it does get repetitive and rather easy at the later levels, even on Hard.

Great point! The final boss, for instance, was pretty much a joke for my party (it took a while to whittle him down, but at no point was I in danger of losing) because Madora's resistances were well over 100% - which meant she could tank the boss with no problems and most of his attacks actually healed her.

130 hours including ~10 in beta + 3 playthroughs. I play fast, and subsequent playthroughs take like half the time because the game is linear, so it's still a pretty long game.

Yeah, this is one of those times the Codex proves itself to be the very same as every other gaming forum. Just fanboys who overrate things.

DOS: most overrated game in 2014. Maybe ever. nah. That's Alpha Shitocol.

God damn - this happens with every game. Initial reactions are always positive. That's the nature of experience, because when you first start, you don't see all the flaws, you just notice that you're enjoying the experience. As the game progresses, the flaws will become more apparent, and as you grow more and more comfortable with the systems, you'll notice even more. Jesus, this isn't fucking brian surgery.

Except, the truly great games remain great even with their flaws. DOS is not great.

That's right. Even after all these years, NWN1 is still just as great as it was on Day 1.

You don't have to, but it turns out it can be greatly beneficial for two reasons:

1. the totem yields a blood stone, and there are I think only 15 in the game, and you need 14 for endgame.
2. the ~5 goblins that all sell stuff - they drop a lot of merchandise when they die.
