Hover developers just released their further support/content as an "unofficial mod" when their publisher stone walled them I am sure if they were truly motivated they could have done the same.

The game is abandoned, and has been for a long time now, that rumor you heard is just a lame ass fake news excuse
dunno anything about that, man. I got this game on sale and then read the Steam forums about the alleged "Patch 1.4", like what Nikanuur above me has linked.

I am just here to see if this could be another hidden cRPG banger from the east bros. And whether I should start playing now or just wait to see how this will go. :D

Give it a spin, most of the good stuff is frontloaded so you will have a good time at first at least. Later on its a barren wasteland in more ways than one. Getting it on a deep discount is the way to go :)

At that price, it’s worth it to play up to the BIG TWIST and then put it down.

Wasn't really a cashgrab more a traditional DoubleFine shitting out a 1.0 when Early Access didn't make a splash scenario, they made a decent first half using kickstarter/publisher money then threw it up on Early Access hoping to finance the rest of it. It then underperformed sales expectations and they plopped out a 1.0 release with a super linear barebones second half. Granted they delivered more of a game than DoubleFine's here is 1.0 with 5-10% of the promised features in the kickstarter/1st store page description.

The plot twist is that it start as a regular sci-fi setting, albeit set in the '70s. The post-apocalipse part is spoiled in the title.

The game is good, even if the second half lacks some content. Could have been better for sure, but still a good one. People bitching about it are retards.

The content kind of dropping off did make my interest drop off, but I got good mileage in terms of a proper isometric CRPG "feel" from the game up to that point (maybe the combat and build system could have been tweaked a bit, some things were way more effective than others that looked tempting but turned out to be duds, but that could have been sorted out over time if the game had had enough popularity to be supported).

I would say it's definitely worth a play and most people here will probably enjoy the earlier chunk of it.

I wish this game had the pre-apocalypse setting in the prolouge. It seem just much more interesting (or it's a bias because the prologue are much more densely packed) than the rest of the game which made it into semi generic post apoc setting.

Cold War retrofuturist STALKER/Roadside Picnic with a Multilateral NGO corporatizing to sustain itself was just the better premise, nuking all of it an hour in for something much more derivative was a bad decision.

What happened to the game is what happens to most indie games from inexperienced developers: feature creep. They started trying to implement much more than would be realistically sensible (and logical), like dialogues for different levels of intelligence and various other skills. In the end, they burned all their creative energy and budget in the first 30% of the game. Extremely predictable, but sad nonetheless.

The idea of what the game could have been in a hypothetical scenario where they were able to fully execute their vision is quite interesting. But this is another project that didn't transition well when it had to face reality. Still, it's not a terrible game, the negative reaction is much more about what the game promised than what it actually is.

This game is mediocre-at-best. Well, it has great graphics, bugs are tolerable, but overall it is a game that in theory I should like a lot as I love Fallouts, Arcanum and Prelude to Darkness. However, somehow this game incorporates a lot of Fallout mechanics and is clearly inspired by it in world design and gameplay, yet manages to be bland and boring. It follows the checks of what should be in a Fallout-like game, but execution is inferior and lifeless. Despite attempting to push through with it, the game discouragingly bore me. This thread is almost 100 pages long so I guess some of you enjoy it, and I don't want to be critical too much, so I you haven't played it yet and it gets on a good sale you might give it a try, but don't expect anything more than a mediocre game imo.

Encased starts great and built hype like few games in the last 10 years or so.
It raised my expectations for it be at least in the same conversation as the greats of the genre.

But Encased fizzled fast after leaving the tutorial dome area into more or less random references, poor level design and TODO scaffolding that never came to be.
Bitter example that often couple of hours of gameplay is not enough to have right feeling about quality of game.
