Only if you make the male character effeminate, which is gay and tranny.

Otherwise, creating a male character who represents yourself IRL is the only correct option. It's not gay to look at myself.
Nailed it.
but the rationale behind it is that if it's a third person shooter you might as well look at a woman's ass for hours than a man's one.
I remember seeing that excuse for dudes creating a female night elf in World of Warcraft. "hur hur, I'd rather look at a chicks ass for 1000 hours"

No because you're looking at a male butt which is considered gay whether he is masculine or not.
Stop looking at your characters ass, homo.

Seeing a lot of dudes create women characters. Do guys normally do this in RPGs and romance the men?
Noooo don't start it! It's even worse than the 'what is an rpg' discussion!
I stepped in the shit and didn't realize it. My bad.

I just don't understand the logic. You either romance dudes (you're a faggot) or you romance other women (you approve faggotry). It's a lose lose choice IMO.
To sum it up:
  • You're gay if you make a girl character because you're being a girl which is a gay act
  • You're gay if you make a boy character because you have to look at a male character model and looking at boys is gay
So you're gay no matter what you do depending on who you ask. Only way to win is to not make a character at all.

I don't know about romance, to me that is the gayest thing of all to do in a video game no matter which character you make.
If you play a female and romance a male you're the gayest faggot in the universe and that is a FACT.
Yes but that's not a large leap. I made this helpful diagram to illustrate

Yes, and also tranny.

No because you're looking at a male butt
Here's two reasons why I'm not:

1. My character isn't naked.
2. I'm not actively looking at my character at all, but rather at the world in front of him.

RPG gender decision making process

Do you expect there will be romance?
-If No, create a female so you can look at boobs and butts while you play.
-If Yes, do you expect there will be lesbian romance?
--If Yes, create a female so you can look at boobs and butts while you play and still romance women.
--If No, create a male so you can romance women.
My exact thought process before every 3rd person RPG.

Fucking nailed it.

Schwartze-skinned unterpersonn, bitte.

The obvious solution is to not do any of that "romance" crap alltogether! :rpgcodex:

Romance in games was a mistake and a waste of resources. Same thing for companions. At least they offer some gameplay benefits so not 100% useless.
It really depends. Romance in games tends to do nothing interesting, amounting to another fetch quest. If it furthers a thoughtful narrative or gameplay mechanic it's cool, but what we get these days has evolved from "bring 15 flowers to the troubled girl so you can fix her" to "bring 15 pronouns to the muscle mommy so you can fix her gender and she scolds you until you coom" apparently.

We went from writers in games listing off their favorite Russian realist authors like Anton Chekhov to writers in games extolling Marvel and how many Current Day interest groups they can stuff into a game about wizards

I think the initial day 1 purchase sales can't make a game a success.
But that's the metric mainstream media looks at. Nobody cares if Underrail is an indie darling or a sleeper hit, Baldur's Gate 3 was a massive success because it sold like hotcakes in spite of it being a genre people are supposed to hate. It's sort of what happened to Legend of Grimrock when it came out: it's a game people think they despise, but since they sold it as a shiny new little thing, people went to it en masse.

But these are still sales over month or the whole year that make it a success. It gets sold over word of mouth, youtube videos, reviews from players, streamers, foren, real engagement in social media that discusses the essence of the game and qualiity. Not launchtrailers.
Games are released in a weekend window because they really rely on the initial hit of a day one purchase, surely they can congratulate themselves over x copies sold in a year, but i'd say half of what makes a game a success is based upon that first weekend. It can make it or break it. See Concord. They killed that game just because it didn't sell over two or three days after release.
Sure BG3 was a success at launch. But that's also part of because it's a quality game.
BAAAAAASSSSEEEEEEDDDDDDDD!!

Knew you loved my game, even my biggest haters will become my fans as foretold by the great chud prophecy.
Sorry kid, but I had to uninstall the game in the big goblin castle already.

Whats with this GIRLS SHIT, that you could skip every combat encounter, just by rolling a 1 or 2 because of your worm in the brain? Is this supposed to be a crutch for journos bad at games? That was, besides the cringe and bad dialogue writing, just horrendous and mindbaffeling bad.

Anyway this is a great find

The troons are waking up...

