nice homage/reference I guess

some stuff from leddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/Doom/comments/1eof9mz/supposed_quakecon_dark_ages_showcase_descriptions/
Discord user rabid dentist, as well as Lavaniel on Youtube, have transcribed a private gameplay showcase of Doom, The Dark Ages. They said they we relying on memories of a video they were only able to watch once. Therefore, it is likely there are some errors:
  • There is currently no excerpt of the presentation on the web, as viewers were asked not to film it. This had already been done with DOOM (2016) at the time.
  • It was a pre-recorded video narrated by Hugo Martin, the studio's creative director.
  • This was an alpha version of the game, mixing scenes with snippets of raw gameplay.
  • The snippets shown were like extensions of the sequences shown in the announcement trailer.
  • It was made clear that the game areas are much more open than in previous games.
  • It was confirmed that there will be 3 melee weapons: a flail that allows you to collect ammunition, a mace and a fist that creates chains of electricity between enemies.
  • The saw shield allows you to transverse the map, but it can also be thrown against enemies and be recovered while it tears their flesh.
  • Green projectiles can be reflected back at enemies.
  • Verticality no longer plays an important role in the game. When the Doom Slayer jumps, it's similar to the mechanics of the power armor in Fallout 4 or Fallout 76.
  • The Glory Kill system has been completely reinvented. These are no longer programmed eliminations depending on the angle of attack. Now a small purple halo appears on the enemy, signifying that the player can execute it. Glory kills seem to be based on kicks and punches or any melee weapon, depending on the player's choice.
  • A new weapon has been shown, a type of double-barrel plasma gun. It's reminiscent of the plasma gun from the first DOOM, but with two barrels connected by a piece of metal. Both cannons fire at the same time.Another weapon was revealed, a single-barrel shotgun.
  • The nail gun shown in the first trailer, as well as the other weapons, interact perfectly with all the game's mechanics. For example, a wall was shown on which
  • everal enemies were nailed.
  • The Dragon and Altan (the big mech) can be played several times in the campaign.
  • Altan fights with his fists and a double cannon. He also has his own HUD. When he takes damage, pieces of his armor break off.
  • Altan can perform glory kills.
  • Never-before-seen enemies have been shown, while the existing ones have undergone some modifications: One of the new enemies is a strange octobrain that fired blue projectiles, and a new one is a big quadlegged cyberdemon. Arachnotrons are now more fleshy.
  • The HUD is reminiscent of DOOM Eternal.
  • No weapon or rune mods were shown.
  • The environmental narrative seems to play an important role in the game.

The no verticality thing is kind of worrying, and the change to glory kills does not fill me with confidence either.

  • World is much more open than previous games
  • Three melee weapons: Flail (collects ammunition), Mace, and Fists (creates chains of electricity)
  • The saw shield can be used to traverse the map
  • Saw Shield can be thrown at enemies
  • Less verticality than Doom Eternal; jumping is weightier and heavier now (comparable to Power Armor in FO4)
  • Glory Kill system has been reinvented
  • New weapons revealed; Double-barrel Plasma Ehotgun, Single-barrel shotgun
  • You can nail enemies to the wall with the Nail Gun
  • The giant mech can be used several times throughout the Campaign
  • The mech fights with its fists and a double cannon
  • Mech can perform Glory Kills and has a specialized HUD
fist? are we getting references like this to Heretic/Hexen and maybe even Quake instead of new games?

Behind you.
3rd entry into nuDoom and it's more of the same shooting galley shit that already got old by the end of the first one.
I lost interest in nuDoom when they didn't include co-op play. My most fond memories of OG Doom was dragging our computers over to a friend's house and playing co-op. We tried DM, but got bored with that pretty quickly, but co-op had all of us hooked. A friend of mine from those days and I both got Doom 2016 the day it came out and were pretty shocked it didn't have it. It was okay single player. I had a lot of fun with it for a few days, but never finished it.

I can still play the OG Doom and have a Hell of a good time, pardon the pun.

"Use the flail to get ammo" and I'm immediately done. I don't want to play Doom in a very specific developer designed way. I want to play it MY way and this is bullshit. They got enough negative feedback on the ammo system in eternal and they will triple down on it here because they want to make the shield and melee weapons the focus so guns will be even less stocked up. They should have just made Nu hexen or heretic and called it "Hexen : Doom's dark ages"

GloRYKill system revamp !!- hopefully we can watch awesome button invulnerability QTE's every 1 seconds now intead of 3 seconds. Medievil Shield, flails and QTE's -> exactly what comes to mind when i think Doom.

On one hand, the muh Slayer "lore" in nu-Doom was the epidome of cringe. Pure normie tier capeship slop. The writing in nu-Doom 2016 wasn't anything special but Eternal just went above and beyond with the retardation.

On the other hand, Doom Guy hasn't been turned into a pansexual stronk wombyn of color, so there's that.

Also, i assume no Mick Gordon this time around. Not that i think the guy is the greatest musical gift to gaming everybody seems to think he is, but i doubt they'll be able to get someone better. Not in current year gaming.

Ain't that the truth. Mick Gordon is thoroughly mediocre and yet better than almost any known active alternative that isn't some indie unknown. The only thing that declined almost as hard as gameplay in modern game design is music composition.

Nah they shafted Mick Gordon not that I'm a dubstep fan, maybe they will do what other AAA studios are doing and use rap music to market everything this time

They are just going to get someone to churn out a cheap imitation of Gordon's style. Most normies who play nu-Doom won't be able to tell the difference anyway.

They should just go back to aping actual metal songs. There is no one in games industry with the talent or T levels to do original. People praising the wub wub nuDoom music was further proof normies have dire taste in everything.

game industry has been pushing to normalize new AAA at 70 USD and by 2025 it will be the norm

there was not enough backlash on AAA 70 USD pricing besides people moaning bit about it

Probably because Doom falls into the AAAA category where with Vulkan pushes the limits of latest rendering methods. Not many game studios have their own game engine and stay on the top.
