The consensus is that the combat is good/fine. It’s the lack of depth, bad writing and faggotry that everyone has problems with.
It's not 'good' combat if it's only entertaining in the first few hours of a game that spans several dozens of hours, dude. If people start turning down the difficulty to skip that part of the game faster, it's NOT good.

ME3's combat was also a puddle deep, but it was entertaining as hell. Even years after ME3 was released you still had a healthy multiplayer population.
Have you played it?

astly, those people are tourists who have no idea what fantasy is actually about. This is an element that runs through millenial writing as a whole, this feeling the writer is condescending to the audience while bieng completely uninterested in the setting or medium. Millenial writing has that whole "hello, fellow kids" vibe to it.
Fukken this. Everywhere.

It makes sense when you consider that many people out there lack the capability to think critically or even process thoughts and filter them within their own head. They can only absorb and repeat what they hear, they genuinely cannot imagine a situation from a different perspective which is why fantasy is plagued by self inserts and modern day real world thinking even where it doesn't fit.

Add in the crazy role-players and supposed 'fans' of any given setting who drive off anyone who actually likes the darker elements and you end up with a sanitised mess.

Bad fantasy is born out of bad storytelling, and bad storytelling is born out of cozy middle class white americans without real life experience outside their suburbanite hellholes. Make them pick up a shovel and they slowly but surely become better writers.

Why do they feel the inescapable urge to add niggers and trannies in fucking nearly every piece of media and literature?

The dialogue looks almost 1:1 to the kind of social media lingo used by teenage girls and young adults, with some modern idpol flavor on top. I'm surprised that so far there hasn't been a single "y'all" in the dialogue.
"My face is tired from dealing with all of this right now."
(This is how they talk in the Bioware writing room, and nowhere else)

Is Taash actually a pretty accurate representation of how a troon acts?
Insufferable, smug, narcissistic.
Furthermore, overly aggressive and with serious issues.
Cannot deal with those issues and instead blames others for not accepting and acknowledging "its" uniqueness...

Holy shit, Bioware, PEAK character design.

Progressives are deeply mentally ill and have a deep sense of self loathing that is twisted into a preference for other groups beyond one's own 'tribe'. So when it isn't just an outright self insert, they flood fantasy settings with anything that isn't a fair skinned European.

I don't even mind when there's a genuinely compelling exotic locale in a fantasy game, though progressives are terrible at world building as well and can't help themselves. So every fantasy nation ends up as some strange blob where the demographics are the same as any modern day big city.

Then it's just a matter of layers of rot. Sometimes it's just surface level. Other times you'll see utterly ridiculous design choices such as elves and dwarves with 'diverse features'. Men are often feminine or androgynous. Women are often masculine or androgynous.

The best way to deal with them is to treat them with the same disdain as, say, cockroaches. Laugh at them. Make them fear you. Humiliate them. Drive them away. Shun them, utterly - and of course don't give them your money. Continue holding the line and we'll see a return to proper fantasy just as every other period of progressive horror has inevitably fizzled out one way or another.

Perhaps most importantly, though? Don't tolerate subversion. In any way, shape or form. Men should be masculine, confident and strong. Women should be feminine, attractive and motherly. There's a tiny bit of room for exceptions here and there but you don't want much at all - that just paves the way for the disgusting man-women or effete, androgynous twigs that pass for the typical 'male lead' in JRPG's like in that new Atlus game.

I think it's really simple: if you consider yourself an activist, then your writing will necessarily be heavily skewed towards promoting a message instead of telling a story.

IOW, the mental space required for one pushes out the other, more or less.

If you're a great writer, like Orwell or Brecht say, then it can work, but if you don't have that creative headroom, if you're just an okay writer who could have done a decent job as an activist OR as a teller of a good story, you're fucked, you won't be able to do both.

(Just to expand on that slightly, a story has internal logic that comes from the characters and their motivations; the logic of a piece of activism is external, ideological, the characters are merely exemplars of ideals.)

Engaging with them on any issue is a hopeless endeavour.
Instead, be a generous man and offer them this:

Disclaimer: I know very little about DA, just the basics, such as what in general is the Blight, Fade, etc.

So, there's a scene in Veilgaurd where Rook and company find Solas' lyrium dagger. They look at it for a few seconds and Harding decides to push Rook (who is also a dwarf btw) away and go and grab it herself.
I'm not asking about what happened next, I'm asking what made her act this way. Again: no spoilers please.

1) Since the wiki tells me that processed lyrium is safe for anyone to touch, why did Harding go out of her way to make sure she's the one who picks it up? Did I miss anything about the dagger? Was it known to be dangerous or possibly dangerous and she just wanted to protect the rest of the team?
2) Since I don't actually know: is the lyrium dagger made with processed lyrium or unprocessed? Or does no one knows and maybe that's why Harding grabbed it, since dwarves are more resistant to unprocessed lyrium?
3) Am I simply missing something about the intel the team had about the dagger?

Again, please: no spoilers, not even a hint. Just wanna know some facts that one would know at that point of the game. I really don't get why Harding acted that way and just want to know why. Seemed very stupid, but I'd rather give the writers some benefit of the doubt (I know, I know...). If it's just "writers were being stupid", so be it. I just want to be sure, because maybe it's my lack of knowledge of the universe or maybe I missed something.
Someone add this asshole to the list
I know you guys at these forums are extremely assholish in general, but can you at least explain what I did wrong?
You bought or pirated a shit game. Dont be a enabler of decline.

Now, time to barve.
I would recommend using your brain instead of being a mindless drone, though. Play the game first before you judge it - that's the sensible thing to do. But I know you mindless drones refuse to use your brains, so I don't expect you to wisen up. Anyway, offtopic, so fuck off from the thread.
Did you also suck a kilometer of dick to figure out if you're a fag or not?

So when Bioware fired 50 writers last year, they kept saying it would have no effect on Dragon Age because "the writing was already finished".

But you look at this game now and realize the writing barely exists at all. So probably what happened was Bioware writers came up with a bare bones plot for the game, and the EA manager decided that was good enough, they didn't need to spend more money on "expensive narrative".

What's in the game now looks like low level interns padding the basic plot with filler dialogues. They probably read some basic summary of the lore just to write around it, and in the end were told to destroy all of it so they don't have to be constrained by that again.

What this means is that the entire decision making process at Bioware is no longer centered around making a deep RPG game, and there's probably nobody left who even knows how to do that. Mass Effect 5 is not looking good.

Maybe Exodus from Archetype will be good, but it's unclear if it's even an RPG. All the trailers are generic cinematics and no gameplay.

If I'd say yes, what does that change about the actual consensus about the combat being "it's fine but boring" and not "it's good combat"? Don't move your goal posts.
The consensus is that the combat is good, fine, fun, satisfying, enjoyable or whatever adjective people choose to use. That’s not my opinion. That’s the opinion of others. We had someone in this thread who played the game say the same thing. I’m not moving my goal posts. You’re arguing semantics.

Have you played it? I’d be curious to hear your personal thoughts on it instead of “akshually.”

It takes a special kind of retard nonsense masquerading as "writing" to make it so bad that people think the DOGSHIT gameplay in Veilguard is a positive by comparison.

Does the hottie from DA2, who is now a pajeeta, have a peacock feather tail?
That's some weird ass recurring character design theme they have there. Even a brutally looking thug boss (non-binary though lmao) has them for some reason. And any Antiva faction character afaik.
