I for one will wholeheartedly support a new M&M MMO!

(Munches from bag of Doritos Ubisoft supplied me with.)

Let's just settle that everything after 5 was progressively worse.
8 was better than 6 or 7 ; )

I actually bought 7 on GoG last night, played through the whole starting island and wondered how I was able to stomach this when I was a kid. The difference in quality between 1-5 and 6-8 is unbelievable. It's a totally different series.

What OS did you play it on? Isn't windows 95/98 required? That's one reason I've almost never tried to replay MM6/7/8. It's pretty much the only reason I would need Win98.

I have 1-8 from GOG as well and they work fine with Windows 7 x64. 1-5 use DOSBox, and for 6-8 I just need to disable my crossfire setup (otherwise there's an extreme flickering) and the games run smooth.

It ran fine, I just thought the game wasn't that great. I didn't think it was that great as a kid (World of Xeen's where it's at) but I didn't remember it being this tedious, ugly and repetitive. I don't care how much content a game has when it's all the same and when it's not too great to begin with.

That said, I'm morbidly curious about this game. I have absolutely no expectations, I just want to see what they do with it.

Maybe it will have Arcomage. ;_;

So, me and the other desigers were discussing how to bring Acromage to the 21st century when Jim's computer finished loading and opened on his initial webpage; armorgames. That is when I went "Of course, Tower Defense!".

To be fair, if they just used the name to promote a completely different type of game (mmo or facebook social game or cover based shooter) it would probably became a laughing stock promptly and tanked hard which is a good thing.

If they go down the "Guize we totally loved the previous games, we will revive the shit out of them, we have guys who totally loved the previous games working on a totally honest sequel" route however... Let's just say I'm getting strong Fallout 3 vibes out of this, complete with 10/10 goty reviews, "The way M&M always meant to be played" and throngs of 17yo retards who are suddenly hardcore M&M fans.

Hım interesting news, i wonder if they can even make a better game then IX. The way they handled Heroes series left a sour taste and i have below zero expectations about this one.

now get in before 1 man army FPS and cinematic "gameplay"!

The ultimate :troll: would be if they made it into single character, dialogue-heavy isometric crpg with exclusively pre-set combat encounters.

Before the forum change, World of Xeen was winning the poll in the Best Might and Magic thread. Clearly the Codex has :declined: even further since 2011.

The decline had already started with VII, New World Computing had contractual obligations with 3DO that forced them to drastically shorten their development cycles, and it shows. VI was a much more complete and polished product, with a lot more content and a much bigger world.
I for one like to judge games on their merits, and not "big evol corporation" backstories people who spend more time on boards than actually playing games like to be so obessed about. And VII was simply just fine and in some ways a much more accomplished and polished game than VI : arcomage, more racial and class options, better fleshed out skill system, a storyline that actually seemed to go somewhere, better outdoor environments, even some limited c&c. The world wasn't all that much smaller either, it's basically just the megadungeons that are mostly absent in VII. Of course they already had the engine up and running at that time and they used the same basic mechanics as in VI so they didn't need the same long development cycle. VII wasn't exactly next-gen compared to VI but a slightly better M&M is still a better M&M.

VIII on the other hand took it too far and did feel kinda rushed and uninspired. Though it's still one of those "good for what it is" deals. IX is one of the worst rpg experiences ever, I doubt it's possible to make a worse game in X even if they tried.

I've played MM6 (GOG version) and MM7 (TPB version) on Windows 7 x64. MM6 worked fine, I had to disable one monitor and set the desktop colour depth to 16-bit for MM7 - after which it also worked fine. :)

I really don't want to troll but the Wizardry series outperformed Might&Magic at any time. I can remember how wrong the perspective in M&M games was, so much that I've got a headache from it.

No part of the M&M series ever reached a 'Bane of Cosmic Forge' or 'Crusaders of the Dark Savant'.

The corpse of Wizardry is being raped, but not by Ubisoft. A picture is worth a thousand words:

Some of the Jap Wizardries are much better than anything our western non-child-abusing developers regurgitated in the last decade. Yes, aesthetic wise it's a rape, but at least as a whole it's been... tasteful?
