The real fun in the game is fighting the optional tough bosses which are more difficult than the end boss.
Yeah, real men kill Bela and his bitch sister in prequel, though the most overkill shit I know about are rapax, of course. At high enough levels you can face 20 something of them and they are hp sponges that hit hard and cast stuff. I can't really remember any bosses that were difficult except Nessie.

Bela is easy at low levels.

Try fighting Bela when your characters all have their expert skills maxed.

That is one interesting mechanic of Wizardry 8, you can't out run the level scaling. It's both annoying and challenging, and verges on the annoying at times.

I dropped the game because I blew my cover as rapax templar before I got some item from their castle that you need to progress the story (teleport to that bomb tower in Arnica if I remember correctly, it was against my RP to let it explode when you enter cosmic circle). I just didn't feel like killing hordes of steroid filled bulls while they respawn when you turn around corners.

I'm well aware of how scaling in can really rack up shit in wiz8 and I don't like it.

the actual correct way of playing wiz8 is to go with full on oriental smackdown and go samurai, monk, 4x ninjas

please restart with that party configuration and disregard all the lying persons in this thread who are suggesting you subpar combinations with no basis in reality

This shows that you have no idea of the underlying formulas.
Please, I have shit like how much 0.0001 of something stat gives memorised in my neanderthal lizard brain. And hearing that from someone who says you want a Priest in party is just laughable anyway. Your logik is take 5 lizardmen fighters 1 bishop, what a terrible advice.

Again, you show that you have no clue. For example the speedrun record is Fighter/Valk/Valk/Priest/Mage/Alch. The more the game progresses the less constructive will additional melee be past the 2xFighter (1Fighter = 2 Hybrids) be.

In my reasoning I was also considering that the OP is new to the game. Fighters can use almost anything, the far-east classes have severe restrictions and you need to know where to find their optimal gear. A Bishop is a good buffbot, but takes ages to develop or incessant grinding, which means you have to hold levelups back for the rest, which is counterintuitive.

Let me rephrase. Relative level is everything in this game. To-hit, to-hit of afflictions, critical strike and whatnot is all heavily influenced by the level difference betwenn the char and the monster.

This is rubbish. A 2-school Bishop more than makes up for the slight lag in levelling with sheer versatility, no grinding required.

I would suggest to Fluent that he get a Ranger though, if he's not too far into the game. The auto-search is a huge QoL feature for the new player, even though none of the shit you can find is essential. Rangers have the added benefit of being fun as hell to use.

If you haven't already done so, install the "Wiz8fast" patch.

http://www.zimlab.com/wizardry/patches.htm

This patch allows you to increase the combat speed on the fly. If you like regular speed leave it at regular speed.

If you get swarmed by 50 monsters and get tired of waiting 30 seconds for each monster to move and ur still only on round 2.. bump up the speed. Then return it to normal afterwards.

It's an "essential" mod imo.

I played this game when it was released, before the wiz8fast patch, and I can tell you it makes the game experience much more enjoyable.

Purism in this regards is not a benefit.
Don't forget even faster Wiz 8 by our own (fallen) brother.

I agree a 2-school bishop trades power for versatility and a larger SP pool, while not requiring much babysitting. Still, he will lag behind the rest of the party and his spells will not be as powerful as a specialists. A specialist caster will always reach Powercast earlier, has more speed and is a higher level.

I ran almost that exact party! 2x Dwarven Monks, 1x Samurai, 3x Ninja. Except I made my Ninjas into some weird Dex/Speed Alchemy casters that sometimes murdered you with Critical Strikes (as opposed to the other way around).

last time i played this i had fun rolling two melee in front (blood lust yay), 1 M-range in the middle (valk's a good choice), 1 l-range (ninja for auto pen or ranger for QoL) in the middle, and two bishops in the back.

Can I multiclass into some of the more interesting classes? Say, Rogue -> Ranger and Mage -> Psionic? If so I'll do that ASAP.

Multiclassing is useless in Wizardry 8. Unless you're doing a solo run, don't bother with it.

Did you know it is possible to play a game without starting a new thread saying you are playing it every single time?

You could at least wrote some dumb larp stories for every party member, with portraits and your voice picks, that would make your op post more entertaining.
