How does taking other peoples stuff work? Is it like the Ultima's, as long as no one is in sight distance you can take stuff?

Yep. It's so easy to steal stuff and twink yourself out that part of me wishes they would change it. I don't have the spell but I guess Invisibility makes it even easier. Part of me wishes they would make invisibility work sorta like in the Elder Scroll games where if you perform an action it breaks your invisibility. The game is challenging enough though that a little leg up like this isn't 100% game breaking. I think it probably should be balanced somewhat though as only 1 point in sneaking makes it possible to steal just about every painting in town which is worth ~20k gold in my estimation.

edit2: also kindda agree with nael, it's very oldschool in that department as well... but hey, it's a small price to pay

My big problem was that 3 of the 4 enemies are healed by fire - the fire totem battle was crazy hard because of that too, as my only element is fire really. On one hand that means the fire elemental can soak up damage and distract them, but on the other hand I can't use fire terrain for crowd control and I only had a limited number of water barrels and arrows. Not to mention I swear the AI is different for the Big Bad, he just does not stay put.

I'd like to believe they forgot to set trade preferences on NPCs, it's just retarded anyone will buy anything

They should have those people logically less interested in the item to offer less as if giving you a favor for getting rid of it.

Has anyone taken any crafting? What I've gathered is that you have to invest into it heavily for it to pay off, which is then away from other skills.

    Agreed.

Only a minor problem, but still dumb.

I've heard it's a horrible skill cause u can just equip items with +crafting or some shit

It's not a minor problem, they might as well give you infinite money for reaching Cyseal

I feel that those 20k or so you get from paintings aren't worth that much in the end. Just look at how much the higher-level skill books cost.

My witch is also a dedicated crafter, but most of her crafting comes from gear. Its only use is to craft special arrows because their cost is insanely high. Otherwise, don't bother.

I'm guessing that's a problem because you don't have air magic + water magic + special stun/static cloud arrows? Because I brought everyone down easily with that.

Personally I stunned the lighthouse keeper first (static cloud) and then burned him iirc + created a static cloud barrier so he wouldn't get through. Then I focused on the fire giant, lured him a bit forward and stunned him with static cloud and then lightning, taking away most of his HP while my spider + fire summon distracted the baron of bones. My front line Cleric, meanwhile, kept Rex occupied. When the fire giant recovered from Stun, he was already at 30% of his HP; next I distracted him with my air form + fortify + elemental resistance caster, who also had 12 ap and could run away, bringing him down with my archer + casters. After that, it was a short work dealing with all the rest.

By the end of the battle for me, Rex was knocked down, blinded, and burning (though I think that was healing him up a bit maybe? i actually didn't quite get that part, but i was still doing a lot of damage regardless), with all of his minions dead. Felt good.

Thanks, that's good advice, but sadly I don't have the game yet. Was hoping for some kind of online resource like you see with every other RPG :(

    Ah! Thank you!

Crafting isn't that bad but I'd say you're better off hoarding equipment that gives +1 crafting in the homestead. Instead of investing points at level up.

You can sharpen your weapons for a boost at an anvil at least...

I got Braccus Rex's Axe and my 2h user has lone wolf so I get 18 AP after a skipped turn, double whirlwhind around a pack, so sweet.

My character sheets looks like this just now, using a Ranger template for the girl and the arrows are invaluable for CC.

If you steal everything you can then you can buy almost everything you want, which to me is a tad easy. Second playthrough I'll go without a rogueish character and see what happens.

Nothing really, you don't need a rogue to steal, and items that sell for thousands of gold in midgame are common. Money is not an issue in this game. My chars are always stocked with high level skillbooks they can't read yet.

Reload the game. From my understanding the guy that "hires" the npc is the one that have to link it to him (you cant switch unless you leave the companion in the end of time.

Some times there are issues with stats / companions not working and reloading the game a few times should fix it.

I haven't really stolen much of anything, but I noticed there is no shortage of anything either. Currency has very little value at least around Cyseal (maybe there's some new features up ahead to change that; or maybe with harder difficulties change it somehow). Most of the time you worry that your loot is worth more than the shit you want to buy (which is mostly skillbooks), and one'd - a cheapskate like me for eg. - rather not pay too much even if it might provide +attitude because the game has this lingering anticipation for the cool shit to appear to the vendors (and once it does, two things usually happen,
    1. you already have found such or better from corpses,
    2. you buy it only to notice that it becomes obsolete 10 minutes later when you find something better in the forest).

It's not a big thing, really, but a bit jarring at times.

We reloaded three times or more - the best case scenario was that the NPC was linked to me, but babitz was still controlling him.

Hmm strange could you try to send the companions to the end of time and then try to rehire them again?
