Custom NPCs are priced by your level so get em early or not at all
Yeah, something is definitely crazy about that. At lvl 5, they're 12500gp. At lvl 1 or 2, they're 500gp.

I don't even want to imagine how much it'll be at lvl ~10.
Formula seems to be 500 * n^2 where n is the PC level. Curious to know if delaying all level ups till Oleg's lets you recruit 4 level 1 characters for 2000gp instead of 1 level 2 character for 2000 even if your total experience means you could go ahead and level.

The price for making custom companions is ridiculous at higher level. I imagine they will nerf that in the future. There is really no reason to set it that high.

Alright, so, I just got Tristian and... uhm.. does he only have one Domain for anyone else? He only seems to have the Good domain.

Same in my game.

Question: I grabbed Harrim in the ancient tomb, but I wanted Jaethal. However, at the start of the fight, she didn’t actually join my party, she just jumped into battle and quickly died because I couldn’t level her up. Has anyone else had this issue? I didn’t want to waste my rez scroll so I reloaded and picked the dwarf.

They changed this with the last patch... the character doesn't join your party until after the battle. I'm not sure why they made the change, but... yeah.

Because I can't stand Valerie, I am currently using Jaethal as my tank, to take advantage of some of the bonuses of her being undead (immune to poison, fear, etc.) I am leveling her as a mix between fighter and inquisitor, and dumped the scythe to go sword and board. It's working better than I thought it would, but the lack of 'inflict <severity> wounds' potions will probably make it unviable in the long round as combats get harder.
I hope you're using "sword and board" colloquially, not actually using an actual sword, when you could've gone for a fucking sickle.

I have yet to find a sickle that fucks on command, but I'd probably give that to the poly couple, since I'm sure they'd be into it. :smug: (Yes, I'm using sword and board colloquially.)

Cael rules question... am thinking of making my PC an inquisitor as a ranged combatant/healer. Was looking at the Sacred Huntsmaster to get a pet as well. Curious though... is it worth it to splash into fighter (or ranger for 2 levels to get weapon styles) for better BAB, or straight inq?
The ecclesithuerge gives up a domain to let him switch between domains when he rests. If you want a ranged inquisitor with pets then be a follower of Erastil monster tactician and take the animal domain. At fifth level take the feat to boost your animal companion. Level per minute summons and a full animal companion is ridiculous. Oh, and your summons get your teamwork feats so take outflank.

I'm climbing back into the cockpit after ejecting years ago because this game is too damn good, and the Steam forum for it is too much of a shitshow to even bother with. This is so much better than PoE for an Infinity Engine knockoff it's ridiculous, and it even feels like an improvement to the IE games in some respects (The relatively common skill checks being a prime example). Speaking of the skill checks, god damn. You can actually fail them, too. It's not like Tyranny where within an hour or two of play you've got enough skills across your entire party to instantly succeed every check that comes up so you never fail at anything. Linzi can roll a 1 like the fucking retarded piece of shit she is and trigger that web trap and leave you with your cocks in hand for a few minutes until the duration runs out. And this isn't bringing up the quality of that opening dungeon or how many different ways you can fuck with/weaken the confrontation with the stag lord. I didn't even know you could poison his wine until a buddy told me long after the fact. Didn't show up for me because it's a hidden skill roll by the "DM" and only appears if you succeed.

The inflated stats on enemies are pretty fucky (Both in the absolutely broken range, and in the "Random shitty no-name generic bandit with 18 STR and class levels in barbarian" ways) but aren't unmanageable, and things being difficult is a whole hell of a lot better than just facerolling everything. Not only that, the C&C in some of the quests. Going after Tartuccio first or the bandits first changing the other quest being a quick and dirty example. Making time matter in a CRPG rather than tasking you with some dreadfully important Earth-shaking task and then letting you fuck off to go hunt a wumpus and play children's card games like a maniac. Really, really good shit.

can you recruit a level 1 character when you are 5th level for 2000? Or is the cost based on your current characters level?

Did you play the game?
She has fucking 38 AC at lvl4 with just 3 minor buffs. She also has 19 starting CON instead of 18 max possible with her other stats to compensate 15 CHA.
She also loses -2 attack penalty from shield at lvl 5.
Like, seriously, just look at this shit.

What's dumb is that my fighter has the same AC with waaaaay more damage. Being a pure tank doesn't win fights.
As I said, AC isn't everything. People who talk numbers like that tend to not know what the hell they are talking about.
Especially since high-level combat usually ends up with stuff that either does guaranteed damage or debuffs or just magic damage generally, none of which is really alleviated by AC. Kill fast or die

Jubilost, Linzi, Tristian, Eku, and Harrim should all have(or possibly have access to for non-clerics) the communal version by that point I think

L0L They really want you to use their created npcs. they do everything in their power to do so. Cost of hiring at 2nd level = 2500gp and at 3rd level = 4500gp. LMAO On top of that, unless you hire them as soon as you level they are mondo experience lower.
tongue.png

Also, they seem to have made certain battles 'too easy'. I completely destroyed treant bear. LMAO That said, it helps when you get a crit of 20+ damager on one hit.

