Ok, so I think it's fair to say this game does things in a bit of a weird way.
With a slightly better understanding of the leveling system and some mechanics, I quickly restarted with another character. Out of the prologue I emerge, and the first thing in my mind is to find answers and who better to give me these than Martin Kingsley, the man who sent me to the Nashville Facility where things took a turn for the worse.
Because all in all, Kingsley seems like a nice man. This is when I contacted him from inside Nashville mere moments before things went absolute fubar:
He's in a high position of power, yet still humble enough to recognize his mistakes and apologize for them. Good guy.
And because of this conversation when I was in some manner of projected ethereal stasis:
I'm pretty sure of where I can find him. Straight to Magellan then!
On the way there, I collapse to the floor and suffer a vision:
Well, Magellan lies to the northeast, so I'm on the right track.
There in Magellan, I swiftly apply for citizenship in order to access the buildings proper then take the elevator to the sixth floor, where I see this:
But the door to his office is locked, and the secretary doesn't like that I try to enter anyway.
So I talk to her.
This is ridiculous. I was at the very heart of the most catastrophic event recorded under the Dome, and I'm simply here to talk with the man who sent me there, but the game doesn't offer me a single option to
actually talk.
How about, "Hey, two years ago your boss sent me to Nashville, and I'm fairly certain he might be interested to hear me talk about what happened." Just that, that would have been the simplest, most logical and basic conversation option. But no.
Worse is that I can't call to him through the door, despite the fact that a bit sooner, I could do that exact thing with a much less important character:
So what happened? Did the devs forget the good, simple, effective idea they implemented five minutes ago?
Fine then; I'll use the gaming world's best-designed stealth system to sneak by and lockpick my way to Kingsley:
For verily I have become shadows and air, and none who walks this earth possesses the means to perceive my presence. (in all seriousness, I've never seen such a bonkers stealth system; in fact there's not even a system, you can't invest points into stealth or something like that, it seems innate to every character that no matter what, once you're crouched people suddenly become blind beyond roughly two meters)
But once I'm inside the keen-eyed secretary promptly notices the door has been unlocked, and she starts looking around. Still I am utterly invisible, because I know how to crouch.
So I talk to Kingsley while his secretary searches around like the daft moron she is.
But as soon as my conversation with him is over, she notices me.
I mean, there's enough things I like that I'll probably play it to the end, but some design decisions are completely mental. I only hope the decline in quality further into the game is not so sudden and abrupt as I've been told.
