Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
finished the game today after ~90 hours, still had a ton of shit scattered around that I didn't do and the last two zones I barely even explored at all... got the age of stars ending..

the final boss is horrible

Whoever designed the Fallingstar beast and the fire breathing eagles deserves to be taken to the cornfield and dealt with appropriately.

Beating the Fallingstar Beast variant in Mt. Gelmir--solo, on foot, and as a two-handed STR build--is the most excruciating task I've accomplished in all of soulsborne.
That one is a cakewalk compared to the one at the bottom of Sellia Crystal Tunnel that charges you before you can even walk through the fog gate properly. The overworld versions really aren't THAT bad, because at least you have room to fight them properly.

Its funny seeing reviewers do a u turn on elden ring

jaffe is a sony shill and a retard. got filtered by both cruelty squad and metroid dread. dude is a has-been. he makes adam sessler look like the pauline kael of video games
Yeah, Jaffe is a hack. It shouldn't be any surprise considering that his claim to fame is as the lead designer on God of War, the ultimate casualization of 3D action games and utter decline compared to Devil May Cry and the Xbox Ninja Gaiden.

Didn't feel as rage inducing as Margit, more openings for attacks and I managed to get a few Guard Counters in this time. FeelsGoodMan

Is the underground area optional/side content?
Yes, in fact the vast majority of the game is optional as you only need to kill 2 out of 7 demigods to beat the game (without bugs)

My favourite part of this game is enemies who dodge immediately after they finish a combo so it's impossible to get a hit in

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the list of mandatory things you need to do to reach a main ending is absurdly short. Little to no spoiler version:

You need to kill two demigods (and activate their runes?) to unlock and beat the capital city boss fight, then go to two separate late game areas, defeat their bosses and get their items/trigger cutscenes, return the capital for endgame bosses.

Haven't done the "alternative" route to the forge yet, that might be shorter.

Did someone find a way to the mountaintops other than the Grand Lift? The blood katana and the demon-samurai armor set are hidden in there, and I've been wondering if there's another way in.

It's one of those teleporters or a series of mountainside jumps, I bet.

Interesting, I was thinking Limgrave, Liurna and the Altus Plateau if you put all legacy dungeons into these areas would be a better size for the entire game. Beyond that it is getting into tedious bloat. But possibly the idea was they expect people to only do a certain number of areas and then finish the game leaving new sections for subsequent playthroughs? Maybe its the high degree of autists on this site, and the fact we have been trained by old school design to lawnmower over the entire gameworld that is leading to burnout.

It would be interesting to see stats someday on how many areas the general public completes during a playthrough, and how may people replay the game.

Playing older games, I was satisfied enough after just beating it without doing every side quest and exploring everything the game has to offer.

Nowadays, however, the situation is quite different - games openly show you a checklist of things to do, and gaming ecosystems have built-in trophies/achievements for participating in every side activity and collecting every piece of garbage. Lawnmowering the gameworld is a modern thing.

If you only do a certain amount of areas you won't have enough xp to deal with lategame, and will be missing a fuckton of smithing stones and may not be able to upgrade normal weapons. The game is balanced around doing lots of side content.

Might be possible for normie players because of the way leveling rune cost works exponentially but I dunno

I can't make up my mind if Malenia is harder or easier than Orphan of Kos/Nameless King/Isshin.

Probably easier than OoK and Isshin, but harder than NK for me.

Isshin is god-tier boss design.

But is she as fun as those?

I found Isshin much more fun then both OoK and NK. But then I think Sekiro perfected the boss fights myself.

Eh... probably as fun as Orphan of Kos... which isn't terribly fun. They're both hyper aggressive and closer to the "unfair" side. I don't mind Malenia being difficult though, as From clearly has her earmarked for the "super hard boss" of the game. And unlike the other three bosses, you can probably significantly outlevel the fight to give yourself a strong advantage.

Or just drop mimic tear and have the fight be a cakewalk. I tested mimic just for the first half of the fight and we wrecked her shit so hard that I had to suicide out of the battle.

Isshin is straight up probably the best boss I've seen in an arpg, if not any videogame ever. The environment, the movesets, the full incorporation of everything you've learned in the game so far...

I finished the capital last night and still found fucking smithing stones 4 and 5 there, while already having my moonveil on 8 and I had my Moonlight sword on 9. The way they distributed somber stones and normal stones is very funny.

That is some serious bullshit, and I guess the progression of From turning Dark Souls into Dodge Souls and building the meta around it.

Good thing I despise rolling as a mechanic in these games and go full block bro.

Bad news that From is clearly doubling down on roll/dodge for every game now.

That's like... the opposite of my feeling. Magrit did not twirl around rolling accross the battlefield, creating (fiery) tornados around him, that you cannot even approach him.
