I think you'd barely notice hard mode if you switched to it in NG+ and stayed in the main game. It's mostly about earlier stuff one-shotting you in a hard-mode-from-level-1 game (nothing like getting instantly killed by a regular goblin's jumping attack) and late stuff in BBI still being able to 2-shot you even if you're wearing BBI super armor.

Aww, shit. This is one of the games were a little mod intervention, just some number tweaking, could do wonders.
Still I was under the impression that Hard mode would be noticeable in high level NG+, when double xp just means less grinding (instead of oops level 35 reached) but double damage and increased stamina drain still matter...

I guess that's not a huge pain in the ass, but I thought there might be some loadout swap button or something like a lot of games have.

Really hoping someone mods in some better hotkeys. I'd love to habitually use stuff like thrown skulls/oil to inflict status effects but having to hold via menu every time is not tolerable. Or having rusty/aneled weapon swap-in without menufucking.

I think DD might be the game where I'm let down by what modders do, though, when before it's always been a thing where I was glad to expect nothing and get something. For one, I think the PC port has had a much bigger "internet forum" footprint than it has had actual sales.

I vaguely remember playing Dragon's Dogma fairly extensively several years ago, one of the very few Blu-Ray player PS3 games I've played. Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, and Dragon's Dogma are some of the exceptions I've made to the "fuck consoles" rule, although sadly the latter two have since been released for PC, so I should have just waited.

I also vaguely remember that Rift Crystals shitfest, where you had to upload your Pawns up for "rent" in order to receive Rift Crystals. I actually browsed GameFAQs or some other cancerous site to find a network of Dragon's Dogma "friends" who'd rent and use each other's pawns and make a lot of Rift Crystals that way, so I had tons of them, but it was an annoying hassle. Only certain types of pawns were considered optimally useful, if I recall correctly, so you'd have to stick with what was popular if you wanted rentals. Furthermore, I remember that Capcom sold Rift Crystals in a cash shop also.

I'm considering picking up Dark Arisen for PC, a proper format, but how do Rift Crystals work now? Is it still obnoxiously cancerous? I, again, vaguely recall that one of the DLCs gives you "1 million free Rift Crystals" or some such bullshit.

Edit: Disregard question, confirmed for still cancerous.

Might get this on 80% off sale at some point, in that case.

What I meant was that had I known they would be released for PC, I never would have bought the console versions.

I thought I made myself pretty clear on that point, newfag. Is "fuck consoles" somehow ambiguous to you?

There isn't much you actually buy with rift crystals in the main game (there is AFAIK only one little RC shop, and you generally only buy these potions used to mess with your main pawn's AI there). In BBI (the expansion area) where you do spend a lot of it, chests/enemies drop enough rift crystals to get by. I'm the only one of my steam friends that plays it much, my pawn isn't a female mage heal+buffbot that is the easiest rent, and I've had enough RC between BBI drops and public rentals.

Mmmh I'm level 43 and nearing end-game. Should I do BBI or rush to the end and go NG+ on hard mode? I'm finding many fights far too easy...
End-game meaning you're about to confront the Dragon? If so,
you might as well fight the Dragon before doing BBI.

I always play off-line, meaning I've never received rift crystals from other players using my main Pawn, but I've never had a problem with making essential purchases using rift crystals. There are many vanity products sold for rift crystals, but you should earn enough to cover inclination potions, the non-consumable item that allows you to alter the appearance of your character and Pawn, and restoring broken Riftstones in Bitterblack Isle. If you're still wanting for rift crystals, the lower noticeboard in the Pawn Guild gives a series of quests to find Badges of Vows in various locations around Gransys, and each one awards RCs.

I've hired a friend's pawn and she's disappeared for no discernible reason twice now and I'm pretty certain she hasn't died, unless she walked off a cliff without me noticing. Nothing too annoying since I can just rehire her for free, but anyone else had something similar happen?
Stepped into BBI after a quick tour of the Everfall because there's not much point in spending too much time there with the expansion. Said friend said he's done with the game for now (he originally beat the base game on console) and I told him he really doesn't want to miss out on BBI, hope he heeds my advise.

They aren't selling them on PC, at least not to my knowledge. My Pawn wasn't rented once on the PS3, though I only started playing the game in 2014. On the PC my Pawn wasn't rented either, not for the longest time, but as soon as I reached level 70 or so (I played on Hard and completed all sidequests, so reached 70 after beating Dragon) he started getting rented like mad, for hundreds of thousands of Rift Crystals at a time - the greatest bounty was 500k Rift Crystals from a single renter. At lower levels I imagine it is hard to get rented because there is a flood of low level Pawns, but considering the greater numbers of players on PC now, having your Pawn summoned once he reaches high level shouldn't be an issue as long as he is not Guardian, nor Scather in the case of a Ranger, Sorcerer or Mage class.

Twice now I have watched idiot pawns jump into deep water and die instantly. It does happen.

I've had them get belted off cliffs/buildings like a baseball by cyclops a few times. It's both funny and annoying. Especially if you can't get to them and you just have to listen to them whine about dying for 5 minutes or whatever. It's too bad they don't have a "thank you for your service :salute:" button. ;)

Oh look Blaine decides to trade in 4chan for a minute to post on the Codex. Exactly the same way as everyone posts on 4chan.

What in the name of the Lord are you on about? Maybe you rike Dlagon Dawma vely much and I hult yoh fee-fees?

I've been using my Codex time posting in proper ROLE-PLAYING GAME threads such as the Underrail thread, not shamefur Nihon akshunu Famitsu gamu section like some kind of a little faggot or cringy Codex attention whore. Can't even express a negative opinion about a game I've played extensively without some weeaboo sperging about 4chan because I repost a resposted maymay from there once or twice a week.

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
There's a mod to replace the English voice overs with the Japanese ones. Improved my experience a lot, not the the dialog is great but at least now it's delivered in a way that makes it impossible for me to tell how shit the voice acting is. Also the pawns endless babble is now just background bakanas.

Spent 45 mins fighting the tentacles :negative: used up all my healing items and a resurrect stone.

This has a slight chance of improving butthurt :troll: I approve!

What sort of pawn are you using Dreaad? I suppose since you're going physical it's a support healbot like mine?

Edit: My pawn finished the game before me  she already knows about all the end game quests

Great youtube series from the guy that developed Volgarr the Viking:

He certainly makes normal mode w/ restrictions look much more fun than hard mode. I could never knock over a troll in hard mode with anything less than super endgame shit.

Damn, he's got that chimera fight down pat. I vaguely remember fighting that battle myself now that I've watched it.

I really appreciate the detail that went into that fight, with the different heads doing different things (serpent spewing poison cloud, goat's head casting Hellish magic, and the lion's head doing the obvious), the obligatory severing of the serpent's head, the leaping and knockdown animations, but especially how the goat's head lolls around limply once it's been killed while the injured chimera continues fighting. That part's great.

Finished BBI and now I can't muster any desire to fire up the game again. The only progression that remains is farming the top BBI gear, which feels kinda pointless.
