Day 4:
Making some notes for myself. I'm rich now, loot whoring paid off. But had to stop looting everything, not efficient in this game. The weight system is pretty hardcore, even potions are heavy. I had 30 ish and it left me no room to buy rations. I had to slim down. Now I only loot light valuable stuff. Got some stuff that say sell to an artificer or something, I hope he exists somewhere and it doesn't just mean a merchant because I've been holding on to them for a while. Also got some fancy gear components that need combining.
Made level 3 on everyone, whooping ass now. I bought a dex belt which made a big difference with my sorcerer landing his spells. Just need another one for my wiz. Also I only just learned how to select spells in the book for each level. Got a mini fireball which is disappointing because you can't target it on the ground, it has to target a creature, but hits the area so if the creature is attacking the tank, it likely burns the tank too. Other spells are becoming good now though, don't need to just bow everything. Magic missile has a punch, burning hands is really strong and can be cast many times. Get the right angle and it hits every enemy and hurts.
I searched 80% of the big region, I need to finish the caves and confront the little spy shit again. Then go back outside and kill a wolf who gave me trouble at level 3. And also there is a camp in the NW with free food for one rest, but a ghost baddie spawns and he whooped me too. I wanna go back at level 4 and beat them up.
Love this game. Proper RPG. Strange to see in this day and age. I liked DoS1 (and 2 somewhat) but it is more of an RPG-lite with actiony silly combat. This is the real deal. As much as I enjoyed stuff like KOTC, nothing really beats a proper bigger budget RPG with nice music and spell effects and stuff. Hope it does well enough to get expansions and sequels and competitors.
Levelling up is glorious. Finally getting my characters to work more how I want them. I feel held back by the ability point limit. For example I have to spread my points evenly between lore, athletics, etc. I wanna just pump one up really high on each character but it doesn't wanna let me. I can dig it. I should try to make my cleric start using a crossbow. I have 2 tanks and 3 ranged people, if she attacks too she gets messed up so I keep having to press H on her and she twiddles her thumbs. Sometimes I let her fight but she can use a bow that would be something.
My main character jackass keeps saying, "a rest is in order". Even after just resting.
The shield wall with 2 tanks is nice. Also my better equipped tank (Valerie) is great. I had a fight where my whole party got knocked out, and she finished fighting several enemies by herself on 3hp.
