This video shows what is wrong with the new MP. There are parts which take place in New York city at night, the snow is falling, and it really has that MP2 feeling. But than the Brazilian part comes, during daytime, Max is bald, he is wearing a stupid shirt. It doesn't feel right. The animation will be great, we get that, but the problem is not on the technical level. The design looks like a generic popamole shooter with slo-mo.

Yeah, the day-time scenes really fuck it up.

During that video Pete Hines repeats immersive and cinematic for 100 times

The fuck they did to MP? Instead of a good John Woo shooter it's now some piece of shit with cover and Max running in slo-mo under enemy bullets for an eternity instead of 5 seconds it's originally worked for

And totally shat all over the original atmosphere too

Even fucking Call of Duty-like special forces are there

Wanna bet it has health-regen and slo-mo-regen?

Though, in fairness Blobert, while MP was prevously a third person shooter insofar as you could seem him in front of the camera, he played a LOT more like a first-person shooter, than the trappings that have come to be accepted as normal for third person shooters today:
- originally he was run+gun rather than cover (hence the need for the few seconds of bullet-time - there was no 'I'll duck behind cover and get my breath/health back', it was 'hit slow-mo and use that to take a few guys out and buy space to recover'.
- you had relative freedom of movement, rather than being blocked because a one foot pipe was in your way;
- set pieces had a 'first person' style to them, rather than a cover-shoot style - I'm thinking stuff like jumping down through the skylight, bullet-time and slaughtering everyone before they had time to know what the fuck happened to them.

The TPP had a rather different angle to modern TPP, and played more like a FPS that just happened to have the camera positioned behind the character,

No Max Payne was a third person shooter through and through, it never felt like a first person one.

Why do you associate TPS with popamole?

Yeah it does have health-regen, it's pretty evident in that video. But what's your point regarding slow-mo regen? MP2 has that too. Actually, I use difficulty mod with it, because of how piss easy it is.

Rockstars goal with Max Payne 3 was to use technical design innovations to create an immersive and story-driven action-shooter, in which there is an intensely cinematic quality to gameplay as well as cutscenes!

MAJESTIC!

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but didn't the slo-mo regen by killing people? You couldn't regen slo mo by just standing still.

Health regenerated only if you had less than ~10%. I think it was the same for slow-mo or no slow-mo regen at all. I've played the first MP recently and I don't remember slow-mo regenerating at all.

That's in first Max Payne. In second it regenerates by itself.

I don't remember health regenerating but if it's only a small amount that's possible I just didn't notice it. I knew the game would check if you had trouble at some sections and make the enemies drop more painkillers if you reloaded too often.

So what if consolized MP2 had it? If a game is old enough - dumbing down becomes ok?

So how come you didn't bitch about MP2 until now? And.. "consolized MP2"?? That is some fun shit to hear, now please do tell how is it consolized as compared to MP1, seeing as how they played and controlled pretty much identically except for the slow-mo regen.

MP2 was better than the first MP in every aspect. Absolutely nothing "consolized" or dumbed-down about it whatsoever. Slow-mo regeneration was pretty much completely irrelevant because you'd have to be a total faggot to actually wait for it to regenerate and the game never encouraged you to do that either. It was something that first appeared in a bunch of mods for the first Max Payne and it worked perfectly well in them.

Also, if you really want to go down this route, you could argue that slow-motion is a "consolized" feature in itself.

Well not quite because often it would regen just enough between encounters to get an easy headshot as soon as you meet another enemie and regen a lot more of it. It became pretty easy to spend most of the combat in bullet time mode if you knew what you were doing. But yeah, it's still a fucking great game that I happily replay alongside MP1 every other year.

True. What I meant to say was that it didn't really affect the way you played the game. For example, having health regeneration means that you'll be sitting behind a box until you're at full health, which has a great impact on gameplay. On the other hand, the bullet time regeneration was just kind of there and you didn't really even need to think about it. Or at least I didn't.

I guess having more bullet time was also balanced out by removing some of the exploits that were present in the first game. You were no longer immortal while shootdodging and bullets could hit you when you were rolling on the ground. In MP2 you spent a lot more time standing up than jumping all over the place whereas MP was more about the latter. I played the first MP to death but still found MP2 really refreshing.

Because it still isn't shit? But at the same time I mention only MP1 when talking about best shootah eva.

MP2 was slower when it comes to action, enemies were less dangerous and weren't overflowing you with bullets like in MP1 plus they included the play-as-Mona part where you just pick off enemies with a sniper rifle from a static position which is extremely popular in console shooters for obvious reasons

Of course it was still good because it still was Max Payne. But that doesn't mean dumbing down should be forgiven in this game when bitching about it in another.

Bullshit. Bullets were still hitting you in slo-mo just as well as ever. Try jumping in front of a shotgun and see Max almost insta-die in slo-mo
