I don't understand why Gaider is choosing to die on the hill of defending Veilguard, lots of people who are criticizing how this game looks loved the earlier Dragon Age games, even Inquisition, and if Veilguard goes tits up it looks great for him since it'll seem like he was the one holding it all together until he left. Even he said that Bioware didn't treat their writers very well when he was there (and then fired a bunch of senior writers after he left), he has no reason to be loyal to them now that they're going to run roughshod over something that he helped create.

It must be some sort of mid life crisis. It's really strange to see fifty year old men whining on social media about 'chuds' and 'incels' as if either term has any weight to it in this day and age. They either forgot krogan lore or "forgot", i.e decided to not include headbutting because it simulates a type of street violence that's nearly taboo in some regions (UK). Androgynomeda is a severely Disneyfied setting in itself, so maybe that was the reason. It was too edgy.

Veilguard pushes the politics he agrees with. Therefore he's obliged to praise and defend it. I really don't think there has to be any reason beyond that. Both sides of modern American politics do this, and especially the left. You can see this tribal behavior with any game that clearly aligns with that political side. Look at journalists spinning the narrative that Concord was a wonderful game that fell victim to a hate campaign, or how they're all defending the upcoming Assassin's Creed, for two recent examples.

There is a downside to that - these industry leaders appear to have believed the market would be accepting and completely woke at this time. That's why I'm guessing there have been so many catastrophic failures - these games take a long time to make, and there may have been an assumption 3-5 years ago the ticket to big, big sales was a diverse staff and ugly troon chars. It became part of the design and it's shown to have missed the mark. Biggly!

David Gaider is way off the mark on where your head should be at to produce a big seller. He's doubling down on what worked in the distant past, but its obvious his mindset is not in line with what sells. Some studio hires him, they'll get what isn't working now. Who would want that, as from all his online postings he seems unable to correct his approach?

Regardless, more on topic, Davy G and other's public meltdowns over the negative reception of the DA4 preview material shows how far gone they are. Can't understand their position in culture as dominant default corpo garbage that their main market is now rebelling against. Niche identity mobilisation as a political and cultural tool has always had a reality problem when absolute numbers of a chosen identity are low.
