Most deranged Codex hatedoms

What's Baldurs Gate about Baldurs Gate 3?
It actually features Baldur's Gate, unlike BG2?

Strawman, Baldur's Gate was always the least essential component of Baldur's Gate
BG1 was about solving the iron crisis, BG2 was about munchkins jerking off to a munchkin game years before shitfinder decided to make BG2 clones
The only thing BG1 is missing from the munchkinfest in BG2 is kits. Otherwise, Gnome Fighter/Thief is still the best build in BG1 and Gnome Fighter/Mage or Thief/Mage are the best in BG2 and the kits/dual-classing are nothing compared to them (they had to exclude F/T/M from BG2 because there would be no reason to play anything else).

Sometimes lots of Codexers will appear to vocally hate on a particular game, series or studio. And sometimes other people might think that hate is inexplicable and self-destructive. It might be anti-Larianism, anti-Owlcatism or perhaps a reflexive mistrust of indie titles in general.

Which Codex hatedom do you think is the most deranged? What games or developers do you think Codexers should show more appreciation towards?
All hatred is good.

Hatedoms are better than fandoms. Online fandoms are absolutely insufferable. Nothing will ruin your love of something more than the fans of said thing.

One thing to add. This was the last Obsidian game I purchased.
Deadfire was much better than the first one, and even the two expansions for the first one were already much better.

Yeah, vanilla PoE 1 was a disappointment for sure, but they did learn and improve. Maybe not quite enough (mage battles are not as good as in IE-games).

I don't understand the revulsion for RTwP.

X-Com Apocalpyse took quite a bit of time to add that mode in 1997. The game was fantastic, but some unrealized yet planned features didn't make the cut at launch. Many folks thought the RT mode was easier than the TB mode, so it became easy to say that some invisible hand of stupid players was responsible for the game being worse than it could have been.
In 2001 Fallout Tactics was released with a *ton* of local drama. Most of the big names here were associated in some part with the mistrust and feuding. Again, a portion of that aggravation was the addition of a real time with pause feature. It wasn't widely known at the time how last minute that addition was, but it was a hot button issue and every brainlet who wanted to be on the right side of the mob used real time as their rallying cry, rather than properly articulating their issues with the released product.
Fast forward 20 years and some idiots think the issue was ever the mechanic, and falsely believe they have historical backing for their muppet brained thinking.

Sometimes it feels that some people like to bunch up game development components together, add everything up and give the project either "it's good", "it's a mediocre waste of time" or "it's shit". Most of the time going for "it's shit".

If you pay attention to game development, however, a lot of the time there can be:

  1. a good level designer
  2. a good artist
  3. a good sound director
  4. a good mechanics designer
  5. simply a good director (<- probably the most rare)
and the list goes on.

It feels reductive to love the complexity of RPGs, but then when asked what is one, to try to subsume it's components into a 5 word-sentence. In this case, obviously cynics will always win: most RPGs will fall short when viewed with that lens, so... "everything is shit, let's hate everything".

* * *

As an example: In MOTB, after just 2 minutes trying to find Gannayev's mother in that fucking maze, you go nuts listening to her constant looping dribbles. Until you realize it's intentional. She is mad. Because she is a creature that relishes dreams, which has not been able to sleep in decades.

Is that WHOLE game good? Probably not. Is that directing choice in that particular map good? Undoubtedly.

NOTE: My example was just an example. If this spawns 10 pages of autism on MOTB, I'm going to flip my shit. Let's not be retarded. <3

Hate keeps a man alive. It gives him strength.

It also makes him stupid, but what are you gonna do

Probably the hate on the Firaxis X-Coms, to me. I can't see them as dumbed down per say, as their design are very calculated and the difficulty can be considerable, as long as you play them ironman of course.

If you get in a crpg player that reloads his save every time he gets a bad roll, as we all know and love them, then of course he'll think these games are boring. Eventually he'll think all games are boring, too... then he'll go on about how much you're all a bunch of "fucking autistic nerds" who "can't get laid" and next thing you know, he's registered for a sexual offense. You can't escape your destiny
