I didnt use azur comet but I used sword that casts it.
malenia cant do shit.
combined with mimics own cast you can skip entire boss phases unless they trigger cutscenes.

If you use mimic you can stun lock her with normal weapon so who cares you already pressed I win button.

I never said mimic is weak, but magic does trivialize a lot of things and mimic is even stronger with magic builds.
who is her? malenia?
a melee mimic would heal her a lot in return

There's no reason to talk about builds if you use summons, AI is playing the game for you anyway.

But then he'd have trouble getting back to less developed Surge 1 mechnics after Surge 2.

It's like a zoomer starting with DS1. He might uninstall inside an hour bc "what's this stupid janky piece of trash"?

Starting with Elden Ring tho will ease him into the formula much better. Then he can go back to less polished previous games and enjoy them for what they are.
I won't. I'm not retarded. When I invest in a game I usually know I will like it (even if I have to suffer) because I know what I want. Right now I want to beat all of the Souls games.

I did play some (Demon, Dark 2, Blood, five minutes of Nioh) of the other games in the series but I was at a point in my life when I could not enjoy them.

Maybe you needed Elden Ring to ease you into the formula?

At this rate:

Demon Souls (slow, plodding but tactical action combat) > Dark Souls (same) > Dark Souls 2 (more actiony elements) > Dark Souls 3 (rolling simulator) > Sekiro (reflex based action combat) > Elden Ring (reflex based action combat wrapped in pointless stats with gimped player abilities/animations) > FS Next game (e-sports fighting game).
For anyone new here, just refer to my signature to correctly interpret Porky's post.

Are people having the magic vs. melee conversation again? Of course having a range attack is easier, there's only a few bosses that are more dangerous at range (only one I recall is the telekinetic sword guy in poison castle) while everyone else has some deadly wombo combo that you can just ignore if you're far away. Same for the rest of the mainline series.

And obviously summoning is the easier mode (for dishonorable dogs, inshallah). Praise Sekiro.

No, almost every boss, during combos advances towards you or outright closes the gap forcing you into melee range and dodging.
Yet again one of the more great game designs from BB and DkS3 making a return and turned to 11.

Get farther away.
(Unless it's the magic earwig, that's the other dangerous at range boss I remember, though you can just get slightly closer and it can't tailstrike you.)
This also lets you watch the entirety of the giant monster boss so you can see his attacks instead of trying to guess the meaning of the boss moving their feet slightly to the left.

Praise Sekiro.
Most memorable From game since dark souls 1, certainly
Playing it rn, as a palate cleanser for ER.

Surprised how easy everything is. All bosses and minibosses going down on 1st or 2nd try (only Father Owl and Isshin left now). Muscle memory still p. alive.

Sekiro is phenomenal, problem is as soon as it clicks and you learn the strats there's barely any challenge, sadly.

I just needed a new computer and a little better internet to make use of all the stuff I felt I was missing out on. Bloodborne is my favorite of the ones I played (I could not do any multiplayer at the time sadly) because I like Lovecraft, but since have not beaten any of them my opinion does not matter yet.

What part of advances towards you or closes the gap indicate in any way that I'm staying close and not moving? All of them have gap closers.
And BTW, staying close to giant creatures is usually better as most of their attacks miss. But they also reposition a lot.
The whole point of this is that if you play as a mage, you're still be running and dodging waiting or baiting certain attacks with certain openings to cast spells. That's all.

BROS HERES MY TAKE SO FAR IM ONLY SPOILING MYSELF HERE AND THERE ESPECIALLY IF I FORGET A QUEST LINE OR REALLY NEED SMITHING STONEA AND 75 HOURS IN CURRENT CHARACTER

BEAUTIFUL GAME LOVE THE ART
COMBAT IS GOOD ENOUGB
EXPLORATION IS FUN AND I LIKE HORSE
QUESTS ARE NICE AND OBSCURE BUT WHEN YOU RANDOMLY FIND OBSCURE SHIT IT FEELS AWESOME
BALANCE IS AN ISSUE AND TYING PROGRESS TO SMITHING STONES THAT ARE SOMETIMES HARD TO FIND IN A HUGE OBSCURE WORLD IS CRAZY

NOT MANY GAME CHANGING WEAPONS MADE WORSE BY LACK OF UPGRADE MATERIALS REMEMBER DRAKE SWORD OR LIGHTNING SPEAR IN DS1

BROS MORE ARMOUR PLEASE ESPECIALLY EARLY GAME

MAYBE I JUST SUCK BUT DIFFICULTY IS UNEVEN BUT MOSTLY GOOD SO FAR HAVING EASY TIME WITH BIG BOSSES BUT GET STUCK ON SOME LITTLE ONES

HOLY FUCK THE AMOUNT OF CONTENT

Gotta say I think this is actually the easiest Fromsoft Soulslike after some more time with it.

