Miyazaki has said on multiple occasions that his biggest inspiration in game design is the Wizardry series.

Funny...
Because I remember from a Vaati video, that supposedly it was ICO which had the biggest influence on Miyazaki
Specifically that it was what "awaked" him to the possibilities of the medium as an artform

Can you play using the -DX11 command line parameter? Or Is there a DX11 toggle in the settings menu?
No, a streamer named Lance Mcdonald already tried it and he said it doesn't work. What might work is disabling Windows Control Flow Guard, it's helped with stuttering in other DX12 games.

Be that as it may, if you take a look at From's own Shadow Tower, you'll recognize much of the same approach to storytelling, design, atmosphere that you see in Dark Souls. And there is for sure some of Wizardry's blood to that game, and you could for sure call both Shadow Tower and its sequel artistic, and do so unironically.

The weakest and strongest of current gen consoles, Xbox Series S and X, are quite similar when it comes to performance (not accounting for resolution difference, of course). Series S even gets more praise than X. But it's crazy that the game performs almost the same on both, and can't hit stable 60 on any of the new consoles. Luckily, Xbox has VRR which can help a lot. If the PC version turns out to be terrible performance-wise, I'm refunding and getting it on Xbox instead. No game is worth going through stuttering, no matter how good.

PS4 version doesn't look god awful. Seems serviceable for a console peasant such as myself.

DX12 is just shit. If history is anything to go by all the even number direct x's suck ass. DX6, DX8, DX10. they all sucked ass. I bet this "Lance McDonald" didn't know that. he's too busy shutting off important Windows fuctions!

The PC situation is also worth clarifying. As it currently stands the PC version using the latest 1.02 patch has a number of issues that will affect all hardware configurations on all graphical settings presets. Elden Ring is From Software's first foray into low-level APIs on PC and the game uses DirectX 12. As we have seen in other DX12 titles, there can be severe and distracting frame-time stuttering issues.

First there are stutters of up to 250 milliseconds in length when new effects, enemies, and areas appear on screen. These types of stutter lessen as the play experience goes on and enemies, areas, and effects are revisited by the player. A second and more pervasive stutter appears to be tied to loading new game areas - when traversing the terrain, moving from one area to the next can cause minor one-off frame drops a few times a minute, or at worst, tumbling frame-time issues that drop the frame-rate from a steady 60 into the 40s.

Variable refresh rate monitors using G-Sync or Freesync help alleviate a level of the distracting nature of some of these issues, but leaning on the technology is not a good situation in light of how the console versions do not suffer from these stutters. Other issues to note are the lack of ultrawide screen support, no support for frame-rates above 60fps, and unintuitive graphical options that lack visible scaling. As we have seen with other titles suffering from similar issues such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Halo Infinite, it could be sensible to wait for further patches before investing time into the PC version of Elden Ring.

So all in all, it's a bit of a mixed bag for Elden Ring right now on all platforms. Many of these issues could and should be fixed in future updates, and we hope that From Software are able to bring the game's performance to a level befitting the rest of the title's quality. We'll go into more depth in future videos and articles, so stay tuned.

Do you guys think DXVK could help here? In the past, it turned some games from unplayable to smooth on my AMD system.
Another game performance ruined by neglecting windows 7 and being dx 12 only.
Gee,if only there was a well known vulcanic alternative,hm?

I never know with that retarded Kwan time notation....CET Feb 12 - 12:00 AM means in about four hours right? Not next day noon?

Goddamn Kwans, why can't they adopt the 24 hour format like all normal people have done, including their own military.

It's said in the steam page that the patch download is available, but I couldn't find a way to download it. Anyone got lucky?

Dear God. Also props to ACG for being transparent.

I'm starting to get worried. My PC already is at the lower end of the requirements, so bad optimization could be my death blow. I really don't want to drive to the store tomorrow to get the PS4 version :despair:

Fromsoft games being horribly optimized at launch is pretty much a given at this point. I would actually be amazed if the day 1 patch addresses most of the issues, but making things worse is unexpected. Time for a day 2 patch!

PC gamer has the opposite experience with the patch though...

Only a few hours before we'll be able to tell for ourselves....

Don't visit twitch.com ... they fucked up again and almost all streamers are playing the game.
