Any good stream showing wizard or necromancer gameplay? I wanna check it.

They ended up opening more servers due to high pop. It's lagging pretty hard now. Took forever to memorize my bard songs and get them on the hotbar. Server 2 is down as of right now. Server 3 has around 400 people on it. Lag is pretty bad, but this is to be expected.

It's difficult to get anything done but the music sure is nice. I find it cool to be logged in to the actual game after all this time following its development. Pretty excited overall.

I can't do shit due to the high number of players in a single zone, but I can tell that this is almost definitely the game I've been looking for since EQ went to shit with the Luclin expansion.

One thing that I wanna to see is not less group focus than EQ, in fact I had much more fun in EQ playing in group. I wanna see more options not present in original EQ. For eg, in p99, necromancers go from skeleton -> red skeleton -> emissary of thule. Would be great if necromancers could chose between a Zombie, better for tanking, a specter, better for DPSing or a skeleton a in between.

But I was looking a stream and the servers are extremely crowded

One last question. Considering that the game runs in Unity, will run fine in Linux + Proton?

That ended up being quite a bit of fun. Had a friend join in. He rolled a Shadowknight and I was a Shaman. The SK area was easy to find. Finding the Shaman guild proved to be a tad bit more difficult. Had to ask a couple of guards along the way to make sure I was going in the right direciton. Very similar to how EQ handled talking to NPC's and doing quests. We headed back to the SK class area to fight some skeletons. I needed bone chips for my class starter questline and he needed femurs for hi. There were these nasty fire beetles that would get us running back to the guards. My Minor Heal proved useful. By the time we were getting really settled in was around the time the servers were due to shutdown. Overall, we both had a great time. It brought back a lot of the very early days of EQ feels. Something I remember as one of my favorite gaming experiences and something my friend never got to experience. I think the potential is there for a really fun game that follows in the spirit of EQ.

EQ2 had that back when the game was fun many years ago. I remember summoning different necromancer pets depending on the type of content I was doing. I love that idea.

I am not sure. I don't use Linux for gaming. The download once you fire up the game launcher is very small though. Did anyone here play on Linux?

Seems like they did a amazing thing. The stats numbers are much smaller here than in EQ.

I prefer smaller numbers. They could also make stat increases not only from gear. For eg, after reading X different books, you get a permanent point of INT, after striking Y number of times with a very heavy weapon, +1 STR and so on.

I was watching this stream

It is nice and making progress but I still can't get excited. It's primitive like EQ pre alpha. EQ was pretty fleshed out by release and full of content and great world design and dungeons. It's a lot to live up to...

But also there was a game after that made by most of the same people which improved a lot of things. Like letting healers be part of the fighting and their attacks trigger heals on the group. And having a 'defensive' target so you can fight one thing and your heals land on someone else. More reactive things in combat too like Counterspells, interactive environment that drains your mana or teaches you spells, etc. Less inflation. Lots of things.. Much nicer graphics too.

As much as I liked EQ I wouldn't go near a cute indie remake.

Extremely rudimentary and early but does have that old EQ SOVL alreaady.

Would love to see this get more funding.

But I can just hear some suit already, "Yeah, about that whole middle-east motif you got going in current year...".

Whatever. It won't be even half as good as Vanguard was almost 16 years ago. I bet the 2 devs never even played that or learned anything from it.

You sound bound and determined to not like this game, which is pretty retarded. Maybe this stuff Shawn said will help ease your mind?

I think it's retarded to try to remake a weird 24 year old game that only succeeded because it had a dream team working on it and was at the right place and right time. But what is most retarded is not acknowledging that EQ already got completely improved and remade by most of the original team with more than 20 million dollars of Microsoft's money. And it just gets forgotten and ignored. This is like someone trying to make a horse and cart in the age of cars.

It's not a remake of EQ you fucking retard. Did you not read what I posted? Do you think the original EQ team are the only people who can make a good MMO? Also retarded.

"It's not a remake of EQ" lol... It looks more like a remake of EQ's 1 zone tutorial. EQ Alpha puts it to shame and probably always will. And they have experience of about 5 MMOs on the team, none of them were the most important one.

Emojies from retards who don't even know what I'm talking about. Also, why are you not playing this? It's the same only a year or two ahead:

Because I've never heard of it. Why haven't you made a thread on it and promoted it here?

anvi, I think you are a bro and you have great EQ related posts, which is why I didn't give you a negative reacc on your last post, but you really need to understand that you are being unreasonably butthurt and childish about MnM. Maybe let them actually make it through a few milestones before you start being aggressive and talking massive shit about it? They haven't even made it to the vertical slice stage yet and you're comparing it to EQ's alpha and saying it's shit in comparison. They are nowhere near alpha at this point. You've also made some other points that I could easily counter, but it seems pointless to engage you on this topic since you've already made up your mind, which is retarded.

I haven't even come close to aggressively talking shit about it, I started by saying, "it is nice and is making progress" I just said I wasn't excited. You can't even read what I'm typing with all those tears in your eyes. You also have no idea what I'm even posting about the last few replies, none of you retards do. I think you are all retarded or shills, or both.

So, it's primitive and basic, and yet somehow, the performance is horrific as even the basic test population is melting a 2023 server, whereas Evercrap was able to host larger populations on a 1999 server.

I went back and reread your previous posts and it seems that I'm actually the one who is in the wrong here. For some reason they sounded way more butthurt and aggressive at the time. My bad. I still think you're being unreasonably negative about the game though.

When you said this
And they have experience of about 5 MMOs on the team, none of them were the most important one.
Were you talking about EQ? The guy who seems to be pretty much the lead did in fact work on EQ. Shawn was the main guy on Luclin (yes, I know that expansion was the start of decline for EQ, but his response to the complaints about it is so reasonable that I can't argue against him).

If you could give some actual complaints about the game mechanics or something for why you think it's going to be shit, that would be worth reading. Your complaints so far just sound like a mix of "it's not EQ" and "it's just a remake of EQ". I don't understand what you want from the game that they aren't doing or what you want from an MMO in general.

Also, what was the other game by the EQ team that you mentioned? I'm going to assume you don't mean Vanguard because that game was shit and I don't think it was funded by Microsoft. I find it hard to believe there was another MMO by the same team and I never heard about it.

So, it's primitive and basic, and yet somehow, the performance is horrific as even the basic test population is melting a 2023 server, whereas Evercrap was able to host larger populations on a 1999 server.
EQ would have taken a shit if it had as many people in one zone as MnM had. iirc EQ didn't do well with more than 300 people in a zone or 3000 total on a server.

Yes, but EQ was running on a 1999 server, which has less computing power than your wireless router, let alone your shitty phone.

I was more responding to the part where you said EQ could host larger populations, which is most definitely not true. We had around 800 people in Night Harbor at one point and the server didn't crash. That's impressive. Lag got better after they tweaked some things and overall it was pretty good for a first time trial run of custom net code that had never been tested with more than 70 people before.
