Question regarding Radahn:

I just reached him and it seems that I can only see 3 npcs. Does that mean I have missed other quests from npcs I cannot fully see?

Is there anywhere to buy/farm standard upgrade materials? I think I'm pretty far into the game but I want to try out some other weapons, even the simple +1 upgrade stones seem quite rare though.

you can get Miners Bell Clearing (x) as Item. Give it to the two shop maidens in the hold and they start selling the stones. the first one you get in Raya Luceras Crystal Dungeon, dont know about the others and dont know how many items there are. You can get two kinds one for normal and one for somber stones. the bearings always give you two stones levels so the first allows you to buy 1 and 2

Is there a trick to getting ontop of the tall rocky plateau that is in the bottom left part of the Liurnia of the Lakes map? The cliffs are very steep and there doesn't seem to be a slope going up, nor a horse jump spring.

I tried circling it everywhere, checking the bottom of the cliffs for tunnels boring upwards but didn't find any of those either.

Is that place gated behind a teleport or game progression?

It's part of a long late game side quest which involves gaining access to several secret areas. The quest starts at:

Witch Ranni's tower which is in the north west area of the Lakes.

got sick of Astel's grab attack so I re-spec'd to have 40 VIG in exchange for minimum weapon requirements and the game is a lot more fun now

This should be spoilered mate.

Also I might have an idea about the others:

Rested at the the Isolated Merchant Shack in northern Caelid, woke up and was invaded by something called "Bell Bearing Hunter". Unfortunately I was doing chip damage with my +7 katanu, while he just straight up one-shot me, with 25 Vigor.

Guessing this is a very late game invader. Think I'm coming back in 50 more levels, with a +15 weapon at least, to stand a chance.

Got to Raya Lucaria. The game runs like molasses now. Not sure if it's the area or today's patch. It's not just low fps, the movement speed of animations and everything going on slows down too. Never had this before over ~50 hours of playtime.

Went to fight the dragon next to the key and I had 24-25 fps for most of the fight...

If this persists, I can't play the game. There was this Boreal Knight type of fucker next to the Lucaria main gate when I went back there, I can't dodge this shit at 30 fps with half a second of input lag.

Fucking FromSoft, man. How can you make the best game in years and years and shit all over it like this?

HAHAHA, i killed the Tree Sentinel, at SL1.

I figured out there was no point sparring with it once he started using those shield attacks. The hit box is just too random, so i just kept my distance and got close only when he did his regular attacks. Took a bit but it actually went down quite easily that way.

Radahn down after an ungodly number of attempts - still fewer than Margit took, though. Took me long until I realized I could summon all NPCs at once. Not that any of them were particularly great on their own, wolf boy still did most of their work. Phew...

Some protips:

Employ your horse well. Use it to lure his attacks away from the NPCs and then run in with a leap attack when you get the chance. Dismounting at speed will allow you to leap over his shockwave attacks if you ride towards him and dismount at the right time.

Going for the head stab is probably not worth it when he gets staggered - the timing is tight, and the damage isn't amazing. Most likely better to just poke at his feet/horse.

Once he summons his meteors, I just didn't get close to him until he launched them. You may wish to make use of weapon buffs at this point. Fire seemed to work well.

As for ashes of war, I found the phalanx daggers to work great since they deal good stagger damage and you'll have plenty of time to cast them while the boss is flailing about. The damage windows are tight so you want all the bonus damage you can get.

Or you can ...
just roll into him and chop him like a retard. No tactics needed (tm).

So, to test some things, I made a backup of my save, respecced into a mostly pure sorcerer and almost max upgraded the moon katana I had with the somber stones which I never used and reserved for when I'd want to try one of these unique weapons.
Despite being split damage, it does excellent damage and my character feels as if it had never respecced from pure dex. I'm coming to the conclusion that being pure physical in this game is pointless, since I'm just as good in melee and now I have some utility and ranged attacks that are better than resorting to the bow.

That moon katana's weapon arts are also really good. I always preferred the unsheathe that comes with the Uchigatana but replaced it to get the Keen improvement of adding a weapon art to it for better scaling, and the moon katana has the same art, but enhanced with magic effects that add more reach to it. The art's R2 was always the fastest attack you could use among the "stance breaking" types (starting with the katana, I think, is partly why I didn't rage at margit the way others did here) and the art's R1 allows you to close the gap very quickly with enemies and safely attack them.

I'll stick with this test and delete the backups \o/ if you're a Katana user and found this weapon, don't bother with DEX.
There's another katana that also seems pretty good and focuses on arcane if you're more into that thing.

Yeah, you spend an hour earning the amount of runes you'd get in twenty minutes and a weapon you'll be able to use in another 20 hours at the earliest.

Not judging tho, I've spent an hour fighting the Night Cavalry at lvl 5.

It's about the challenge obviously, not the loot.
But if you:
kept my distance and got close only when he did his regular attacks
Did you really overcome the challenge?

I'd say that 90% of the enemies in these games can be cheated by keeping your distance and only attacking them when they use a specific move. With Gwyn in DS1 it's the kick/grab, with Isshin in Sekiro it's the big jump, etc...

Still, even with a semi-cheesy tactic like that, defeating the Tree Sentinel as soon as you encounter him is no easy feat.

Console peasants vs PC chads who can easily remap any key.

Oh shoosh, I was able to turn it off. I can't surprise fuckers anymore but it's a trade off I'm willing to make. That accidental crouch shit was single handedly destroying the game for me.

The fact you have to hit two buttons to switch from sword and board to two handed is also hampering on combat performance. Even if my finger memory adjusts the delayed effect is still annoying.

I understand the need to try something new but a lot of the shit they added to this game seems to fall into the "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" territory.

We didn't need to crouch for sneaking, we didn't need to jump, we didn't need open world. We only got those things because DS3 2.0 which is what this might have been without those changes would have been a bit much even for a Japanese company.

How did you two-hand in the other games? Honest question, it's been some years since my last Soulsborne romp.

Does switching to Performance mode help?

I feel that I've grown shittier at these games. That combined with my stubborness (I completely refuse to summon help) is making this game a bitch. Also there's no way the late game shit can be as difficult as the shit they throw at you right near the start so I will persevere.

Is it just me or From heavily favors faith this time around?

Faith seems to be a major stat in a lot of equipment and spells I come across in the game. I think they definitely leaned into it in Elden Ring. Thematically appropriate, in a way.
Are we playing the same game? I feel like almost every time I loot something new it's either a spell (INT) or a weapon with an INT requirement.

Feels good, man. Finally a boss reward that is actually useful long-term.
