It's hip to hate on Souls these days, but in my opinion it's just one of those things where something that's really good got really popular, and that's fine for those of us who are past adolescence.
My favourite of all the Souls games was the very first one, Demon's, but I've finished the others, too. I like the first one better because it was actually fresh back then - I did play all of the King's Field games, too, and KF4 is actually my favourite From Software game.
The formula is getting very long in the tooth now and DS2 had some pretty weak areas, but the whole thing is still massively better than most of the overproduced tripe that's out these days, as long as you don't overthink it or try too hard to be edgy. It's got good feedback in combat, some nice atmosphere and cool enemies/music. Doesn't treat the player like a mongoloid but I don't think it's as hard as people think, plus all games in the series have a bad difficulty curve, getting trivially easy after a certain point instead of harder, but that's a forgiveable flaw.
I didn't sperg and finish every single game 500x over, but I usually do a couple of NG+ loops. Don't care for the multiplayer either, so there's that.
I didn't like Bloodborne very much, even though I really liked the setting and I think the art direction was awesome. I think the formula is just too repetitive for me these days. Will play DS3 but don't expect a revelation - just a solid game like the others.
People thinking video games are the second coming of Christ are quite amusing, really.
