The corpse of Wizardry is being raped, but not by Ubisoft. A picture is worth a thousand words:

MY EYES!!

On topic:
I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes of this Ubisoft MMX talk. No, I don't think we'll get a good game out of it, but the combination of modern AAA publisher touch and classic CRPG franchise can only lead to something really GLORIOUS.

In a trainwreck kind of way, at least.

I know about Wizardry Online, I played a bit of it few weeks ago. It's a boring/instanced grindfest, but at least that's in line with what the Japanese Wizardry games are, and it has been out for a while (years) in Desudesuland. It didn't try to appeal to the western market, but SOE is full of jews that saw that having 2 servers for "the rest of the world" would give them more moneys than not having them as soon as a couple of prepubescent players grabbed their parents' credit cards. Since it's F2P they can just ignore all the customer support and all that.

Anyway, Wizardry Online was pretty much what the Japanese Wizardry players wanted from a Wizardry game. M&M X, however, won't be what Aryan M&M players wanted.

VI was a much more complete and polished product, with a lot more content and a much bigger world.
It also significantly cut back on classes, only allowed you to play as a human, and had annoying respawning enemies and a real-time/turn-based mess.

Plus terrible 3D graphics. :P

Graphics were fine. Nothing earth-shattering but serviceable. M&M IX looks much worse than VI-VIII, featuring some of the ugliest npc design in history.

Funny, those jap-rape Wizardries are more authentic RPGs than 95% of the crap released here.

So I just took a look at the official Might & Magic Facebook page, and they seem to have started something like a M&M series retrospective just a few days ago:

Can't be a coincidence either. The hype machine is about to start.

WTF is an Arcade RPG this Luc Patenaude dude is talking about? He got me intrested in that :troll:

A well reasoned quote by a backer of Torment on the KS page says it all:

Might and magic was a garbage franchise that I'd rather see stay dead. Plus, why would you want that when you already have Skyrim and Oblivion? Those games are copies the exact elements of M&M except they do it better.

Onya 'Fred'. :salute:

I think he means Gauntlet and it's clones. Retarded as fuck of course, but fuck, the alternative of him being totally out of his mind like the cheese eating surrender monkey that he is, is also a possibility.

You should leave this kind of trolling to Andharia. He knows how to pull it off.

Also, Gariott lies in this video. He says Ultima is the longest running rpg series in video game format.

That's a Lie.

That award belongs to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest

He is not French. He is most likely retarded though.

I always loved M&M 6-7-8 (yes, even 8), but never could get into The Elder Scrolls series. I find them boring. Despite of the 2 series being similar type of RPGs, which use similar elements. The atmosphere, the music is much better in M&M, and even the places you could visit are more interesting. Oh, and TES always had twitch based banal shit combat system. Also I never liked the character development system of TES, where you had to use a skill-weapon-whatever to improve it. I know that it makes sense, but I like the more traditional approach. Level up>gain skillpoint>use SP to improve skill. Like in M&M.

I totaly agree. TES is much more about LARPing in a huge world with randomly generated quests and dungeons than M&M.

He's not trolling , The japanese wizardry are 100% faithfull to the early wizardries system(1-5), turn based combat, grinding and huge dungeons with traps and riddles, sometimes you even have to hand draw your maps . Its probably a bit too oldschool for most players here, (yes i am serious) . The only real difference is the art style wich i find quite tolerable in most iterations , and sometime gorgeous.

Id kill to have that translated, sadly we only get the mainstream stuff those games are considered too sophisticated for the western audience and they are probably right.
Thats the perfect game for long boring hours in the train :

Ah, ok! These arcade games are fine, but he really put a new level on that apples vs oranges thing

Yup, it's a fucking shame there's no translation for the DS Wizardries, the ones for PS2 and PS3 are pretty cool, but having such a game on a handheld is heaven (Etrian Odyssey and Dark Spire:love:).

Oh, come on. The Final in "Final Fantasy" is, as far as I know, a homage to Ultima, from where Square drew inspiration. And the first Ultima game predates Dragon Quest by 5 years.

Well, maybe it is a taste thing, but while I don't dislike the early Wizardries, I think games that came later have them beaten in every area. Wizardry 6, for example, has all of these things, but also has a much better exploration element and a much more fun class system. An exception to this, though, would be Wizardry 4. Are there Japanese games that really emulate it faithfully? Now that would be something worth stomaching anime graphics for.

I misinterpreted FF and DQ as the "series with most titles"