Random bandits are more deadly. Still certain fights can still make you work.

Really hate corrupted saves. Happens way too often. I just spam save slots now to cover.

Overall, though, really good game. One of best DnD games created imo. Up there with NWN, BG series, and Gb games (for their era).

I love the half elf lady. Too bad about her stupid boyfriend. he needs to have an accident.

Not if you count the start new chapter screens :)
I assume we're supposed to go based on the source material when referring to chapters
http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Kingmaker_(adventure_path)

AFAIK they also added some original content too, no idea how much though

Then the entire game is one chapter:

Enter the Stolen Lands, a wilderness claimed by nobles, bandits, and beasts alike. Into this territory the fractious country of Brevoy sends its emissaries, tasking them with subduing the lawless folk and deadly creatures that have made it a realm of savagery and shame. Beyond the last rugged frontier stretches the home of voracious monsters, capricious fey, wily natives, and bandits who bow to the rule of a merciless lord none dare defy. Can the PCs survive the Stolen Lands, bring their dangers to heel, and lay the foundations of a new kingdom? Or will they just be one more fateful band, lost forever to the ravenous wilds?

huh?
the first chapter goes up to killing the stag lord
http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Stolen_Land
Rag-tag armies of mercenaries from the northern nation of Brevoy have turned their attention south to the region of the River Kingdoms called the Stolen Land, and hope to reclaim control of these lands to expand their power. Yet the dangerous denizens of the Stolen Land will not give up their lairs quietly. The heroes are one of four groups sent south to explore these wilderness realms and establish colonies, yet the dense woodlands and rugged hills of this region are far from safe. Will the heroes be able to wrest control of the realm from the monstrous bandit known only as the Stag Lord?

Skimming through the second book, props to owlcat for sticking so close to the source material.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
Restarted again. On the bright side, by the time I get to the endgame, hopefully the bugs will all be squashed.

This time, I'm running an eldritch archer (magus). I also bit the bullet and did the bandits at oleg without leveling, so that I could hire a cheap companion (lvl 1). The downside is my companion is basically always 2k xp behind everyone else. But it'll be nice to have a mystic theurge to fill all gaps in the party.
You definitely can. IMO, as someone using Jaethal as a tank in one run-through, the biggest problem is that in-combat healing is a lot easier/more convenient with potions than with spells or (better yet) a combination of the two.

Can you craft stuff in the game? If you can, perhaps you can craft potions of Inflict Wounds for Jaethal.

I am way behind most people due to serial restart-itus, but the only crafting I've heard about is special recipes via craftsmen in your capital. I don't know if that allows for potion making or not. Anyone else know?

I really don't recommend that your PC be a gimped caster of the Bard variety. The problem with those is that they tend to be masters of nothing. As the main character and the permanent fixture in the party from the beginning of the game, your toon is going to do a lot of the heavy lifting, whether it is as melee combatant or magic-user. As a comparison, my melee toon in BG has about 50% of the kills of the whole party, which includes Imoen, Viconia, Minsc, Dani-whatsherface and Neera.

I'd recommend a specialist of some sort, whether it is full caster or melee assault tank type. If you like pets, go Druid. High Wis, high Con and once you get to wildshape, use that to rape face and rip ass... err, I mean rip face and rape ass... That came out all wrong... :D

Anyone get through the Lonely Barrow dungeon? In the sub-level there's an energy field that when you approach tells you to go find the key at the shore of a lake between two rivers (or something like that). I figured it meant Lake Silverstep Village since it's exactly as previously described but I haven't been able to find anything there.

I like my Sacred Huntsmaster because I like having a pet and beating the shit out of people, but if you want a pet probably just make a ranger and accept you'll wait a few levels but be happier in the end. Or one of the other pet classes, I dunno, there's a barbarian one I think?

LoL the new memory leak is really bad after the patches. It takes like 5 minutes to quit the fucking game. Don't know what they did but it bugs down my PC pretty hard, the game still runs well but the loadings are becoming slower and slower. Before the patch it run a lot better,i even was alt tabing without a problem, now it is impossible.

Also all that quest rushing is really annoying at best, can't take breather and finish a few side quests....:decline:

Nope, Tristian specializes in Healing and Good domains.

EDIT: Maybe?
Just a thought about the Good Domain. In 3.5, it gives +1 caster level for all spells on the domain list, which seems rather pitiful. It is not. It is, in fact, one of the most powerful abilities in the list if you use it right. And to use it right, you only have to look at one spell. Just one: Holy Word. A Cleric 13/Heirophant 5 with the Good Domain has an automatic "I win" button that they can press. And the best part? It is all PHB and DMG stuff.

I'll leave you to figure it out in detail.

I really wanted to make a Madness Inquisitor, because their ability is great for melee combat (halves an enemy's saving throws, making them suddenly much easier to hit and control) but they didn't bother to code it properly. Ended up going with travel because it's suboptimal but at least I can run faster I guess

I'm level 7 and I can't afford to build a 6 man party using custom companions.

I only has around 25000 gold at the moment. Probably because I buy too much equipment and trinkets from the vendors.
