I've been thinking this since the first screenshots but held back on commenting since it feels needlessly negative but... doesn't this whole thing reek of being a major mod/minor expansion? The engine and models look virtually identical. A 4x bigger world sounds nice, and the presentation and writing is certainly a splash of clean water after the garbage we're being fed elsewhere, but it still seems like a huge wasted opportunity to me that they're only cashing in on because everyone kept demanding a sequel. This really should have come out like... 8 years ago, if it was going to just be "Dragon's Dogma verbatim, looks the same, with more content".

More content, simplified systems and modern Zeitgeist.

Yeah we've all more or less interpreted it as 'the same dragon's dogma as if it had more of a budget the first time around'. I also don't think people ITT or elsewhere really cares. We'd rather hope for a more refined experience rather than wonder what if this was a tech upgrade and so on. It's less of a re-make or a traditional sequel-upgrade and more of a re-take.

I don't mind more DD 1, it just seems like a huge degree of mismanagement to miss their window of when a sequel that looked practically the same would have had maximum impact. It's like if DOS2 came out 10 years after DOS1.

i'd add that the mismanagement is that this is like DD3. DD2 was actually DDO, the game japan refused to export.

The answer has been almost unanimously in approval of it being the exact same game than the first one, because the first one is already pretty unique.

I think they're making the game that they wanted to make in the original.

Game looks like a rehash of dragon dogma same like how resident evil 4 remake was the same shit but in re engine. Is it going to be more then action game nostalgia slop in re engine is the question.

I hope the lack of equipment slots is just for the demo, otherwise big decline.
unlikely tbh. none of this reads like a wip, and if they decided to unify slots into torso/legs then thats a lot of work baked into the assets. its not just a sure thing, i think its unlikely to revert at this point.

Dedicated heal/stamina potion button = :incline:
Looks cool but why couldn't they have L1 and R1 both be separate shortcuts for different assigned skills on the face buttons? That way you could have 8 active skills that are mapped. Eh maybe someone can mod that.

My guess would be the thinking was to make things more universal, and because Vocations seem to be one thing now. Like with the Strider you had two things, and you had three Skills on each of those things. But now the Strider has been split into two classes. It also seems like the Vocation Actions might not use stamina.

It could essentially still function in a similar way too. Like holding the Shield button could modify your normals to be attacks where you’re attacking from behind your shield or with your shield instead of your normal attacks. A lot of your Shield Skills from the first game might just be normal attacks and combos now while holding the Vocation Action button. Springboard might simply work by someone jumping off of you while your Shield is up. Who fucking wants Springboard taking up a Skill slot anyways? Doing attacks out of the Thief’s Swift Step (which seems to be a cross between the Strider’s Sprint and Forward Roll that doesn’t use Stamina) could give you different a different set of attacks. Maybe doesn’t, but it seems like something they’d do.

There could be some other stuff going on too. In the first game the Forward Roll was a Strider skill, but now we’re seeing the Fighter do it. Maybe they just moved it over to the Fighter because of the Thief’s Swift Step. But it could also mean a more freeform skill system.

Equipment System

I’m not even sure what that person’s point is. Pants and Undershirts didn’t have their own slots in the first game either. They were just under Torso and Legs. I’d assume that’s how it’ll work in this game too. It is weird there’s no Arms slot, but that could also just be the Shield slot. You didn’t have a Shield slot in the original game, and shields are class specific; (only two of the nine vocations in the original game had shields) so unless you can mix and match things, having a whole slot just for shields seems weird. Otherwise, you’ve got the same amount of equipment slots as you do in the first game. My guess is the names are just a demo thing.

Gloves/Arms could still be their own thing since they’ve shown two different armor sets for the Thief with the same gloves on.

They did not have separate slots but you could have clothing and armor at the same time.
