Athereon: Advent I

I didn't see it listed anywhere here, but it has like, 31 followers according to steamdb and has had a whopping 2 lifetime players.

It has a demo.

It's...something for sure. I think I like it, but I have shitty fucktard tastes.

I want to add to this weird game that the combat is slow as hell.

you start out pretty far from the enemy

8atUfcI.png

the guy out alone has triple the move range of everyone else (assuming because slayer class whatever that is)

a 33fps gif of combat movement so you see what the fuck I mean by motherfucking slow combat

combat speed @ 33fps

post combat stats

obVe7cR.png

tough encounter, orcs hit hard on non tank, xp divvied by damage done it would seem

and you'd better read the manual or you're gonna have a shitty time. I mean, you probably will anyways.

Not quite obscure, you have a big Thread on F95 zone, with many people playing, praising your game and you are happily chatting with them all. Well i suppose you must be reading it quite like this:
7con7v.jpg

I’m pretty active here too. I like F95, but they’re kinda stupid (something they freely admit).

If I’m being totally honest, I probably should spend more of my time on F95 since it’s a bigger forum and better for funneling prospective customers for my game. It may surprise you, but the codex is not a great place to do grassroots forum marketing.

But I like the codex. I semi-lurked here a few years before joining with an "official account" so I’m more aware of the codex’s… quirks than other devs who showed up and promptly got themselves annihilated by grognards here, or just left because they don’t want to be associated with the ‘dex.

I’m here because I want to build a good RPG, maybe even a great one, and the codex’s standards for a RPG are the highest (or reputed to be, but standards slip all the time).

So, I’m here to further hone the craft. I'm in it for the art. Gamedev is absolutely horrible for making money, and I left a well-paying career for a complete shot in the dark, so if I'm not in dev for the art, I'm not sure why I'm in it at all (stupidity, probably).

But all that’s just talk. And success is the greatest predictor of future success. So I’ll add that I moved about 25,000 copies of Memoirs. Sold. Not including crowdfunding copies (which are… kind of also sold) and those given away.

I want to set new standards for the genre by showing them what just one man can do, with porn, and using RPGMaker of all things.

It’s laughable and all kind of a giant troll move. But I’m super excited.

I know the codex is irrelevant and no one bothers with it, future is youtube , but do you really think you'll get customers on F95 ? No one is buying anything there, there's 4 big download link adress or more for every games.

Oh yeah, everytime someone updates my thread on F95, I notice a significant uptick in sales. It's a pirate site, but they don't mind paying to support games they like, which is why most major adult devs maintain a presence there.

It's also a good place to do marketing and spread word of mouth.

But, since I have very little interest in most sex games, I don't really hang out there as much.

Now that my game is finished, my new goal is actually to play games.

"Obscure Indie" thread seems a good place to start with :D

I will read the previous posts, let me know if you have recommendations!

I swear... one day I might play that to see how much more insane it will make me.

Maybe... i mean I am rather anti-steam even if I have nearly 200 games. (194.. I can't pop that 200 cheery cherry)

Just found out about the "The Depths of Tolagal" today. A simple and unpretentious, well designed, mostly deterministic tactical (AP based) roguelike from 2014.
It's quite enjoyable, kind of plays like a shallower and more melee-oriented DoomRL.

You mean this game? https://store.steampowered.com/app/237550/Realms_of_Arkania_Blade_of_Destiny

By the way, I just discovered Ambermoon.net (not sure if it's obscure nor if it's on this forum) What a masterpiece! I have never heard of this game before, and it seems strange because it's fantastic, and it's exactly the kind of game I love!
It's not known because its an amiga game, few codexers are old enough to remember that era. Keep teling it, but that's where the best gaming was , pc got only better in 1992, everything before is on amiga, atari then 80s on C64. You probably missed a few titles like black crypt, fate gates of dawn, and a few more i forgot.
It's a good idea to browse https://www.lemonamiga.com/ and https://www.lemon64.com/
