Also they sure as hell had a commitee commited to padding this game with bullshit so it reaches 30+ hours gametime on a normal playthrough.
But man is that combat system good
Thought someone might find this interesting, here's a picture from a very early build of the first version of FF 7 on SNES:
After this they moved on to prototyping FF 7 for Nintendo 64:
In both versions they were still using character concepts and aesthetics from FF 6 for prototyping and conceptualizing, so it's safe to assume that they didn't actually get around to coming up what FF 7 would actually be like until they locked down their platform. Surprising restraint from 90s era Square? Or perhaps they just came up with FF 7 concept at the last minute and it had nothing to do with discipline ^_^
Also they sure as hell had a commitee commited to padding this game with bullshit so it reaches 30+ hours gametime on a normal playthrough.
Make the game episodic because it's too long.
Add 30 hours of pointless sidequests.
It's because of that weird body language they add to all their games now that the graphics caught up. It really makes it difficult to identify with or empathize with characters in a story when they're acting like aliens. I don't think it's just an anime thing either, I think some of their people genuinely act like this or something because it's everywhere. In their old games There would just be a small animation to express how a character felt, and you got it, here they do some weird shit that just alienates you from the game. Dialogue is obviously cringy along with the damn voice acting. Not sure if they have shitty Japanese directors directing English voice actors and that's why they can't tell what is good voice acting or if it's something else, but it's obvious there is a huge disconnect between getting good dialogue in a translation and good voice acting that doesn't sound like shit.Dunkey has a point here, dialogue is garbage and the mangle the story
But man is that combat system good
That was my feeling as well. Its the perfect combo of reflexes, tactics, character customization via materia and weapons, and just good ol leveling up. You can't become overpowered through any one item or tactic but upgrades are always meaningful. It remained challenging from start to finish, first boss to the last boss, while still escalating, getting more powerful and providing more options. That's some kind of record for gaming.
is that when a witch sends a witch back in time to find a witch who then sends the protagonist back in time x 10 to witness the life of a character that is still fucking aliveHopefully they do it kind of like how they did Laguna in FF8
FF8's 'plot' has to be the most convoluted bullshit I've ever experienced. I still have no idea what happened, beyond the retarded coincidence of the amnesia club getting back together. I've no idea why any of the three witches have their powers or who they are related to, who the fuck laguna is, why Seifer or his buddies were retarded turncoats that tried to murder their classmates for no reason, or what literally anyone's motivations for doing anything are in the entire story. I think the only bit that made sense was Rinoa wanting to rebel and fuck with her rich daddy or something?is that when a witch sends a witch back in time to find a witch who then sends the protagonist back in time x 10 to witness the life of a character that is still fucking aliveHopefully they do it kind of like how they did Laguna in FF8
Its not a coincidence since the ending makes clear it was predestination loop.I still have no idea what happened, beyond the retarded coincidence of the amnesia club getting back together
There is really only one sorceress ... until Ultramercia after being defeated ends up in the past giving Edea her powers because thats how there was only one sorceress since before they died they pass on their power, this creates a paradox of sorts as Edea and Adel are both Sorceress despite there should only been one, then Riona becomes a sorceress after Edea/Ultramercia is defeated as she passes her powers to Riona so she can release Adel so she can possess Adel.I've no idea why any of the three witches have their powers or who they are related to
His importance is who he is connected to, that being Ellone that kinda uses him and his team as a example of how she can transfer the conscience of people to others into the past, he kinda is important but on the other hand not really as he doesnt really takes any larger role outside having set in motion certain events in the past (like managing to imprison Adel).who the fuck laguna is,
Seifer kinda losses it after Ultramercia manages to convince him to follow her, Fujin and Raijin simply follow him but when Seifer goes into the deep end even they will not fight you.why Seifer or his buddies were retarded turncoats that tried to murder their classmates for no reason,
Its not that "hard", Ultramercia doesnt want to die so she comes up with the idea if she compresses time then there is no past/future and she will be immortal but it was always a predestination loop since Adel is imprisoned so there would be no sorceress for her to take control as the only reason Edea is a sorceress is because after being defeated and dying Ultramercia passes her powers to her and if that did not happened then Riona would not be the sorceress since Adel would not pass her powers to anyone (this is a assumption she was never able to escape and so never able to pass her powers).or what literally anyone's motivations for doing anything are in the entire story.
But FF8 was the original Nomura trash, IIRC it was the first game where he had more of an input development wise, while Sakaguchi was dedicating himself to FF9 who was being developed nearly at the same time. Might explain the time travel elements, Nomura seems to love that shit.Still better than Nomura/Square Enix trash
