And the protagonist...oh my. Literally within 5 minutes you witnessed a nuclear blast, saw your husband got killed, and started fighting giant cockroaches with a baton...as a normal housewife. 10 minutes later and she is shooting fucking raiders with a laser rifle, as a normal housewife. 5 minutes later I am controlling a fucking power armor and shooting at a deathclaw with a fucking minigun, AS A PRE-WAR HOUSEWIFE. Did she get special corps training or something?

And her voice AND acting were so completely indifferent to all the shit going around.
In fallout 1 I got out of a pristine, peaceful vault and 5 minutes later I was punching giant scorpions in the eyes. Wow so unrealistic, 0/10 worst game ever

And those scorpions will murder you unless you have the combat difficulty on low
So unless I'm doing something really wrong, I don't think your example holds up.

Yeah, the main character is a fucking sociopath, he never reacts or remarks on his son being kidnapped, his wife being killed, the world being destroyed.

The entire experience doesn't even come close to what them potatoes managed to do with a voiced protagonist in the Witcher, or even Bioware cucks with mass effect.

He's actually right... not that I think Fallout 3's story was better. It might have been Obsidian's intention to make the Legion a more morally 'grey' than they are in the game but it doesn't turn out that way. And, yes, a lot of the characters do really dumb things with no explanation other than to shuttle the MacGuffin/story to a new location.

Overall New Vegas has better detail/character writing but the factions are pretty cut and dry.

Not cut and dry, simply retarded as fuck.

There's not much to recommend about new Vegas main factions.

The Legion was pretty poor yes, but actually talking to Caesar and listening to what he said made it a lot better.

That means it did suffer a lot from telling instead of showing of course.

The Legion are handled badly but the decision between House, NCR and independence was very good, I thought.
I thought they were handled all right, but I would have liked to see more done with them, which I'm sure they probably didn't have the time to.

Benny fucks over the Khans to avoid having to pay them their large fee, and more importantly to get them killed and sweep away his tracks. As is revealed in the Tops, Benny pretends to stay in his room for weeks when he's actually sneaking out on missions via the secret elevator.

The reason he goes to the Fort with the Platinum Chip is obviously to activate the Weather Station Securitrons. He would have no reason to be there without the Platinum Chip.

The reason he gets caught is because he never got the gel out of his hair, not wanting to mess it up. The reason the Courier is able to track him through the Mojave is because he never switches out of his stylish checkered suit to something more ordinary. The guy is vain and obsessed with his looks, that's his weakness.

If he wanted to point out stupidity in New Vegas' story, he should have brought up how Caesar sends the Courier to destroy the Weather Station Securitron factory, and then just takes his word for having done the job. The justification for him not just sending Legionnaires is flimsy and it doesn't make much sense.

What? I'm pretty sure the character does react when his wife gets murdered, and he sounds really pissed off when talking to Kellogg.
I will admit that its amusing that right after stepping out of cryo, he has no problem gunning down raiders, giant rats and a fucking deathclaw without blinking.
Like, I know that the male main character is supposed to be a soldier, but he's taking the whole "mutant lizard from hell" thing a little too calmly.

They shoulda scrapped Lonely Hearts or added a 5th DLC where you go to some near part of Legion territory behind the lines to get more of a look at what things are like there.

Dude goes from talking in a level monotone to talking in a raised monotone to going back to a level monotone again.

The mans voice would make the game intolerable for me to play if I ever did, would have to roll the chick and turn her into my typical under slung jaw redneck sociopath for Gamebyro FO games.

I was 100% sure I was gonna have to fight my way out immediately after turning on the Securitrons (as in like, I'd turn around and Legion would have spawned in the hallway behind me, revealing they'd been there the whole time - even that would be pretty stupid) and the out they give you was so bad it let all the air out of the rest of the game.

I read somewhere that Obsidian was forced to remove many things about Legion (Including a pro legion companion and a few settlements ran by legion) due to time limit.
In other words: Bethesda shafted Obsidian yet again because they're butthurt cunts.

Well before your arrival they can't open the door.
I believe Mr House / Yes Man has to actually open it for you. They even talk about being unable to blast it down with dynamite I think.
[/pedantic]

After you magically open it though.. it definitely starts to break down in the -rational- category.

> Someone Cesaer barely knows rolls up to camp
> Cesaer tells them to destroy something that belongs to House (who Cesaer knows they've been working with)
> Courier Opens the huge door magically... But totally is not working for house
> Cesaer hears large rumbling noises and strange machinery kicking on (must be explosions!)
> Stranger comes back from factory... re-locks door...........
> Tells Cesaer it's all blown up.......
> Says they need to leave immediately... because reasons...........
> Seems legit.........
> Mastermind who rules legion with iron fist....?

Also how do all those securitrons show up to hoover dam when they are exiting from that Camp...?
Without the legions.. like noticing them or anything.. I guess it can be kinda explained. Always kinda seemed weird though..

I always considered that part of the story as rushed, probably Obsidian trying to crunch the story down before the deadline hits and Bethesda gets into a bitchfit.

I'm over 30 h and having a blast. Sure, it can't compare to New Vegas in terms of complexity, writing and C&C but I have to admit that it's a major improvement over F3. Another game from Obsidian using this engine would be a dream come true. I loved RAGE and F4 is a Rage x 2 :D.
Still hoping InXile does a Van Burren game but with modding support.
