Rating murawind and gothic a 3-4 and nwn mod she likes 9.5 while saying that Wizardry 8 should have been made on JA2 engine is just adorable. You just can't hate person like that.

Just looked up the best weapon in bg2 and first result was her blog. Pretty legendary shit. That woman has some SEO going on.
Nice try Lilura.
I thought that was a put-down. Her blog really does come up top of the search results for any question about the games she covers though. It's just because she puts EVERYTHING in there. I don't know why she has to repeat "cRPG" so much, I wasn't even searching for that and it still comes up #1.

JA2 isn't a cRPG though....

Awful quick with the fake news rating, LizardWizard... or should I say Dragon Lady LizardWizard?

JA2 and XCOM were phenomenal turnbased tactics games, but you have a lot of nerve calling them "THE BEST cRPGs" to the exclusion of non-isometrics with vastly superior class-and-stat-based progression, from the Wizardry series to Gothic and even Bloodlines which is certainly no less of a cRPG than your precious Arcanum and Fallout. And have you ever heard of Jeff Vogel?

The blame is on rusty_shackleford, who hates us and doesn't want us to have nice things. Lilura was so mad about something he did she spent an entire blogpost on him.
She says herself in that post she made that she did not leave because of him https://rpgcodex.net/forums/threads...odexian-obsession.128767/page-60#post-7245970

Proves it wasn't my suggestion of a Codex gangbang with her then.

Which suggests she was up for it.
That sausage party would definitely be a true Codexian experience.

"She" lol

Lilura is lying AGAIN.

The native resolution was doubled from Warcraft 1's 320x240 QVGA to 640x480 VGA in Warcraft 2, thereby granting more breathing space for the UI and playing field. As an aside, upping the resolution from QVGA to VGA constitutes a much greater improvement to 2D games than upping from VGA to SVGA and beyond.
this part is so retarded it is not even funny
yes lilura, going from 320x200 to 640x480 was "much greater improvement" than going from 640x480 to 1280x1024 and higher
He was right, you know.

Yes. 640x480 is God's Resolution and everything above that was a mistake.

In all seriousness, SVGA brought diminishing returns and killed pixel art. Many studios attempted 3D or high-res 2D on a low-res budget and the results looked like plastic. AAA graphics whores ramped up their art budgets and created Hollywood spectacles. Then the artists took over and injected their gay into the game industry.

It's a good blog and very influential on me as a developer. Sometimes the author comes across as too arrogant/preachy like she doesn't understand that people can have different equally valid opinions about games. But I align with most of her personal RPG preferences.

800x600 and 1024x768 are fine, plenty of good pixel art at those dimensions. The main thing is CRT dying off really screws older games or resolution switching in general. In CRT era, any game could look good and look as it was supposed to on any monitor. After LCD take over, you end up with tons of scaling issues because of native res and having to design around a ton of native resolutions. You see this crop up all the time in modern day games where the UI has to be scaled to different resolutions from 1080P to 4K and it never looks quite right. If we still had full resolution switching without the LCD problem of "native resolution", that wouldn't be such an issue.

Once games got to 800x600 and 1024x768 they moved from pixel art to prerendered 3D.

Yeah, the best option is scaling up to the nearest integer multiple that fits within the LCD's native resolution, maybe with linear or cubic interpolation. DOSBOX and MAME have options for that but it should be automatic. Windows and WINE should do it too. And they should do it in fullscreen mode with the viewport centered, not just windowed.

Why is it impossible to browse xir blog in chronological order

You ever seen that episode of Star Trek where they beam down to the library and they're confused and there's that weird dude Atoz there? That was loosely based on Lilura.

Saying Wizardry 8 has aged poorly and is "unplayable" simply because of the camera radiates the same energy as that guy critisizing the PSX Final Fantasy games simply because they have no voice acting. Actually come to think of it that sounds like something she would say, anyway I guess this is how resident evil fans whenever younger folks crap on fixed camera angles.

It's especially retarded because Wizardry 8's camera is relatively modern and works perfectly fine. It's not like NWN or Resident Evil we're talking about here. Honestly, Wiz 8 in general is a very modern game that straddles that line between older games and newer ones, where everything in it that isn't game design I'd argue is pretty forward looking.

I'm just messing, referencing the other person who was cracking Denuvo games. Voksi sadly got visited by the police and isn't allowed on the internet anymore.
Yeah I recall. Well if they are russian or at least live there, they should be more protected from Denuvo corp.