This game is unironically better than Inquisition btw
I haven't played, and have only seen the clips being selected for me to see (thus, probably the worst the game has), but it still looks better than Andromeda.

Same style of aaaaawkwwaaaard well that just happened Big Bang Theory writing, but Bioware got better at it.
However, in Inquisition they still weren't doing as much of it. So I'd say Inquisition was better in its dialogue than the Veilguard dialogue I see in clips.

This clip. JFC.
:backawayslowly:

Suvi & Kallo. Bioware has had a boner for the finns since Origins.

If you want the real answer though, it is that some people view customizable player characters as self-inserts who represent them and other people view them as just the character that they are controlling.

Since most people tend to believe that other people think like they do, that can cause some disconnect for people who view them as self-inserts when they see other people just viewing them as characters that they are controlling. So they might think some dude creating and playing a female character must want to be a female or something like that.

[No DAV Spoilers] I’m Incredibly Indifferent about DAV…

Holy crap. The armor system being compared to a mobile game is so perfect.

I kept thinking - gosh this feels like such a reduction of a console/pc rpg equipment system.

I also loathe most of the armor designs. They come off plastic on ps5.

No, they didn't make any choices afraid of the online backlash. They included the most polarizing culture war topics in their game. If they were afraid of online backlash they would have not added a trans option in character creation.

r/Dragonage has completely turned on this game

Not buying or playing this but I read the spoilers and to say this is a “return to form” for BioWare should be grounds for execution. Holy fuck is everything in DAV revealed as “the elves did it”?

The Black City, the central mystery of the setting? Merely the prison Solas created for the elf gods and the Blight.
The Blight itself? Created by the elf gods after they tranquilized the Titans from the cut off dreams of the Titans.
The Old Gods? FUCKING ELVES AGAIN! Revealed as Horcruxes for the elf gods.
Also Elves are actually spirits taken mortal form!
Andraste was a Mythal host like Flemeth, there is no Maker.

Guess they realized this might be their last game because wtf would they even do with DA5 given they answered all of the major mysteries of the setting in the gayest way possible.

They knew there would be backlash about the trans stuff and they wanted there to be backlash about it. That way the developers can feel stunning and brave.

The real question is whether the senior EA executives want to be stunning and brave and view all this backlash as positive affirmation of their stunning bravery, or if they want to have a game that is well received by the audience and view it as mistake.

Wait, they destroyed Ferelden and Orlais?

They fucking hate this setting and all prior entries to the series, don't they?

The great reset was the easiest way out of their burden. Then there's other potential reasons for it like the fact that only a few of them at best have ever played Origins and liked it, and how many of them have been manipulated into thinking Origins is some kind of atavistic relic of ultra-sexist, uninclusive and racist game design. And finally, many of them probably wished to do away with Origins's legacy so that their own puerile work would be treated as "canon" if there ever would be another DA that continues from where tVG left off.

It's cultural parasitism. Like all that came out of postmodernism really. They took over universities, but they'll be cleansed eventually. Nature always finds a way.

It's 'The long march through the institutions'. The right have never been as good at it, which is why the old enemy always returns in absence of vigilance.

My advice to BioWare going forward with the DA franchise if EA even allows them to make more - remake/remaster DA:O. Fix its combat issues (maybe even make it TB?), expand on the various stories which were left hanging or cut (especially stuff to do with Loghain and Orlais [and no, Corinne, Loghain isn't trans]), add 1-2 more origins (Dalish mage and/or human commoner) and promise the next DA would follow this formula more closely than the last 3 entries. This would give the devs much needed experience with how to create a game like DA:O in the future while providing them an already almost finished game which most people like for a much needed boost in revenue.

Can you imagine current Bioware remastering/remaking Origins? It's best that you don't even whisper such things. Taking the camera's focus away from Miranda's ass would seem like an anteroom before the big top's all-out circus.

They've cut Bioware so much slack compared to all the legendary studio's they axed in the past. Sims 4 has probably made more than this game this year.

EA seems to need Bioware for something. Something that's not profit.

They learned from Andromeda, which everyone hated.

Now you can't hate on this game without also hating all the extra diversity.

Pretty standard playbook moves from AAA. We've been seeing this for years, but Purpleguard is such a stinker even it's hardcore defender fanbase is abandoning it. Just look at reddit.