Goofed around a bit more with my main from the first playthrough last night. Running RoB + a blood Uchi in Lionel's set I one-tapped Astel without preparing (no guides etc) and without well optimised stats. Just deleted him in <60 seconds. Player damage output gets to a point that a bosses movset is basicaly invalidated unless they can anime-dodge or fly away. Never managed that before in previous games with a non-meme build.

This is less an earnest adventure in the way the older games were and more an exercise in making yourself as OP as possible to deal with all the inflated numbers. The Sseth video actually illustrates that point nicely. Reminds me a bit of Warframe. How that compares to what came before is a matter of personal taste. Killshots are the game as pakoito said a few pages back re PvP except I think it applies to PvE too.

You wonder how rushed the final stages of development were and what impact that had on stat refinement and balance passes. Per Ravielsk there were significant system changes (e.g. poise) even as late as post network test.
Talking about other Souls-likes - Ashen is just 8 bucks on GMG. Get it.

Compared to Souls it's a very simple game systems-wise but with fairly enjoyable combat and a standout level design, encounter design, bosses and vibe.

Agree, Seat of the Matriarch is up there as one of the all-time most gruelling dungeons in a soulslike.

It's funny how some people say "Elden Ring is so easy", while others say "ER is insanely difficult". Until you realize that the former are playing with summons, OP weapons/builds, after following streamers'/online guides, etc, while the latter are trying to play it like an actual aRPG.

But I guess in 2022, Codex is ok with that kind of shit. Soon, the "RTFM" of the 80s/90s will turn into "WTFSF (watch the fucking streamer first)". :negative:

Nice coping mechanism, Porky. Nice coping mechanism.

I'm the lead general of the "Elden Ring is so easy" brigade and I've played my entire first playthrough with a claymore. Zero summons or online guides, and I would sooner have sex with a thousand rustys than watch a streamer even for a second.

Dunno Porky I played it blind at release and didn't find it overly difficult, more tedious moment to moment. Even before I caved and stopped trying to play it 'properly' the game pushed me towards status effects and weapon arts after finding bleed to be very effective against Margit and struggling for damage output otherwise due to early-mid game upgrade poverty.

The game doesn't respect your time invested if you try to play it organically which is a major criticisim I have of it.

Not a fan of the rise of 'wiki' games in general. I miss the days of having a proper manual.

So i walked into Rennala and a bunch of crazy bitches crawled up to me and tried to suck my dick. What the shit.

Did her on my first try. Second stage was easier than i expected, mostly because even with her spells you can avoid the monsters she spawns pretty easily and if you walk far away enough (which i did a few times to avoid the breath of the dragon) she doesn't do much allowing you to use spells to heal or buff.

Not used to fights where you can just take a break whenever you want to lmao.

So i then tried to help some people in co-op but for some reason we couldn't get past the first stage? When i walked in she was encased in a yellow bubble and didn't take me much to figure out i had to kill the bitches with the yellow halo but when i tried in co-op she had no yellow shield and none of those crawling mages had it either. We went around killing them for a bit then host gave up and sent me away. Happened a few times in a row.

What gives? I assume you have to do something before you can actually fight her and i did it before hand without realizing it?

The academy was knewl. At first i was disappointed that it was so much smaller than Stormveil than i discovered a whole extra area across the roof.

another fromsoft thread, another e-penis measure about difficulty and how "using x y z is not finishing the game"

can you people stop pretending single player games are difficult? until we get machine learning for gaming or something all it takes is figuring out patterns and cheesing the hell out of it, there's a reason why every fromsoft game has SL1 runs, they're not difficult, just tedious.

edit: misread the previous paragraph. You probably had bad luck on one of the yellow spawn and it was hidden somewhere in a shitty part of the room.

One of the many weirdos on the ground will have a shiny effect on top of their head, they are the one you must kill, you need to do that three times before the boss bubble breaks.

Nevermind, apparently it's a bug:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/t2958p/bug_report_rennalas_shielders_not_spawning/

I guess i didn't see this bug because i was on my own and didn't summnon anyone.

Come to think this is a nasty bug if it happened to me i'd have wasted half an hour trying to figure out what kind of "puzzle" From had put for this boss lmao.
