I liked the combat difficulty on Hard in the leaked version, but I didn't even convert it and started a new one on normal. The amount of XP and gold is just insane, makes the game unbalanced. I was level 30 with more than a million in gold shortly after reaching gran soren, and I didn't farm or anything.
Then I looked at what it actually does, and I'll just save it for NG+.
http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/SleepActually found something that killed an ogre pretty much instantly: sleep + a charity purse thingy. Throwing it while they're awake did piddly damage, but when asleep, BOOM DEAD. I guess sleep status = 0 defense or something?
While asleep, the afflicted will take double damage from the next blow they receive. Sleep is a temporary Status Ailment and lasts only 20 seconds
Without having tried the PC version yet, just wanted to say this game was pretty fantastic overall. It really deserves a proper Codex review, JRPG or not.
The pawns don't get the same penalties, so they're pretty overpowered, no? It certainly felt that way, I had a mage who lasted more in combat than my character. The gold doesn't really unbalance the game on hard mode so much as it gives you greater freedom to experiment with different weapons and outfits as well as improve said items at a faster rate. There are also other, possibly spoiler-worthy money sinks that you'll find yourself wanting the money for.
Same with the exp, to the extent that the endgame maps, including BBI, will necessitate on hard mode that you have the best gear and be at the highest levels.
I'd say stick with it a bit longer if you can.
I'd like to write about the game, as I'm enjoying it far more than I expected. I'll give it a shot after my first playthrough. It'd be cool if someone reviewed it for the Codex, for sure. (Hint: we accept review submissions!)
This means it's a standard RPG. Offline MMO with crappy controls is a definition of a standard RPG.I dunno, so far it plays like an offline MMO with crappy controls and QTE elements. Does it get better later on?
I honestly don't know how you could possibly say this. Have you actually played the game at all for more than 2 minutes?I dunno, so far it plays like an offline MMO with crappy controls and QTE elements. Does it get better later on?
My advice is not to treat Dragon's Dogma as an Open World game. If you run around open areas without the direction provided by quests, then you'll run the risk of fighting the same trash mobs over and over again and becoming bored with the game (I almost fell into this trap early in my first playthrough). Instead, proceed with the main quest and follow up on the opportunity to complete optional side quests (aside from the billboard's escort quests, since escort quests are always irritating and only a few of them have rewards that are worth the trouble). The main quest alone takes you to the large majority of the game's locations, and a few major sidequests fill in the rest. I think dungeon-crawling is more fun in this game than overland exploration, anyway, and for the dungeon-crawling you need to follow up quests.Gimme some direction toward fun. I've run around some in this large open area west of the starting town but everytime I take a step I'm like, I'm going to have to take that step in the opposite direction through another meat wall of 90 hobgoblins to get back.
The core seems awesome but I am getting open-worlditis where it's like everything I could do would be equivalent so why do I care. Risen/Gothic generally give you direction in open worlds by killing you when you are in the wrong place and by making it so there is zero respawning, so every area you fight in is an area that's clear at least for the rest of the chapter.
You MIGHT be able to buy them from the Black Cat.Men, I went to Watergod's Temple before taking the quest, is it safe for me to drop Altar Slates that I've found in the area and return later or should I lug them around until I take the quest, thanks
Did you access the main inventory through the start (or whatever) menu? Quick inventory (on the PS3 that was select) doesn't show everything, I think. So ... I'm starting the game ... I bought a bunch of armor at the first shop, my gold is definitely gone, I made sure my vocation could equip it, but I can't find it anywhere in my inventory. What's up?
I went to the Equipment section of the main menu by pressing Start. Later I also found the Select menu. Neither one has my stuff.Did you access the main inventory through the start (or whatever) menu? Quick inventory (on the PS3 that was select) doesn't show everything, I think. So ...
