He is not French. He is most likely retarded though.

Patenaude is a Quebecois name, so yes he is French.

There is no chance of any sort of incline from Ubisoft.

What is a 'blobber'? This thread is the first time I have heard the term.

Party-based first person RPG where your party moves through the world as one unit, like an amorphous "blob".

See: Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry, Might and Magic, and others.

In before those M&M fan projects get C&D'd.

This whole thing is a very terrifying prospect.

They can only C&D people that use the name Might & Magic. Also they gave Legend of Erthia written permission to use their art assets. All isn't so bad.

Other than that I'm curious to see where they will take this. Older nostalgics of the series (VI-VIII mostly) are too small a crowd to bank on for a full blown AAA title and reproducing such games for costs that can turn a profit doesn't sound like the type of risk large publishers would be into.

Of course there's always the chance that the right guy got the right promotion and happens to be a smooth talker that baited management into it. That could actually turn out well.

The thing is, we know it's going to be shit. UBISoft doesn't make classic cRPG's. And they certainly are not going to target the prime demographic of this (the old M&M fans). It will be dumbed down popamole console shit.

Unless one person at UBISoft was actually smart and said "You know what? With all these fucking successful Kickstarter cRPG projects, why don't we do one with a budget of say 4 or 5 Million? And have it targeted at the prime demographic, all of the old fans?" But the share holders would have probably fired him on the spot.

It's aggravating having to wait until the 22nd to find out it will just be crap console shovelware. :/

So, overall impression is that Ubisoft will release something like

Might & Magic X: Far Assassin's Cell: It's not Skyrim ?

You seem to be completely unfamiliar with the Heroes of Might and Magic series. They may have taken a turn for the mediocre/shit, but they've remained PC exclusive and have kept the same gameplay style (turn based strategy with progression mechanics).

I am not a fan of the HoMM series (I do however own II and III and played them). I don't know what the general consensus was on the new UBISoft ones.

I dunno if it's the general consensus, but most people seem to think V was an improved III but bogged down by bad engine, piss-poor AI and shitty graphic style, while VI is unquestionably pure shite.

The most probable is an Oblivion clone with edgy character designs smoldering in rage reminiscent of Crusaders, done in Ubisoft's Montreal sweat shop on the St Laurent street where they will put a 200 people team on this because of the low Quebec salaries and insane government subsidies. There was a failed attempt to do that a few years ago.

Watch for a story full of emotional engagement as well. There was a feature on the verge about "Alice", the cellar studio in the St Laurent st. building where the staffers are tasked with crafting emotional engagement for all Ubi Soft games.

None of these guys have the sensitivities, creativity and intelligence of JVC. A MM game without him simply is not MM, nor will it ever be.

This. Except for graphic style of V. It was meh. But I like what they did with factions.

Yeah, 5th one is generally an OK game and gets a bit better with XP packs but they dropped the ball in 6th game. Only good part of new Heroes game was giving some active skills to might heroes so they are no longer stat sticks.
Everything else sucks about that one... especially dropping that beautiful city screens which were one of the trademarks of Heroes series(best ones in 5th game IMHO), they get some after launch with a patch but still medicore...

For the sake of accuracy - Heroes V was not a good game, its standalone expansion, Tribes of the East, was.

If that were true, you wouldn't be able to visit any major Jap dev HQ without tripping over scores of dead employees.

who gives a shit about this? the only good one was world of xeen, and we're not getting that.

World of Xeen was two games combined, so the proper comment would be that the only two good ones...

Of course, such a statement is nonsense. The older titles were magnificent, the 3DO era had their own charm. After that, it begins to get debatable.

The 3DO ones are the only rpgs that IMO managed to smoothly and properly execute both turn based and real time in the same game.

Supposedly they're going to release information about this tomorrow. It's definitely Might & Magic X unless they're being trolls.
