Watched the panel, they showed lots of different stuff including finally showing off a bit of exploration/locations.

This game is going to sell like hotcakes. It even has Schloss Neuschwanstein on steroids and Fachwerkhäuser (German half-timbered housing).

Some tidbits

- 70-80 hours if you do all the content including sidequests/hunts/exploration
- New Game + features an additional difficulty mode that is apparently harder that Dante must die in DMC. DJOGamer PT
- 3 Base Attributes (Strength, Vitality, Will) and 3 Stats (Attack, Defense, Stagger) (If I interpret it correctly)
- There's also 3 Gear Slots (Weapon, Belt, Arm)
- Standard crafting, you can also reinforce Weapons or something it looks like as that's a different tab.
- The game's easy/story mode difficulty using accessories was shown off. To make a long story short you can dumb the controls down to FFXV levels if you want (Why would you?). They are varied in utility though, so if you have problems with a particular part of the combat system they may actually be a help.
- Sadly, I didn't quite understand if the accessorie slots are solely for this or if there are other accesories too.

Lastly there were some eikon related things too in the in the gear screen contained in two separate tabs. They didn't talk about it and the tab i saw only showed symbols, so I have no idea what these are actually referring to.

I think in an early interview or something similar it was stated that you'll have a bunch of accessories that provide various gameplay effects like slowing down time when enemies are attacking or something like that
I believe the idea was that you could customise the game's difficulty by equipping/unequipping the accessories

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I can correct me on this

Yeah, they showed it off its pretty much it.

From the ones they've shown:

- Ring of Timely Strikes - As mentioned dumbs the controls down to FFXV levels, automatically doing combos by pressing one button
- Ring of Timely Evasion - Auto-Dodge
- Ring of Timely Healing - Auto-Potion
- Ring of Timely Focus - Weaker version of the evasion one. Just slows time down instead of auto-dodging.

I do like that they let you identify on first glance if somebody uses them via an all present symbol specific to the ring over the health bar. Proper shaming. :salute::lol:

Well at least it looks like they're treating this entry with care. More than 15 at least. To be a fly on the wall in those end of fiscal year meetings...

While this game seems like it'd better fit as a Final Fantasy spinoff game or something, I don't know how any fan of action-RPGs - or even just action - wouldn't be excited or at least interested in this. Regardless, the FF we knew and loved has been dead for a long time, and this certainly looks like the best solid attempt in a very long time despite its major departure from 'classic' FF (which doesn't exist anymore anyways).

Just sucks it's going to be chained to a goddamn console for however long.

6 months.

"Classic FF" is kind of a weird thing to grasp because every entry has its own identity, but I guess that was left in the SNES era, even though 7 is still a straight forward FF game.

I'd consider every FF 1-9 as classic FF, despite the experimentation and changes that happened. 10 fucked the series and it hasn't been the same since. Mainline really should have just ended with IX.

4 is the most average FF game in terms of it being the template for what people associate to the concept of a FF game, but even then, 5 and 6 were still different from one another, outside of the basic mechanics like ATB. It feels like introducing more "modern" aesthetics kinda killed the original spirit a bit. It doesn't help that in 7 and especially in 8 they started going full anime. 9 was the exception to the rule.

The more I look at this game, the more I think you can put Geralt into the game and past it off as The Witcher 4. This is the more derivative and unoriginal FF entry ever, even the NES FF games had more originality and character in them.

Nothing when I'm looking at this game makes me think of the Witcher, from gameplay to aesthetic. The only real commonality is the third-person camera.

I ... I actually might buy this game on release. I am shocked to hear myself uttering such a statement in 2023 ....

Guys, you have looked at the credits, right? The combat is going to be good as it's headed by the badass who worked DMC5 AND Dragons Dogma, and the project is being directed by the bro who did Last Remnant. Sometimes it's ok to stow the pessimism and look forward to something based on the facts in front of you.

It's Squenix. I'll believe it when I see it. They have this incredible ability to drive everything directly into the ground, despite having talented devs.

Squeenix's higher ups can be weird as fuck, so I'd be cautious as well. But at the same time, Dragon's Dogma is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.

There are a fair amount of good games that have come out of Squeenix in the past several years, despite them being pretty rotten to the core. They know this is their chance to revive FF, and that's why they got so many A-list developers on the project. This is going to be at least a good, fun game, if not great.

What's with the consensus that X was that bad? It is certainly better than 2 or 8, and at least on par with a lot of other previous entries. Or is this another codex 'it's popular, so we are obliged to hate it' thing?
